Rather depends on your existing loft hatch dimensions I think. My rafters were too far apart so I had to install sistering pieces to them to reduce the width, and then cut out more ceiling back to new noggins to increase the length. My ladder was wooden though and perhaps this aluminium one is less demanding (the trick was to ensure that my new hatch way was perfectly square). Well pleased with the result though. We have a hatch that was built by previous owner & not so great DIYer. Strange size. Bigger than thus hatch size. And it opens upwards. Just a huge solid wood chunk!

Well there's no maximum size to the door, which you supply anyway. It's possible that you could use your existing one to hang downwards instead, having removed the jams that it now sits on. There's a good video on the link in my previous post, plus min/max dimensions for the location (note the strong point required at the power pivot point at 8.1 in the instructions. Good luck if you go ahead!
