Is the soundbar any good?

Surprised Argos have stock of the SH7, most retailers ended the offer in March. It's pretty decent and sits well with the TV.

I generally leave it on Standard mode with the wireless sub level reduced to -10 as it's too bass heavy. Cinema mode creates a wider sound image with better directional effects but it doesn't work well with certain programmes (e.g. quiz shows, soaps, the news), the lack of sound information seems to cause occasional fluctuations in speech volume.

Seriously tempted by this having waited for prices dropping since the run up to Xmas. Came close to pulling the trigger on an E6 from John Lewis last week but not sure I can justify the extra cost for an integrated sound bar I'll not use and 3D which is nice but is it £500 quids worth of nice?

Think this is the cheapest its been with the sound bar thrown in given the 10% code though my memory seems to recall a very small window when this might have been available at roughly the same price back in January with another discount. Like the poster above mentions, would be great with no sound bar with the net value knocked off the purchase price as most of us looking to invest in these tv's already own superior sound bars/speakers but I just can't see it happening having tracked these prices for quite some time now.

A quick check on ebay suggests that £100 - £150 should be achievable for offloading the sound bar so this may be the best option.

With the new models filtering through though there is potential for further drops but my gut feel is they'll be pretty minor for the first few months whilst the new models sell at RRP prices considering the relatively minor improvements.

Only thing that worries me is the 12 month only warranty...

On the plus side though, you'll get a tenner voucher!

They recently patched this to have lower gaming latency, it's still very high and I'd say if you're a gamer or using it as a Monitor then don't bother, I also think for tv it's not worth it. However if you're a movie buff then you cannot get a better tv for the price.

Just make sure you don't leave a still image On it, my Mum got one and every time I go round, there is so much burnt into the TVs that you notice when the image is all one colour.

Apparently it goes when you leave it off for awhile, but I dunno it bothers me.

I can understand it may not be for gaming or pic monitor - which I'm not particularly interested in, however, you're comment for tv it's not worth it? I think this is just the reason people would buy a Oled over edge lit LCD Also from other owners on here the burn retention issues are not founded so not sure what's different with your mothers.

Claiming might not be as slick?

That's an understatement.

If the retailer contests it, you will have to issue court proceedings against them. Most consumer breach of contract claims will be allocated to the small claims track, given the value, where only fixed costs are recoverable (therefore most people represent themselves).

If you're a lay person, with merely a Which? education on consumer rights law, good luck in trying to convince a court to rule in your favour when your 5.5 year old TV breaks down.

Would so love one of these tv's and think there amazing but after seeing the HDR screen on an s8 and then going to see a samsung HDR tv I'm all for the samsung.Reviews seem better and gaming refresh rate better but I still wouldn't turn my nose up at one of these simply breathtaking and a decent deal.
kpmatthews
14 Apr 17 #10
Court proceedings is an extreme scenario. I've never had to go to court - usually an engineer report is enough (the last one cost me £36 and the retailer refunded that and replaced the unit when the report found it had prematurely failed.) There's plenty of help available on consumer forums and it's not difficult to file a court claim IF it came to it.

Trying to claim under these regulations for a TV that broke after 5.5 years would be foolhardy, but no more than throwing a TV out if it broke after 13 months. My point is there are regulations to protect the consumer from faulty products for longer than the manufacturer's warranty. For me, if a £1500 TV broke within 4 years I'd be seeking some recompense, and there are tools available that allow average Joe to do this.

It is an issue, it goes away over time, but if you're displaying anything static... it sucks. For example my Mum likes to use the tv to stream the pic to, but the latency is too high for a mouse and it burns every icon into the tv. I notice it so much, but some people might not notice it as everyone is different. The Bloodborne logo is burnt into it as well and that has never gone away from when I played that game on the tv.

That's why I personally bought myself an LCD tv, the oled looks a lot better for movies as they tend to be dark and have black bars on the top and bottom. However if you're watching tv, there are no black bars and the quality is never great, it's not like watching a 4K blu-ray movie, where the oled excels.

I'm just not convinced of oled for a tv yet, I think that something else will come along before the issue are fixed. I'm going to guess local LCD dimming will come on so much in a couple years, that you won't be able to tell.

That's why I'd say buy this if you're a movie watcher, but anything else I wouldn't spend the money when LCD like what Samsung offer will give you a better experience apart from black levels.

If you look at this thread from avforums the question of screen burn is raised and they state there is no problem now so I'm puzzled by your observation: https://www.avforums.com/threads/lg-b6-oled55b6v-uhd-4k-tv-review-comments.2057838/page-7
The other problem with edge lit LCD's which I personal hate is screen bright spots and uniformity - you don't get that with Oled that's why my next tv will be Oled - but hey everyone to their own.

Its not 'extreme'; it's just the last resort. You're quite right to say that a strongly worded letter and/or objective expert evidence often does the job, however. But not always.

Well I've spent the last few hours trying to order this bleeding thing but no such luck. Problems started with my banks fraud protection team protecting me from placing an order. three phone calls later, I can now put an order through but the Argos stock allocation system does not know what is in stock and where! very frustrating! says its in stock, try to pay, lo and behold no stock. Try a different store. Same. 5 minutes later back in stock so rinse and repeat, same outcome.

Long and short of it I can't ruddy order one!

Come on Argos, take my money!!!

Well I've ordered this as it's the best price it's ever been and I don't want to miss out. So it's secured but I'm undecided.

I'm going to try and get Richard sounds to price match to get the 6 year warranty as it's a lot of money for only 12 months.

However, I'm torn between this and the dx902. I have a price match in JL for £1500 and it does 3D and has a better image but a restricted viewing angle.

I've ordered this too, wasn't obvious how to get the soundbar offer but got there in the end thanks to Andboy's helpful reply, cheers for that mate. I wonder if the soundbar is worth keeping or if I'm best selling it? I have it secured at least, now I'll see what John Lewis come back with regarding a price match as the 12 month warranty does concern me a little as I've heard that the blue pixels can become exhausted after a while and the colours look strange. Having said that, I've also heard that newer OLEDs have a much longer lifespan and that this is not as much of an issue for the likes of these sets so who knows!

Reply received from John Lewis re pricematch:

Thank you for your enquiry.

In order to apply a price reduction on a purchase, the criteria in our pricing policy must be met. I regret that after review the request you have submitted does not match all or parts of this policy.

In accordance with the Never Knowingly Undersold policy:

‘We do consider temporarily discounted prices, including any publicly available voucher codes that are published alongside the product at the point of purchase, or on the competitor’s website. We don’t consider special prices that are only available to certain customers, for instance negotiated prices or prices for groups such as account holders, reward card or club members. We don’t consider prices that are only available through third-party websites, or with voucher codes issued to individual customers or groups.’

As the voucher code ‘TVSAVE’ that reduces the first quoted price from £1,699.00 to £1,529.10 is not published on the competitor’s website, we unfortunately cannot take this into account. Therefore, we regrettably cannot match the price of £1,529.10 in this instance. If you would like to read more on our Never Knowingly Undersold Policy, you can do so by clicking on the following link: https://www.johnlewis.com/inspiration-and-advice/never-knowingly-undersold-policy.

I apologise we have not been able to process a price reduction on this occasion. If you require any further assistance do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

If you're spending this much on a TV, why would you need a sound bar when surely you'd be attaching the TV to a 5.1 or 7.1 sound system?! Still, it's good to see that large OLED TVs are slowly moving to the "magic" 1,000 pounds price point, at which point I might finally consider replacing my Panasonic 50" plasma...

Seems like Currys should price match according to their wording:

"Voucher-match terms and conditions

I'm not sure if this will work but I've reserved the TV and soundbar at my local Currys and will collect tomorrow providing they honour the price match. I've just had Currys price match this as I bought this last Wednesday. I didn't try to quibble about the sound bar as I don't want it (or the hassle of selling it on), but I still have my 5 year guarantee, which I prefer anyway.

Took it down to the £1529.10 (on top of the £11.80 through Quidco).

For what it's worth, been playing on PS4 & PC through it and not even really noticed any input lag. Tried Horizon Zero Dawn, Fifa 17, Rocket League, Spelunky and Crypt of the NecroDancer. The last is a rhythm game which I was able to play fine without any audio/video lag adjustments like there were in things like Rock Band.

I asked at my local Currys and the manager said he'd match the sound bar, but because the deal "TVSAVE" isn't advertised anywhere on Argos site he said that "the code on HotUKDeals" (I'd not mentioned it!) was a glitch on Argos site and not valid.
I cannot find this code advertised, so I have to go with that judgement.

I got Currys to price match this without the soundbar instore (Bromborough) but it was a struggle. They refused at first as it says delivery only on the Argos site (not sure why that matters, something about it coming from the manufacturer and not from Argos). I told them I'd already purchased it from my local Argos and that I was on my way to collect it unless they could match the deal. After about 20 minutes of them calling head office they agreed to match without the soundbar but with the 5 year warranty which I agreed to. So happy I did that now, I have it set up and it's stunning!

Depends what you will spend your time watching but I would be tempted to avoid the demos and trr to watch a broadcast signal as well as a few DVDs. I would have expected the LG to outshine the Sony in darker scenes and would expect the LG to have more life like colours in daylight scenes.

I had the KS7000 and 8000 side by side with a friend who works for richer sounds - there's not a noticeable difference between the two, not enough to justify the extra £. Only thing to consider between those two is the stand, the 7000 has feet at the edges rather than central so you need a wide Tv unit (unless wall mounting it's something worth considering).

Get a 7000 from with a warranty, you'll love it but we both know you'll always be thinking of Oled

Don't worry about the extra ms on input lag between the Samsung and LG, unless your a truly competitive gamer, you won't care.

Sitting in front of the TV, wanting bang for buck - Samsung and have some spare change to pick up a pair of Sennheiser game zeros or ones

Sitting at an angle, or might watch dark scene movies with people sat in the same room at difo angles. - Oled.

I'm an owner of a 55" KS7000 I've had since just before xmas. I have to say for motion blur , judder and ghosting it's the worst set I've ever had. I've always had Samsung LCD and led tvs. I'm normally used to a 40" screen so I'm not sure I can notice more because of the size. the other thing is the brightness. I can't stand the backlight on anymore than 3. if I put it up to 20 it feels like my eye sockets are going to burn out lol. backlight set at 20 for PS4 pro hdr gaming is OK but for TV content ie SD and HD the brightness is just blinding. I've been so dissapointed with the KS7000 I've currently got it up for sale. in the meantime I've bought an LG e6.maby I'm too sensitive to led technology so I've decided on oled. I'm yet to set it up as I came away on holiday the day it arrived. I'll be setting it up tomorrow when home. just hope it's allot better than the Samsung. with the oled creating the light organically as such I'm hoping it's an allot more pleasant experience

Dear Mr Boyd,

Thank you for your email dated 15th April 2017. I would like to have discussed this further over the telephone, however, there was no response on the number we hold for you.

I note your request for a price match for your television. Our terms and conditions state that the price match cannot be used with any other offer. Our records show that you had a £100.00 discount when placing your order. We are therefore unable to offer a further discount.

Although this may not be the outcome for which you were hoping, I trust that this response clearly explains our position on this matter.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us and please accept my apologies that I was unable to assist you on this occasion.

Kind regards,

setup the e6 yesterday. all I can say is wow. it's much easier on the eye than my KS7000. the Samsung does show more detail in 4K hdr due to the extra brightness but at the cost of a washed out picture. I'm dissapointed the e6 screen is just stuck onto the glass though. I was hoping it was integrated. never mind. that's me not buying tvs for at least a good few years now I hope as I'm now skint lol. I've decided on keeping the KS7000 also. I'll mainly use it for gaming as the extra brightness does help the hdr pop more with the extra detail I must admit

The only problem I have found with sound bars is that they do not have the dedicated centre speaker you find in 5.1 surround sound so when playing blur-ray etc you can't hear dialogue very well. Not sure if there is a sound bar that has this feature perhaps someone can comment on this?

That code has expired. Only TV related code I'm aware of is the £100 for over £1499.

TV10 was active as of a couple of hours ago when I bought the TV: -

My apologies, I thought this was the Currys deal and they had the same code which has expired - it tells you if you try to use it. That code is still active on Argos.

Love these deals, was on at John Lewis as well, not that i wanted the tv, but meant i could pick up a brand new sh7 soundbar for £130 on gumtree with the JL warranty included.... works very well paired with my echo dot

I am awaiting the 55 inch LG with the free SH7 soundbar, still to be delivered due to the couriers fire in Worcester! But I believe that I am only being sent one parcel. Can anyone please confirm whether the soundbar in the bundle comes in a separate box? Thanks.
