I think smithy is referring to the fact that each plug itself has 2 ethernet ports.

IT SAYS 2.5 WATTS. I AM UNSURE IF THIS IS DURING USE, AVERAGE or at Power Saving mode.

Do they use a lot of power?

I've got 3 different variations of these from 200mgps through to 500, wired an wireless. they're plug n play and do the jobs without hassle for pretty much everything. never experienced any throttling or bottlenecks. signal strength is solid with no packet loss. distribution of WiFi is good. only downside is the need for an occasional flick of the power switch to reboot them but it's back up in seconds.

You have to use both otherwise you literally can't use them. One goes near your router with an Ethernet cable plugged in from your router to the adapter.
The other goes elsewhere in your house with an Ethernet cable connecting to whatever TV/console/PC you want to connect.

not gigabit port

I take it that a 'gigabit port' would have a faster connection? What does this actually mean to the average net surfer?
...also, probs a daft question but...do you have to have the sockets switched on for these devices to work?

These are only 500Mbps, what good would a Gigabit port be?
These are fine for surfing the web, if you're streaming movies from a NAS you'll want the 1200 version

I do not understand how they can put a 500Mbps (2x250Mbps) on a 100Mbps port, what is the point of having speeds on the plug that exceeds the speed of the port?
Or am I confusing summit?

That's assuming there's a gigabit port at the other end and that the connection over the power line is over 100Mbps. Given those two pre-requisites there could be some benefit when transferring data between devices connected to the two plugs. For browsing and downloading from the internet the speed benefit would also require a connection and throughput faster than 100Mbps.

Wired only, no WiFi! Rather buy one Wi-Fi and wired compatible.

Gigabit would be faster, but for streaming TV these will be fine.
The sockets must be switched on. The signal travels around the house on the Live wire and you have to power these for them to work.:stuck_out_tongue:
