Been using the printer for a few days now and it's great, I now have a top loading machine which helps when I have a fair few copies to scan
And with only paying a tiny sub every month, which I'll never notice from my account, I know I'll never be without official ink cartridges

Tried a dozen times to post this from the app but it wouldn't do it: Anyway, ordered "reserve and collect" late last night. Went to store today. "INKJET10" wouldn't work, as expired yesterday, but Manager applied a 10% code which he said was for all printers except Epson I believe. So I got mine for £90.
Cheers OP.

18 Apr 17#46
Yes, the code has expired and, depending on who you talk to at Currys, they may not be willing to price match with the £89.99 price at John Lewis, due to the fact the John Lewis page doesn't mention "up to 2 years Instant Ink".

If you don't use everyday DO NOT BUY THIS. I've got an officejet printer irregular user. Even if you just want to scan a document it goes through the cleaning cycle, you can hear it wasting your ink it's heart wrenching. Turn it on cleans the jets, go to print...it cleans the jets...turn it off...it cleans the jets.
I worked out it was costing me £2 per page I printed. Stick with a laser if you're an irregular printer user.
Davidben83 to howdiefellas
17 Apr 17#26
Can pay £1.99 per month for 50 pages regardless of how much ink it uses
TechBB to howdiefellas
18 Apr 17#45
£2 per page printed?! Surely, that's an exaggeration if I've ever heard one or you transposed the decimal point by 2 places. I'd be interested in finding out how you worked that out.
I've had an 8610 for 2 years and am a somewhat light printer user. I use the high yield XL cartridges, which costs under £30 and is rated at up to 2,300 pages.
Based on your estimation, it sounds like you're saying I should only expect to get 15 prints from a £30 cartridge, which is way, way off, even if you'd factored in other costs and variables! I've probably done perhaps 1,000 or more prints on that printer and only changed the cartridges when the initial setup inks ran out. I'm sure I'll get at least another few hundred prints out of the cartridges.
With respect to laser printers, while its SOMETIMES true that they're more suitable for infrequent prints (more due to reliability and the way how toner works vs ink), there are some caveats, not least of which include higher power consumption and the fact that if you want a proper multi-function laser printer that's on par with this in terms of features, you're looking at between £150-250 for the printer and around £500-700 for genuine toner.
For most people, the economics favour inkjet printers, even with their wallet-draining inks.

Got one fine, do you have to use the included cartridges to do the instant ink as I think they need to be installed to set it up? If so aren't you essentially 'paying' twice as it's using cartridges that you'd already have?

For those finding that printers won't accept compatible cartridges, there is supposed to be a hack. You go into settings and press restore default settings. You might have to put the original starter cartridges, then your compatible ones. Should then work.

So long as one of the plans is feasible for your usage scenario, otherwise I would buy generic/refurbished cartridges.
4. Rollover allows unused pages in a month to be placed in a rollover account and then applied to pages in excess of your monthly allowance. The rollover account balance is limited to a maximum of your monthly service plan pages (e.g: £1.99 plan 50 pages = 50 page rollover maximum).

Thanks for posting, well pleased with the printer. Picked up one from store this morning. Quoted the 10% code so got it for £89.99, no issues instore. All connected to Instant Ink and have 5 months free, the 3 month trial it came with and the additional 2 months from using the referral code and FREEINK so no payment required until the 17 September then the £74 credit is there from then on. Cashback claim is in and was easy to do so £69.99 net cost and the free ink, a no brainer.

I bought this for £99.99 in last deal. I must admit it is an excellent printer and with £74 credit I can print 50 pages a month for more than 3 years. In other words printer would cost me one pound for over 3 years. Now its even bigger bargain as its gone cheaper.

Try updating the firmware to the latest version and the problem might go away.
It's decent. And the bonus with instant ink is you pay per page, so pics are very cheap relative to other printers.
However, it's a 3 + black, for top quality lab equivalent you'll want a specialised photo printer. They tend to have 5 or more inks, but will cost more per print.

Official priced inks seem to be horrendously expensive! Amazon are charging £76 for a set of 4! I guess if I do buy this, once the 2 years are up, I'll probably get rid of the printer, or purchase them off eBay.
Mentos to AzNDeals

Plan to get rid after credit is used. It's a decent printer, but from reviews it's on the over zealous side with the cleaning cycles. So unless you do lots of regular printing, you won't be getting the 2k pages out of those carts :/

37 months @ £1.99/ month (assuming they don't put the price up). Plus 3 months trial, plus 1 month with freeink code, plus 1 month with referral.
