A good addition to any mancave, ideal for occasional use, limited space etc, but I wouldn't use it to build a shed... Can't go wrong for a tenner. I got one last year for odd jobs and it does them pretty well actually.

Lidl have something similar at the moment for £3 more. I can't comment on quality on either of them. I have the original black and decker work mate, and that's still going strong after over thirty years.

I bought one last year when they were on offer. It is now in the skip. The metal is not very strong and easily bends out of place when trying to fold away. It did the job (partially) for the time I had it though

Why do people say Maplins when it's just Maplin? Or Tescos, etc.? Genuinely interested in the psychology behind this, as it's not like it happens with everything.

It's pretty simple really, people become familiar with a store think of it as they do a friend's place and the name of the store as being the person who owns it rather than a store name. So basically they are going to maplin's place, aldi's place etc.

My neighbour puts an s on the end of every shop name - including the ones that already have an s at the end! --- so Sainsbury's becomes Sainsburys's --- which is even more annoying

Not easy to assemble, mostly because the instructions are a bit useless. Make sure you get the feet bent outwards - at least that's how I assume it is supposed to be. But for the price I have no regrets.

Caution, I had one of these and it bent very easily. They are not strong enough to stand on. If you put your foot on the frame to steady it while sawing, the frame will bend. Very flimsy.

Ah no. You're confused. People correctly refer to the book of revelations because they can't remember the correct title (which as you correctly point out is The Book of Revelation) so what they're actually saying is "book with the revelations in it".
And as far as I know Mary Hopkin's fine.

Only a fool would buy it and expect it to cope with anything other than light duty. Sure, you're angry that you broke yours after making a bad buying decision, but it's not a manufacturing fault, it's you expecting a Skoda to beat a BMW in a quarter mile.

£10 for a use once throw away bench,
that you have to put together yourself?
crazy just borrow one from your friends, family, neighbour.
or radical thought invest in a tidy bench, like this?
lol bad workman? I turned the handles to hold a piece of wood. They snapped. I'm honestly not sure how that makes me a bad workman when its made of cheap plastic? Its not like I was hitting it with a hammer or I'm the incredible hulk. I used them for light DIY to make some shelving units for under the stairs, not exactly expecting high performance but they couldn't even handle that. Lets be honest, the £20 b&d ones I have aren't exactly professional quality but they've already outlasted these cheap ones and believe me, they're much more stable.
Personal insults when someone had a different experience to you? You know nothing about me.
FamGuy
12 May 17#54
You're not doing it right.
It's not designed for building cabinets mate. What part of "light duty" don't you understand?! What makes you think a £10 bench would be man enough for that?
I have used it sawing plastic guttering, holding things while paint spraying, clamping things together being glued with epoxy, drilling pilot holes though various items, keeping things firm when using a heat gun etc, etc.
If you're trying to use things heavier than the bench itself you should buy a more expensive bench fit for purpose, not breaking it by overloading it and then complaining it's the bench's fault!
ConfusedCheese
12 May 17#55
Right, where exactly does it say light duty on maplins page? it says max load 70kg! they're also not cabinets, it was holding cheap studwork spread over 2 of these which weighs less than 10kg just so I could saw it. These formed the uprights for shelving units. The rest of the assembly was done on my patio using repurposed palettes from my work. Also, how does the weight it was holding have any bearing on the handles snapping from turning?
What a troll. Beginning to think you have a financial stake in their sales how you're defending this cheap tat. You've wasted enough of my time.

Mate the only thing i've lost is time to a troll who acts like a 5 year old and £20 on cheap tat that can't do anything near what it's advertised to do.
I know the deals over now, but for anyone looking at these... don't be as tight as I was and spend a little more on something that'll actually last and work for any diy job you'd need to use it for in the future. Who buys a workbench just for cutting some plastic guttering? Mental.
