I know this topic is from a few months ago, but these torches are back in stock now and I bought one a couple of days ago. It charged up fine and the beam from it is great, but I've noticed the little green charge indicator light (underneath the rubber end cap) flickers on and off every 10 seconds or so even when the torch is switched off. The manual doesn't mention this and I'm just wondering if this is normal or a faulty torch?

I've not noticed as I always have the rubber cap on.
I will have a look tomorrow!

I'm now wondering if the green charge light flickering is a feature to indicate that the battery is fully or near fully charged?
Earlier I plugged my phone into the torch for about 20 minutes to check that it works as a power bank. It works fine. After disconnecting the phone I noticed the green light on the torch had stopped flickering. Then I recharged the torch (until the red light turned to green) and, guess what, the flickering started again!
The manual doesn't mention this, but perhaps the green light flickering is a quick way to check the torch is charged up? Has anyone noticed this, or perhaps my torch is faulty?

I tried a couple of standard 18650 cells in mine and it refused to work full stop - no operation and no charging. I've seen this type of battery in other rechargeable torches and they are available - they just cost around double what the torch cost to buy, I've seen them for sale on aliexpress and sold by a company called Klarus for use with their torches. Just search for custom 18650 - make sure they're protected cells if you buy them.

LED Lenser on the left LIDL torch on the right.
The Duracell Ultra batteries in the LED Lenser are not fresh but not that old.

Yeah I was hoping for the same to avoid buying a charger. Still as you say it's a pretty nice torch for £8!!
Just comparing it to my LED Lenser V2 (£35ish) which is ostensibly the same lumen output, and the beam from the LIDL is much better. The V2 is fairly old I presume LEDs fade with time, but the focus seems nicer and the colour temperature too.
Build quality reflects price but it's a bit of a bargain.. well it is for me because I don't have a car charger I can see that being used with other stuff, and the powerbank feature and charging from USB are all useful to me.
What I'm not keen on is the on/off button.. seems like you have to cycle through all the modes to switch off.

Bought one a week back - and was disappointed it didn't use a standard 18650 (was hoping to use it to charge them on holidays, save taking a special charger). Nevertheless it works well - bright torch and good for a top up charge to my phone. Went to my local LIDL to get another - sold out :disappointed:

Hi I'm new to 18650 batteries and ting.
To confirm you are saying that this torch won't charge other batteries? Presumably the torch will be disposable if the provided battery wear out?

Took it back, got a replacement and you're right, mine was dodgey. The new one seems as good as I'd hoped for.

I've had this for about a week now, I'm not too sure how good this will be. It charges fine, has an integrated powerbank so you can charge other usb devices but it has a charging indicator light that stays on after it's been charged. This will and does drain the battery over time, I've had to charge it twice already and I've only messed about with it in the house. It went completely dead without any use, I hope mine is broken but if not this seems a big design flaw, unless my battery is defective. It's a great looking torch and seems well worth the money at first glance but not too sure about it now, does anyone else have this problem or is mine defective?

Picked up the last 2 in Stafford, seem alright to me. Shame I was paying for 2 more car adaptors I don't need though.

Picked up a couple of these this morning when I noticed they weren't sealed and the cell was user replaceable. They seem to work fine, input is micro USB and it's currently charging my Moto E at 1.1A with minimal voltage drop - I imagine they'll be good for near enough their stated 2.1A output.
Just noticed this, it seems these use a special (possibly protected) 18650 cell that has both the positive and a negative ring at the positive end. I tried a normal 18650 cell in the torch and it didn't work. Just a heads up for those thinking of buying this to use their own batteries.

Oh dear, oh dear, you mean like the Samsung S7, still the most advanced Android phone on sale? Doesn't support Micro C, like the vast majority of Android phones. Is that a crappy Legacy phone ?

Possibly, it may function while plugged into the power bank. Besides my caravan has USB and solar panels so much less of an issue for me, I have several USB powered lights around the place now.

But you still have to wait for it to charge. A straight swap of precharged batteries gives instant light again when the battery has become too weak. You don't get that option with built in cells. It's better for me even though I have a power bank.

Bike bracket is a good idea, not sure about it flashing though as i thought on bicycles only the rear is allowed to flash.

they could have added a bike bracket and made it flashing might have been a decent bike light?

Great little product, chuck a decent (Panasonic, LG ..etc) 3500mAh 18650 into it and you have a great small emergency product which combines a half decent genuine CREE torch and a not too shabby 2.1A USB charger & 1A 18650 charger! Does a lot in a very compact and easy to carry space. Hot Hot Hot
Not really, this torch will allow you to power/charge any USB device that draws up too 2A (Tablet, Kindle, Pi, AudioCast, MiFi, Vap/e-cig ..etc..etc)

So by your definition, every android before late 2016 is a crappy legacy phone?... USB C is still taking off, it's not the norm yet.

Think you're mixing up micro and mini. Most phones use micro.

None use micro USB, all use type c. If you mean old legacy phones crappy ones in smelly dusty jeans pockets then yes, most of them use micro USB. I find it strange that current tech is not supported.

Surely it is because most android phones use micro usb?

Depends on the quality of the battery, you can reckon on getting an hour out of the Cree on full with a decent 18650 (if it's a Q5 rather than an XML led, then maybe another 30min)
but Cree leds are really bright, you could stick this on dim and it would still outclass a Maglite.
Recharge would take a few hours at most, although I've not used one of those in car adaptors before.

I've regularly bought Cree XML torches on ebay for a quid 18650 batteries are a quid upwards chargers maybe another quid?
Just look for the auctions, bid 1.02p on all of them, and in a day or so you'll win one.
If you specifically want one with USB charging without any faff, then this is OK, I've bought their AA version in the past.
