I have no faith in GearBest - I ordered a MgCool action camera from this company, paid via PayPal - 3 weeks after they took my money I emailed to see where my order was - they said item was out of stock. They refunded my money via PayPal, but I will not try to spend money with them again - not sure if the problem is with GearBest or with MgCool as they have been advertising a camera called MgCool Explorer 2 since November 2016 but it still is not available to buy as it has not been released yet ! So I will buy from a UK or European supplier.

Just putting this out there. If people haven't been able to get this camera for any reason, the one I got from ebay is really good quality (nothing to compare against, as this is my first cam). Yet to try it out on my bike, but footage from a short dog walk in the sun and from messing about with it indoors is good in 1080p @60FPS. If people want a link, just say (Y) Although it seems the blue version I bought is now gone, but they have a few of the black version left (doubt it would be long before they're all sold though).
Somehow I think these gearbest deals are just auto generated!?

I've had a message from them stating that they won't be shipping as it's unavailable from the supplier. Gave me a choice of either reimbursement back into paypal, or money into my gearbest wallet, along with extra points to spend on the site. Not ideal, and I understand it will have been a preorder for them to get X amount of sales before they can get the order from the supplier at said price.
I've asked for my money back into paypal (apparently they get it back to you within 2 days) and ordered another one which I viewed a review of on youtube. little more expensive, but has gyro too
Good luck people.

Thanks for replying, sounds like you have an interesting hobby on the go. These cameras have merit as dashcam's I know there's a lot of good choice out there at the moment.

In my experience all these small action cameras are pretty bad quality. Yes they're cheap but for me I just couldn't appreciate the photos or movies from them...

I bought the Mgcool one first, I had planned to use it on the bottom of my rc bait boat and use the WiFi app to see around the lake. Only later I found out that the WiFi signals don't work through water. I then decided that an action cam with VA output would work so I could mount a WiFi transmitter to the top of the boat and output the video feed from the camera to the transmitter. There is very little infomation on this camera and I didn't no weather this would output video via the mini USB so I looked for an alternative. I found the elephone explorer elite to be the best option for the price. If I had known earlier I may not have bought the other but I'll use it as a better dash cam if nothing else.

Just out of curiosity, why did you buy both? Does not the explorer elite have better quality internals.

4 Apr 17#37
Thanks for the info. I decided to have a punt on one of these and also ordered a Elephone EleCam Explorer Elite to have a play with before this one is released.

How does this one compare to the other more expensive MGCOOL explorer cams available on gearbest? I'm after a WiFi camera for remote underwater shooting.

I can't work it out and its doing my head in. I think it largely comes down to the sensor. This one seems to use a GC2023 which apears to be only 2MP with higher still and video resolutions being achieved by interpolation.
The Explorer 4k seems to use an 8MP Sony sensor that again uses interpolation for some of its higher resolutions.
The ? top of the range 1S uses a 12.4MP Sony sensor and a different chipset but again uses interpolation for max resolutions. also has image stabilisation which is a big bonus.
Might have got it completely wrong though. anyway, I'm going for the 4k explorer for the extra £5 with a known sensor and less interpolation.

Not sure whether the MGCOOL Explorer WiFi 4K Sports Camera - SILVER 208049402 for an extra fiver is a better deal. Sems yo have Sony sensor rather than this Geko Micro GC2023. that I don't know anything about.
Are these both gopro rip offs and can utilise the same accessories as gopro?

You know if this model turns on automatically for dashcam use? I wonder is there a name for that specification?

Use AliExpress instead. Plenty of GoPro copies on there (including Hero 5). Great quality if you can't justify GoPro prices

i think amazon would be as near instant on a preorder, and considering they wouldnt have shipped it, gearbest wouldnt have had an excuse not to refund you. Its the faults and lost items where the service is awful.

I had an item on preorder the other day and changed my mind 2 weeks after ordering (it was actually the 1s version of this camera)
Went on live chat and asked to cancel, before the convo had even finished I had an email from PayPal saying I had been given a refund. Don't think even amazon can match that customer service!

its their customer services, not the fear of customs charges which they avoid paying

Great deal but what puts me off these deals is not knowing if it will arrive and if you will get stung for customs duty. I have had not insured / tracked items never arrive. I have had insured / tracked items arrive but have had to pay a hefty import duty. Great if all goes ok but a hassle if not.

They will usually mark it as a gift anyway which you only pay duty on above £39. So you would be very unlucky to be hot with this.
Just buy thought PayPal and don't pay extra fro insured delivery

Seems decent for the price for those who don't want to splash out 200-400 on a go pro.

Never had any problems with gearbest, recently bought some Xiaomi items and they were delivered promptly (much faster then aliexpress and dhgate).
Have some heat, looks like a very promising product.
Well it's brand new and on pre-order, I doubt there will be any reviews yet.

As with all China based sellers - use Paypal, its all the protection you'll get. In the event of problem, try to make a claim from Paypal. Sending items back to China is too expensive. Personally never had problems with Gearbest, but they are not known for good customer service in the event of a problem.
