I only got mine today, as I ordered this to a friend's house as I was away.

It has a wobble indeed. also annoyed by the bits case not being able to contain the bit holder itself... German engineering?

Where did you guys sent the service request email? Thanks

17 May 17 #287
I have not got it back yet and they have not contacted me apart from saying that they have received it and it is being processed and that was on the 11/05 so i have emailed them for an update.
Just got an email back saying
Good Afternoon Stuart,

Thank you for your email.

I have had a look at the details and we currently have some components on order from our factory in Germany. The order was placed yesterday and can take around 7-10 working days as advised by the factory.

Once the parts have been fitted, it will be sent out to you via TNT. From the time that it takes to leave our Service Centre to you receiving it once the repair has been carried out will be around 5 working days.

So it is going to be a while till i find out if the problem is solved

just got another Email saying.
Dear Customer,

Thank you for using our service centre for the repair of your impact drill.

We have completed the repair and today are sending it via Fedex

Did you get your drill sorted?

Just wanted to let everyone know that I got my drill back on the second working day. I returned it because the drill kept coming out lose when you put it in fast speed and do many starts and stops. They send the drill back stating that there was nothing worng with it. But when I checked the drill it doesn't have the problem anymore. I did few pilot holes on a piece of wood. The size of the holes are perfect and I don't see any wobble on the drill.

Happy so far but don't know how this happiness will last as I haven't given the drill much work.

Now to register for the extended warranty...

Both of the drills I received look very good with a long drill bit in. Not perfect but then again these are not pillar drills and are built to a certain price. I am happy and am looking for other Bosch 18V tools to make better use of the 6 batteries I now have :-)

I also received the email saying I would not get the cash back... ah well, still a bargain

I am at home tomorrow anyway and its going back in the same box they sent back to me in and yeah it looks like lots of people are complaining about this problem on a few different drills and as for what drill i get next as long as it spins and it does the job of what it was made to do then ill be happy
MaximusRo
8 May 17 #276
For some it is just too much trouble, having to be at home to hand it to the courier and also maybe package it and prepare it for shipment.
Bosch could easily pick up the hints from the forums, lots of users complaining.
On the other hand, it seems other manufacturers might have the same issues. After all, they might be sourcing the chucks from the same supplier... What Dewalt are you going for?
satstuart
8 May 17 #275
I contacted Bosch support again and explained what had happened and that it came back and it is still not centred and it still has a wobble and even a new problem that the chuck wont close to lock the bits in place(just clicks) and i was told that it will be picked up again tomorrow and I have to put for the attention of John Flynn on the box with the order number. I will try one more time as I am not in any hurry and if it comes back again with the same problem i will get a refund and get DeWalt.

8 May 17 #274
From the information I gathered from the Bosch forums (some of the links I posted above) it seems there is not much they can do and especially the models with hammer action are expected to have some wobble.
I pretty much expect (with regret) to see the same scenario repeating, people getting them back from repairs only to find the wobble is still there.

It seems the all metal chucks models are the only ones that might not have the wobble.

Just got mine back from Bosch and at first it looked ok until i used it on about 12 screws on my decking i am repairing and now again it still has a big wobble and when trying to drill long screws it just skips and vibrates like hell so i tried to drill with it and its just as bad so back to using my £30 from argos one which does not have a wobble.
Time for a refund i guess :disappointed:
Just tried to drill a pilot hole and the drill bit bent :disappointed:
satstuart
8 May 17 #272
Forget what i just said as i have just used it to put 12 screws into the decking boards that i am repairing and it now has one nasty wobble again (worse than before) Time to get a refund this time :disappointed:

Just got mine back from Bosch and it is now working perfectly with no wobble. They replaced the gearbox and when i first looked at it the outer plastic key chuck and spun it, it looked like it still had the wobble' but when i put the long drill bit in it spun perfectly centred so problem solved

For anyone trying to register it for the 3 year warranty, their website is pants, would not let me register but the Bosch Toolbox app works perfectly. You do have to register each item tho, each battery the drill and the charger so it takes a couple of mins.

Also on the Bosch toolbox app you can claim the cashback offers but you can clearly see on there that although the drill body is the same the rest is not, the cashback kit comes with 2x 2.0ah batteries and an L-Boxx there is zero chance of this kit going through on that offer.

Finally on the wobbly chuck thing I noticed on mine the plastic housing you grip to tighten/loosen is on a rather wobbly elliptical orbit but the internal metal which grips the bits seems to be going round correctly although I have not tested it with anything scientific. So I suggest before you panic, stick a long drill bit in it, look at it side on and line the drill bit up with something in the background which is dead straight (I used the top of my tv) then pull the trigger and see if it wobbles. Not scientific but if you cant see any wobble doing that then its probably ok.

