I've had Mario Kart 8 for nearly 2 years, I can't honestly believe they have rereleased the game on their new console, the first time they have ever not released a brand new Mario Kart for a new console, it just doesn't make me want to buy a Switch at all at this moment in time!!

Well its not just a basic re-release, they've added a whole host of Multiplayer options, it includes all the dlc from MK8 and fixed some of the framerate problems and an increase in resolution. I would bet my house that MK9 will be coming in the future. They just released this one to help fill the gaps when there is no other major releases.

Funny thing is we actually still own our Wii u AND Mario kart 8!! We having been playing the "3 year old" game for 3 years and love it still. Now we can trade in the Wii u copy or sell for a tenner to put towards this version. Can't wait to try out the new battle mode in our office with the other 3 or 4 switch owners who are getting this too! (Queue grumpy troll telling me im paying nintendo for a battle mode on a 3 year old game etc etc)

Unreleased?! Are you suggesting people shouldn't pre-order games? 94 on Metacritic and a reduced pricetag is incentive enough, clearly - especially for those unable to play it previously.

While MK8 Deluxe isn't a game for which this is particularly relevant, being a fairly known quantity at this point, in general it's fairly undeniable that 'pre-order culture' is detrimental to consumers as a whole. In the vast majority of cases, there won't be any issue over supply shortages, so unless there's a reduced price or a limited edition available, there's little benefit to consumers from pre-ordering, which bypasses the ability to look to reviewers for a gauge of a game's quality prior to purchase.

Lmao of course no one should pre order games. They're an unlimited digital commodity. They're not going to run out! Wait until release day, then buy it if reviews are good and users are happy. Too many games these days ship broken, and developers don't care because people like you will pre order them anyway.
