What screen protector in Poundland (or Dealz as it's called here in Ireland) are you using? An iPad one? Surprised that no one makes one especially for the device.

Ordered mine on the 2nd May, got it today (though I think I ordered late evening) - so delivery from the Malaysian ebay seller took around 14 days.
Screen had a little bit of a scratch but wasn't too bad (used a screen protector film, cut to fit, from Poundland).
Seems to work well. Bit annoying that you sometimes have to switch it on and off a few times to get the Menu back - sometimes it goes back to the previous game. Though I knew this already from reviews.

Don't get me wrong, Games looked stunning on it, and I might still buy one again, but this looks better to me, and cheaper -
Mine arrived from the UK today. It has marks inside the screen. I wiped the screen with my t-shirt as it had dust on it and the screen was scuffed from just doing that.
Sounds like the screens are made from sugar glass (like those fake bottles used in comedy sketches). Better get a screen protector ready - suppose I could pick up a cheapo from Poundland.
*Edit, a few days later: Well, tried a few Poundlands earlier and it's all tempered glass iphone protectors. But I found an ipad (film) screen protector, that leaves some margin for error as it's so big

I'm not expecting the world for £25+ but I am starting to worry that the screen will be all dinged up. Fingers crossed. I'll report back when mine arrives.
A few years back some were getting these (not the GB Boy, the GB Boy Colour) for as low as £12? Maybe they're harder to find now, or there's been an upturn in popularity? Not sure.
Unfortunately I never had a Gameboy - I had a SNES, N64 and Gamecube, so can't do a comparison with any GB games, sound quality or game speed-wise.
Posts #2 and 12 suggest that the GB Boy Colour originally came in the block colours only, and without the in-built games but that changed with later versions.

I've watched loads of reviews about this and I did see one say that their screen panel was ever-so slightly wonky in the housing. Haven't seen much chatter about widespread reliability/QC issues but who knows. These bargain basement Chinese electronics tend to cut corners :smirk: Not that I'm saying you should tolerate a marked screen, of course!
*Actually, from reading Reddit and other places, I can see a few moan their screens have scratches - underneath the clear plastic cover. Uhoh.
Yet Another Edit: This review http://supermulti.org/?post=5 says: "It takes 2 AA batteries just like the original, and the battery life seems decent enough, although sometimes it seems to drain one of them for no particular reason when the console is switched off, so maybe don't leave them in. It also takes the same AC adapter as the original."
"...It even runs an Action Replay with no problems. The one exception I've found is a single multicart that won't boot on the GBBC but does on a real GBC, but it's probably some odd mapper trickery on the cart to blame. Running the same game side by side with the real thing, the GBBC does seem to be very very slightly slower, but nothing noticeable in normal play." (strange as I've seen some say the GB Boy Colour is clocked slightly faster?).
"...the GBBC has one or two (flaws). The biggest, for me, is that the internal speaker only seems to be wired up to one of the stereo audio channels (either left or right, not sure which); this means for games that make use of stereo you'll lose out on anything that only comes through in the other channel. Some games are quite badly affected, others aren't affected at all. It works fine with headphones though."
"...The screen covering is unfortunately very susceptible to scratches...mine sits in a drawer most of the time with nothing on top of it but it has still somehow accumulated more scratches every time I take it out - you may want to invest in a screen protector..."
Apparently when the battery is about to run out it will either display a white screen or keep restarting (some mistakenly assumed it meant their unit was faulty).

Yeah the website needs some clarity and editing big time. Doesn't help that the year isn't mentioned in any Blog posts or comments. The listing for the El Cheapo says "ElCheapo SD Flash Cart V1.5/6" but other versions are in the description blurb.
I assume the v1.9 is different, as it seems less power-hungry. Will try to rummage later and see if Redditors are using this with the GB Boy Colour.
However, from a potential customer's point of view, a messy website doesn't inspire faith in the product!!
Edit: Actually the Blog post is 18 months old, d'oh! Shame they don't mention the year on the comments/blog posts.

Yeah they all do unfortunately. It's inherent in emulation although some platforms add more than others.
It's from the makers of retroarch. Apparently they figured out how to make a raspberry pi output 120hz using the gpio. In theory should lead to less input lag and motion blur using black frame insertion. Not sure what it will do to battery life though!

For similar money I guess you could get a DS and R4 with abit of a google search or a CFW PSP but this is still very good if you want no hassle (though are there truly 66 separate games on these?), I was a sucka for those fake GB carts for sale in places like Tenerife back in the day, promised loads of games but actually only had 7 or so with one being a good one and the rest all just dafter and dafter names for the same 7 games.

OllieSt
28 Apr 17#32
Mind you, from Amazon review with 'unplayable' typo
This is quite possibly the best GBC knock-off in existence. The weight is about the same, it functions exactly the same as the real thing and while it claims to have 188 built-in games, it's actually only 66. Many of the games are in Chinese, making only a small fraction of them unplayable but it still has some very good games in it, such as Contra, Super Mario Land, Pac-Man, Space Invaders and of course, Tetris.
Naturally, the best feature is the proper LCD screen. Everything is crystal clear and long gone are the days of a blurry dark screen. I absolutely love this piece of portable gaming and I will be taking it every where I go from now on.
I have only two minor complaints about it, the first is that, sometimes, the A button registers more than one press and the plastic casing is see-through. It may be a simple task to spray paint it, though.

It's also suggested that the screen is very vulnerable to scratches anyway - so probably best to cut up a plastic screen protector.
There's also discussion about a new GB Boy Colour (Reddit post from about seven months ago) https://www.reddit.com/r/Gameboy/comments/54losu/psa_new_version_of_gb_boy_colour_available_with/ which apparently has IR and 4:3 screen. Seems to be a false rumour as I can't see anyone confirming this.

Also, any rechargeable battery ideas?
Yeah nobody is gonna do that. Even Nintendo themselves downloaded roms and put them on the eshop.
* The screen is backlit so you will now be able to see the screen without having to sit like right next to the sun to see anything
I hated sitting next to the sun playing on by GBC as a kid.
suppose it's good for a pick up and play if that's your thing, although i suppose if it is, there's mobile phones for that sort of thing