Still seem like imperceptible to me in that video.

But if you say they confirmed it will be fixed... I can only imagine the number of people sending them to be fixed these days
Strange they sell them like that, broken from new... I don't get it.

There is a reason they are cheap I guess. Very disappointed now, as I ordered this to my aunt as I am away, so I cannot really test it or send it back for that matter. It seem to be a consensus they all come like that, so there is a very good chance mine suffers from this too.
satstuart
4 May 17 #255
It is with bosch now and they have said it does need to be fixed but the part needed to fix the wobble is out of stock but thay have ordered it and it will take 2-3 days to arrive anyway the wobble isnt that much of a problem if you are just using it for screws (you can still feel a vibration in the drill) but if you use it with drill bits it just does not drill the hole the same size. Imagine you are drilling a hole with a working fully working drill and you do a circle motion while holding the drill then the drill bit will also do a counter circle (wobble) motion and make the hole bigger. Anyway no drill should have a wobble and it shoud always spin centered.
MaximusRo

Tested mine driving a 10 x 100mm screws into hardwood. No issues. Not sure what i would be looking for if it a wobble issue on the chuck. I also used a wera impaktor set that i had lying around..
GoNz017
25 Apr 17 2 #192
I did a very untechnical test, brand new 2.5mm Bosch cobalt bit, drill stood on it's own and a metal ruler.

Bosch specs are 0.4mm runout at 40mm using I think a 6mm test rod.

I measured the bit at 40mm and put the ruler next to it in 1st gear. zero noticeable runout at the tip. I repeated with the ruler horizontal and got the same result.

the supplied bit holder is a pile of crap as that has a 1mm runout, to be expected really. I then put in my wera impaktor bit holder and that has zero runout, also do not test with a bit in the holder as it will never sit centred, check the out part of a fixed ring not the part you pull back to release the bit.

Never test with a used drill bit & ignore the plastic chuck grip runout, that is normal.

Hope this helps anyone wondering about it.

Either way Bosch will collect the drill for free to test it for you and replace the chuck if it is out, no point sending it back at this price. Bosch will collect the NBD after you create a service request and aim to turn it around in 5 days, past experience is raise a request monday morning, collected Tuesday, fixed Wednesday if it is a straight forwards job and in stock then you get it back Thursday.

What is the factory seal?
I had the screwdriver bits extender missing from the bonus bits case also it wobbles, runout of 1-2mm at 60mm depth.
Don't care much about the extender but the runout tolerance is apparently 0.4mm!

The codes are from here, or other voucher sites.

Essentially i've put the voucher code in for another purchase and not completed the purchase. Either because their website has told me at the last step the item isn't in stock (doesn't seem to do a proper check until the last step, as per complaints on this thread) or i've changed my mind.

What i've discovered inadvertently is the code seems to stay there and gets applied next time. In this case I couldn't even find the original code I'd used and it had likely expired. But it still got applied to my order and stacked with the £15 off code.

So next time I see a good code, I plan to test this out by adding a qualifying item and applying the code. But not proceeding to the final step of the order. Next time their is a good deal or item I want, i'll then see if the glitch takes effect again or it was a one off.

My thinking as well, bosch have always been good at confusing me with model numbers and capabilities, they are also good at adding the wrong spec images. No way that 36v is a light model imo.
MaximusRo
22 Apr 17 #112
Well, 18v will always shame a 10.8 one... but I actually start to believe the Li part is just bull, probably Bosch lost it at some point and just gave up and randomly added some letters.
If you look at these two:
https://shop.bosch-professional.com/gb/en/product/cordless-combi-gsb-18-2-li-plus--38175#
https://shop.bosch-professional.com/gb/en/product/cordless-combi-gsb-18-ve-2-li--34754#PD-Prices

You can see although both of them have the "Li" suffix, only one of them is called part of the LightSeries...
while the second one is part of the RobustSeries...

So there is no way of making sense of these.
Also, if you look at the reviews, they are the same two reviews for both products
GoNz017
22 Apr 17 #111
Fair enough but that 36v is a bit of a beast even if it is a light model
If my 10.8v li is anything to go by it will do most people for a long long time and do any DIY jobs, I have abused mine for 5 years and it is only just starting to show signs of wear and I expect this is the bushes wearing out. the all metal planetary gearbox should outlast all other parts. The new models have a redesigned gearbox that can take more punishment.

I guess if you have one for work and chew through the batteries each day it would only last a couple of years.

