So the new one is due out soon looking at the Bose web site, has a built in mic for integration from Siri, Google etc, but RRP of £129, that's double the price... can't see the new one being that much of an improvement !

Yes, I did. However, I was asking you to expand on what you meant.
You have placed "deep blacks" and "crisp audio" in quotation marks. Therefore, I presume that is a direct reference to what What HiFi said about an HDMI Cable? I searched on Google, but couldn't find any of their reviews or articles which said that. Perhaps you could point us in the right direction?
Not exactly word perfect, but hopefully you get the picture.

I have one of these for this price it's bang on nice clear audio bass is also decent and sounds ok outside, also battery life is very good around 8 hours I think I also have a b&o play A2 which is 5 times the price obviously sounds better but battery life is pitiful only 2-3 hours if that. Also has a line in port so using that instead of Bluetooth could save some juice

Would this sound better than my built in TV speakers? (and if so is there a way to connect using a wire rather than the battery?)
I will be using it as a portable speaker too but was on about a sound bar for my TV recently too so if this covers that it would be ideal!
spannerzone to johncas
27 Apr 17#35
It depends on how good/bad your tv speakers are, if your TV has a 3.5mm headphone socket you could connect a cable to this speaker and it would work BUT the stereo effect will possibly be poorer than the TV speakers as this has 2 speakers very close together., if you don't have a headphone socket you may have an audio (line) output that could go into the Aux input on this. Whether a sound bar is better is down to what you're expectations and budget are I suppose.
If you can find a use for this as a portable speaker then get it, it might also work for your TV as a bonus.

It really isn't that simple. A poorly constructed or shielded or terminated cable can lead to greater EBR (error bit rate) which *can* lead to incorrect display or audio data. You may be pushed to see it, and of course, if it's really badly made or damaged you may not even get a signal, but the binary concept of 'signal gets through or it doesn't' really is an over simplification. Conversely, a $150 HDMI cable won't improve the picture quality or deliver "deeper blacks". So you're right, but in a somewhat simplistic way .:-)

Gret find! Reserved it at Argos, yet they tried to charge £99 and then said it's out of stock. Upon summoning the manager, he quickly found one and changed the price back to £64.99 + fiver voucher.
Incredible sound by the way, nothing compares to Soundlink, we've tried harman-kardon, creative, jbl, ue and aether cone and simply, all of them sound like a joke once you've heard bose.

I've had a number of hdmi cables and have ended up buying not the budget ones after having issues with hdcp handshaking for those. In my mind that was due to the hdcp not being correctly transmitted (not getting through ;-) which was fixed when using neet cables. It was a simplification but as you conceded, cheap cables are likely, if anything, to just give you macro issues (no picture/sound or wholesale dropouts) rather than subtle defects. TBH i find hdmi to be damned sensitive to dodgy cables but you don't need to spend hundreds, just enough to avoid the real cheap tat with the shielding/termination issues you mention. I've used neet very successfully and a heavily discounted mark grant one for a 10m run to the projector.

I was almost tempted to get another of these as mine is a mint green and I've always wanted the black one!
This is my favourite Bluetooth speaker - great battery life, reliable connection, ability to switch between paired devices by just tapping the Bluetooth button. No handsfree capability - which in my eyes is a bonus (I don't really want calls coming through my speaker during a party or barbecue). Best of all the sound reminds me of a quality Roberts radio from the early 90s: not overly bassy or generally trying to achieve anything beyond its size - just solid, quality sound.

Ugh.... Bloody Amazon!
At this great price I thought I would treat myself and purchase one, as the Amazon price match link was posted in the thread I thought that would be the best option as I have prime.
When i purchased the speaker it said that they were still in stock, payment went through ok etc. However, on the Amazon tracker, the package was due to be delivered by the end of the day....but it said that the package had yet to be dispatched.... great...
So, i phoned Amazon (the purchase was made through Amazon EU S.a.r.L). I was told that it was out of stock and they claimed it was the fault of Bose.... and they had now idea when the speaker would come back into stock.
So, I shouted...she said that there was nothing she could do
I shouted again....she offered me a £5 voucher
Some more shouting.... I was given a £10 voucher.
Still really annoyed.
