They work as an internet hub only using 4G signal (where available) as opposed to plugging into the phone socket. I have used one in my current house where I don't yet have fibre. I was getting a better speed than when I had fibre at a previous house! Advantages are it is portable and you can carry it around with you (provided it is charged) and it doesn't require a telephone line (does require a mobile signal though!). Disadvantages are price (see cost of tariffs above although got the deal a few weeks ago for 14.50 for 32gb a month). Can't connect an ethernet cable. Reliant on mobile signal. I would only recommend if you don't have a decent speed with your home broadband (still need to check your ee coverage!) or travel a lot and want a mobile hotspot

£4.99 to buy the device, but monthly data payments are more:
Data options - 2 GB for £12 per month
- 4 GB for £18 per month
- 16 GB for £23 per month
- 32 GB for £29 per month

I think these are meant to be sold alongside a pay monthly contract, but I don't know if they'll try and make you buy one when you get to the store or if you can actually buy this no questions asked for £4.99.
If the latter, then this is a bargain at £4.99. Chuck in a preloaded data sim and you've got a handy little mobile data router.

Can you cancel within 30 days and keep it or do you have to give it back? Also are these unlockable?

looks like you can cancel within 14 days ... BUT you would need to take everything (including the router) back to the store you bought it in.
I currently pay £20 for 20gb with ID network 30day rolling contract cudnt beat it although I'd like more data runs out often

nice one - just reserved. Hopefully they dont try and force you to buy a sim plan too (as I already have an EE sim card)
Can anyone confirm if they do?

They do make you buy one of the 4 Sim plans listed above. They say the product description clearly states that and the POS system blocks any sale without a pm SIM card

thought that might be the case. they would be hard pushed to claim that it states this on the website though - cause it dont. probably not worth going to collect it now.

Could they be unlocked to take any sim? Is there such a thing as an unlimited data sim??

Thanks OP - would be useful to bridge the gap when I bin my current broadband connection and get a new one.

I just bought the device from currys for £4.99. You have to sign up to a 30 day rolling contract. Took the cheapest option of £12 a month (2GB data). I also just called EE to cancel the contract - no extra charges. So all in, device cost is £16.99.

How so? I've got a 16Gb monthly allowance on EE which I barely scratch.