The new EC range that is replacing all of these are great, my GOP EC 18v puts my old gop 10.8 to shame, I was holding out for one but caved in due to the price of this. :man:

Because it has got to the stage where the checkouts hit and miss and this usually means a lot of people will get a phone call saying they have no stock, I played the checkout game with the rotary sander and it arrived at the store the next day amazingly so it is a bit 50/50
Yep and GBH is the big SDS version, I wonder who gave it that name
GoNz017
22 Apr 17 #103
Yeah I see they seem to class the LI under a certain weight not capability as that 36v I mentioned comes with a 2ah battery, confuses the hell out of me as I thought it would be small batteries as the video explains you can put a bigger battery on if you need more capacity but then bosch sell the LI with the 4ah battery but that seems to be the limit for the LI series.
A lot of people seem to think they are going to be light duty but even my 10.8v made "light" work of a 24mm bosch wood bit into some real hardwood in my 90 year old house

Of course it will soon chew through the 1.5ah batteries doing work like that but at least I have 2 chargers so it can keep up if I ever need to push it.

I am aware it is light series, it says so on the product page, what I was saying is the LI in the product name is also on the heavy duty 36v kit, have a look here https://shop.bosch-professional.com/gb/en/products/combis--101307
dynamic series = 60 / 23 Nm light series 63 / 24 Nm, robust series = 85 / 47 Nm (a decent jump) and they are all 18v
the light has more balls than the dynamic just to confuse matters and then you get to the GSB 36 VE-2-LI Professional listed as heavy duty.

I would say I hope this clears things up but it just makes matters more bloody confusing with the Bosch naming schemes

Oh and my old 10.8v li is listed as heavy duty  yet it is the weakest of the lot!

Yes it is the GSB model. Couple this with the Bosch multipurpose drill bits and it will be a very capable hammer drill, no match for the Bosch GBH SDS drills though. I have gone through engineering bricks with the original 10.8v version of this and the multipurpose bits.

lilbeastie
22 Apr 17 1 #57
I think you'll get the GSB as that's in the title, plus it mentions blows per minute in the specs. They probably just used a stock photo and didn't realise the difference as it 'looks' the same as the GSR.

I'd be all over this if I had any real need for it as it's a great deal. Instead I've moved over to the excellent Bosch 10.8V tools for pretty much everything (as the small size and low weight means a lot less fatigue in use) with a backup 18V SDS for when the littler drillers can't cope. But this is an excellent deal for both DIY'ers and many tradespeople too.

For most people, 3 smaller batteries is better than 1 big one too, especially if you have 2 chargers. With only one battery you have to stop and recharge when it's depleted, but with multiple batteries you can charge while you carry on working.
Straycat1967
22 Apr 17 #55

Big discrepancy noticed - Are you getting a GSB OR GSR? The title on B&Q page says a GSB, but the photographs are of a GSR? Have I hot on something here or ? hmmmmmmmmmmmm
In fact some of the photo's when zoomed in show the GSR and some show the GSB, even more confused.

*Zoom in on the pictures, side of chasis you'll see the model number is different from that in the title!

Good deal but not a hammer drill though.

I do wish these manufacturers would standardise on batteries - I might have gone for this if the batteries were interchangeable with other tools I have.
g1hsg
22 Apr 17 1 #48
No. The Ah (Amp hour) rating refers to the amount of charge that the battery can hold and therefore the length of time that the battery can discharge at a given rate. The 'power' of the drill will be given in watts. Without going all techy and discussing EMF, terminal potential difference and internal resistance both the Bosch and Makita are cracking deals. The Bosch has a total of 4.5Ah worth of batteries which i would submit is overkill for 99.99% of home users.

I think Ah is just how long it lasts between charges, more Ah the longer you can go but it also probably means the recharge takes longer too, the battery packs will probably be larger and heavier too so there are pluses and minuses.

Thinking about it you can buy 3.0Ah battery's from screwfix separately for £50, you could pick up this for £65/70 depending how lucky you get and if you want more juice pick up a larger battery later.

Sorry for being a pain but at what point of the order do you put in a discount code?
gidsterc to humphrie5
22 Apr 17 #32
You need to do it BEFORE you go to the basket. It's found at the bottom of the page (there are 3 '+' symbols).

I know it is really counter-intuative...
Also you can use multiple codes (known as 'stacking').

Is this the GSB18-2-LI Plus? Because if it is, bosch bonus bang is offering £20 cashback.
Edit: i don't think it's the bonus bang drill.

This is a good deal, but I have migrated back to corded drills, on the basis that they are always ready to go, will hopefully still work in 10yrs time, and 99% of the work I do is within range of a power outlet with extension lead.
