Is this the hike in fresh vegetable prices they keep warning us about?

5 Apr 172#27
FYI, the reason we're seeing this is that warm weather has caused a glut in the cauliflower and other vegetables supply as supermarkets usually import cauliflowers (and other vegetables) from Spain this time of year.
The fact that some vegetables are cheap do not mean the concerns of food prices rising are unwarranted. Food prices are rising rapidly since Brexit because of the pound slump. Your comment isn't clever, it's the equivalent of saying "global warming isn't real cause it's cold outside".
This presumably relates to imported fresh veggies - of which there are many in the supermarkets. Also, if the UK farms lose their supply of min wage workers then UK sourced prices will go up too - perhaps the govt could force some of those Brits on the dole long term to actually work for their keep?

Someone needs to learn the concept of loss-leaders in supermarkets.
No this is supermarkets wheeling people through the door with loss leaders. They are making a huge loss on these promotions but make it up by charging one or two pence more on baked beans or tinned good for instance.
These prices are not reflective of the true cost of fruit or vegetables.

I like Aldi Fruit and Veg always good value and reasonably fresh. I havant been so lucky with Lidl, veg has been tired and they have overcharged me on several occasions, always a hassle unless you spot the mistake in store on the day at the till otherwise they wont do anything about it if pointed out on your following visit. For that reason I rarely shop at Lidl anymore, trust has gone.

Not just supporting farmers but showing hoelw good food can be got for cheap. Plenty of tasty meals can be made relatively easy so no excuse for people to eat junk all the time.

Strange as it may seem, food prices, along with prices of everything else, always change, generally in an upward direction, as do incomes. The only thing I can think of off hand that's fallen consistently and stayed low for an extended period is interest rates.
As with all Brexit associated hysteria emanating from the remoaners, only time will tell. Short term fluctuations are no indicator of long term consequences.
Vegetable price rises earlier in the year, primarily lettuce, cabbage and cauliflower, were caused by bad weather in Spain. Now unless you're saying the rain in Spain falls mainly due to Brexit, I think you need to wait and see.

what a really good super 6 deal. i recently tried 'curried parsnip soup' for the first time. simply amazing it was too. And as for being on slimming world, this kind of deal will do nicely for making free & speedy soups as well as extra speed for our meals. Bravo lidl

But the farmers still sell them en masse to the supermarkets anyway, whether I eat them or they end up in a bin. Have you seen how much product supermarkets throw away, simply because farmers are growing more than the supermarkets can sell?

Easier than normal rice. Just stick cauliflower in a food processor and blitz until it's the right size, then cook it however you want.
I make cauliflower rice with my korma, just wash it, blitz it and you can either fry it a little in some butter or just add a little water to a pan and saute it for a couple of minutes. I also make a cous cous with it, some homemade mayo, chopped egg, spring onions and cheese cubes, scrumdiddlyumptious.
