The reality is they are terrible, and their customer service is hopeless and has been well before the dryer fiasco. You will need an extended labour warranty and many don't realise they only get the parts warranty so people will continue to post this. If they weren't terrible you wouldn't see these sorts of comments. A once great British brand ruined.

Bit like the washer will be shortly :disappointed:

Buy cheap buy twice. I was burnt with an Indesit washer that was more economical to replace than repair for a second time in less that 2 years. Hotpoint fridgefreezer that fell to bits too. You'd be better off with Beko in all honesty...

Me too. We had a Hotpoint washer/dryer for getting on for 20 years which, when we moved house a couple of years ago, decided to leave behind. It had served us well & apart from minor errors (once when the brushes had worn out) kept going and going. Latterly, the door became loose & had to be put back on prior to use so we decided to leave it behind & purchase a another at our new home. Big mistake. After months of having engineers coming out & fiddling with it & replacing different parts, we contacted Indesit & told them it wasn't fit for purpose. The clothes came out as dirty as they went in. Luckily for us, we ended up getting a full refund & went for a Samsung Eco Bubble, which is brilliant.

I think the point is not everybody can afford a £300 plus bosch samsung miele etc so for under £200 a large capacity machine as opposed to a smaller swan beko hisense or other budget brand for the same money represents a great deal. If you can find the same spec for the same price id love to see it.

recently replaced my last hotpoint washing machine after 12 years. Bought a 9KG hotpoint for £220 and happy with it. If you need a machine your want to use every other day then you need a miele or an expensive make. For low use (once a week or so) these are ok.

Hotpoint replaced our dryer 11 months ago with a new one. It's broken down twice in those 11 months. Hotpoint keep sending junk mail asking for nearly £60 to extend the warranty for 12 months. Going to sell it while it's working and get a different brand.

I love the way people aggrandise their own experiences as fact. I replaced a Bosch washer that broke down after 3 years with a Hotpoint that has lasted 6 and is still going... ergo Hotpoint are great and Bosch are rubbish!?

Or perhaps that was just my own experience and has very little relevance to anybody else.

Looks a good deal to me. Heat.

I bought a Hotpoint Fridge Freezer which lasted less than 24 hours. I then had a fight on my hands to
a/ Get the food I lost compensated for. They insisted on receipts, but who keeps food shopping receipts? I ripped the front off all the boxes & posted it to them.
b/ They wanted to repair the fridge rather than replace it. There was no way I was accepting a repair for a brand new product that was a few hours old.
c/ They did not have the fridge I bought in stock & wanted to give me the model below (which was a lot smaller). I the had to fight with them for the model above.

I was then stupid enough to buy a Hotpoint Washing machine based on price and a cash back offer. When I claimed the cash back I was told that my model was not part of the cash back offer (they had changed the offer). Luckily (or so I thought) I had a copy of the cash back deal which included the model I bought. I sent this to them, but still didn't receive my cash back.
The machine which is just 2 years old failed. 5 year warranty on parts, but they wanted a fortune for someone to come out & check the machine. There would then be a possible further charge to come back and repair the machine. I ended up getting a genuine Hotpoint part for under £20 from fleabay.

So some people making 'comments' are based on a personal poor experience.
Still voted hot.

Yours would have been from hotpoints better product era and may have been made in the U.K. Modern hotpoint products are complete junk as are hoover and indesit. It's almost guaranteed that it will breakdown just outside of warranty. Get a Beko if on a budget

Whirlpool bought a controlling stake of Indesit in 2014 100% from 2016. Italian Ariston owner Indesit bought 50% of Hotpoint parent GDA in 2001 and 6 years later swallowed it up. Last year Whirpool bought the remaining shares in Indesit and its brands are a subsidiary of Whirlpool Italy. Whirlpool scaled back the 'repair' business just before the drier issue.

I have a Hotpoint machine I bought 2+ years ago, £290 its a great machine (£10 a month so far which is cheaper than self service wash/dry at launderette), the problem I find with Whirlpool is when things do go wrong even booking a repair is a nightmare now because of the 'drier' fiasco it bought by buying heritage GDA through Indesit, Whirpool laid off staff of its "repair" business, most wont come back and it cant train them quick enough.

I have a Whirlpool cooking product and recently getting a repair was a nightmare to the point the product insurance agreed to replace like for like.

I agree with all the negative comments about Hotpoint.

On a budget, and want something that will last longer than a Hotpoint machine? Beko.

Have lots of spare cash, and want something that lasts years? Miele.

Middle of the road? Want something reliable but don't want to buy cheap or spend over the odds? LG/Samsung.

2 dishwashers replaced by hotpoint after they kept flooding the kitchen, replacement gave up after a year. Washer constantly breaking down and engineer here nearly every month but that's ok from hotpoint point of view because I was stupid enough to pay for the extended warranty. Fridge was the only thing that lasted but required new salad drawer and milk holders all paid for. The washer the bolts that hold the concrete block on top snapped off customer service said wast a warranty repair. So from owning hotpoint all my life parents doing the same replaced all over the last few years with other makes Samsung, Siemens and LG some replaced now 5 years or more and you have guessed it never had an engineer out. Pay a little extra and get a full warranty which saves the extra monthly costs you have to pay if you have a hotpoint.
Bikerdanny
2 Apr 17 2 #45
Please just buy a beko if your on a budget, yes you might have to settle on a smaller capacity for the same money which isn't the best when your a large family, but that's far less agro than dealing with hotpoint customer service and having to pay massive labour charges when it's out of its 1 year warranty and broke

Had my Hotpoint dishwasher 14/15 years, occasional issue the circuit seems to say there is a fault but unplug for a hour and its cleared - it reports a shut down problem with 'leaking' that does not exist LOL, fridge freezer has had fridge freezing issues granted but again its the same age & had one call out, 2+ years washing machine fine.

Washing machines are one thing that most people overload and this causes damage of all sorts, always stick to the setting you choose max weight as adding water on a heavily overloaded machine is like expecting a wet cloth to float in the bath & most people vastly overload to get the laundry "out of the way" or believe running it once for everything saves more money - not when repairs need done.

I use the WM every 2/3 days on a 30c/30min 'refresh' wash for normal clothes, at weekends my 60c 'bacteria' washes - underwear, cloths, bedding, towels - 90c wash once a month.

I bought the WM to match my current Graphite dishwasher and fridge, in youth(er days) wanting everything to look 'streamlined', which I wont do again due to cost, the WM was a replacement for 20+ year old Servis. I will look for the best product (as long as its not white/cream/beige!) at the best price ongoing.

One thing I believe helps kitchen appliances life longer is using Ecover and other environmentally friendly plant based products as no chemical build up inside dishwasher/washing machines - my issues have always been electronic related, I've had repair men comment on have I cleaned internal parts or run a 'cleaner' recently as they note how clean the 'insides' in comparison. Washing machines etc don't need Calgon its just something to sell you, they need like a car good oil. Run a hot wash (white towels) with a whack of cheap baking soda & (plant based) fabric conditioner level once a month as it breaks down residual chemicals in the internals.

I wash all my laundry with Ecover fabric conditioner (except whites as they turn grey) a cap in both slots in the drawer, much much cheapness than two wash/conditioner products - try it. Whites get a 60/90c wash with no detergent, baking soda and fabric conditioner.

Washing machines like cars need maintained or they break down. Some brands are better than others at poor maintaining, just like cars.

Monthly visits - but esp bolts holding concrete that snap off is most defo a overloading issue with any manufacturer, they all test machines - weight+water but more so spin cycles, esp higher speeds with overloads. Also given the 'water machines issues' are you using a spirit level when installing new machines & adjusting the feet ? I find Hotpoint anti flood mechanisms kick in when not level, this certainly is true for my dishwasher, same as when a washing machine drum refuses to spin because of undistributed weight.

Then again maybe you have had extremely bad luck ?

A family member had a (self repaired numerous times) Tricity Bendix washer for 25+ years replaced by a Zanussi a few years back, their Zanussi dishwasher has lasted 20+ years but their previous Zanussi fridge freezer lasted about 10 yrs, with the Servis replacement F/F lasting 20+ years. It is now of a time we are disposable more than ever and Which etc is what I make buying a appliance on, not brand loyalty or streamlining...some things you just learn with experience.

As for warranties, shop about, a few quid a month is worth it esp with higher value items, my £350 combi microwave is now £700 for much the same specs as 4 years ago as removing 'standalone' models and making them 'built in' only the manufacturer doubled the price ( )

The trick with these washing machines is to use the 30 minutes or 1 hour wash cycles. It will last for a long time then like mine has and it's still going strong. Over the last 30 years we've had a few hotpoint washing machines which get used at least twice a day and they have all been very good from my experience.

Yup can confirm this, my last Servis was like a 1960's test zone for Concorde engines - you could hear and feel the vibrations shaking the place through old thick thick stone walls with a bathroom in between the lounge and kitchen, I used to spin most things dry when taking a shower with the radio on just to not listen to it, no joke

The problem on HUKD is that you get shouted down for explaining the brands of yesteryear are not the same anymore except for the badge on the appliance.

Hotpoint aren't Hotpoint anymore; Panasonic don't make many of their own TVs; Polaroid /Hitachi / JVC etc etc etc.....

Inferior substandard products made with cheap parts.

I'm dreading when our washing machine & dryer need replacing!!!
JB0007
3 Apr 17 1 #63
I agree. I remember once when the engineer had come to mend our washer/dryer once remarking that it was shown as being made in Great Britain & that even then, several years ago, they weren't any more.
As far as being shouted down is concerned, I do wonder why some people are actually on here sometimes other than to post totally unnecessary comments.......

Which magazine did an analysis of washing machines a few years back that identified the reliability of washing machines was closely related to price points - generally those sold at less than £300 were more than twice as unreliable as those above that price point.

Bear also in mind that discounted items say from £500 to £300 were in the same reliability price as those £300 and under - because they are discounted for a reason, usually because they used a cheaper manufacturing process or are subcontracted to another country for that model. So the same washing machine that would otherwise be reliable if made in Germany, has a prefix in the model number which indicates that model is made in China, with cheaper parts.

I'd go with the German owned companies over the US owned ones because Germans take quality and service of their products more seriously.
