Agreed.
I too have one of the Anker speakers and although it doesnt come close to the Bose soundlink mini models, I rate it above these.
I paid £21.99 for mine.....

the sound on these is awesome but the battery is shocking, we've got two and get 2-3 hours use
It's not a bad product but it's a shame about the bargain basement casing and plastics. And given the way it looks you'd expect it to have increased durability and/or waterproofing - and it has neither. I believe the speaker configuration is mono, not stereo like the Soundlink Mini everyone compares it to.

They're releasing a new version soon, more silicon covering and splash proof.
I just grabbed this one in white for my son, it's a nice bit of kit from a decent (but generally overpriced) brand. Yep there's cheaper, more expensive, smaller, bigger etc Bluetooth speakers out there, nobody's holding a gun to anyone's head. Buy the one you like, personally I still use my 30 pin Bose wireless dock. These days it needs an adapter, cheap Bluetooth one works fine. And it prefers being plugged in as I'm too tight to spend what Bose would want for a replaceable clip on battery. Oh, the sound, yeah that's why I bought it and still use it. Perfect for me.

Think long and hard before you search for the "W" Anker series of speaker
This is the one I got for £21.99 (about three weeks ago).
I agree with all of that, and I had one because it does sound good. I have those of those silver Sounddock Portables that you have - really good sound but those batteries seem to last a year before failing (I bet yours died soon after purchase)?

I rarely used it on battery, but yeah it wasn't great. They want £69.38 for a replacement battery, which is typical Bose, they're as tedious as Apple with their pricing. I could just buy one of these for less than a quid more.
But as it works great on the mains I'll stick with it, I bet the sound is still better than this Bluetooth one.

I have a load of Bluetooth speakers at home - including a pretty big Anker one, and this is my favourite speaker. The plastic doesn't feel cheap to me at all - it feels like good quality matte polycarbonate, and the sound is fantastic. You can also link multiple devices and just switch between them by tapping the Bluetooth button. I haven't seen that on many devices.
I thought I ought to throw my hat into the ring here and give this device some love since it seems to be getting some negativity on here. If I had to keep just one Bluetooth speaker it would 100% be this one. Even if it *is* mint green.

The negativity is because it's a bit of a cheap attempt by Bose to cash in on the portable speaker rush.
The sound quality is very good (but sounds mono), that's true, and it is on the cheaper end to get you into Bose products but the edging finish is cheap (you can feel the ridges, they're not smoothed off), the casing isn't exactly robust (it doesn't creak but it would almost definitely crack with a moderate drop) and finally despite the fun colours and design, they have missed a trick by not waterproofing it - and that's a bit of a downfall when your competition are units like the JBL Flip/Charge 3 and UE Boom which offer more value and better performance.

I guess opinions vary then as it didn't even cross my mind that the build felt cheap, I just thought it was fun. I was aware it is mono but that didn't really bother me with this unit as smaller stereo units don't really have any separation when you blast them out in the garden anyway.
Each to their own and all that but I really like mine, and don't really care about waterproofing. I'm sure it can withstand a bit of rain, and we all tend to dash in it it tips it down anyway.

It isn't mono, it has 2 speakes and gives stereo sound but as the speakers are close together, like most portable speakers, it gives a limited stereo sound effect.
