Broke my Klipsch One headphones at the weekend and needed a replacement. These aren't listed as a Best Buy on What Hi-Fi but won the 2016 award with 5 stars. The K72s are a Best Buy because they were cheaper at the time, but both are currently the same price on Amazon at the moment.
Lowest price they've ever been according to Camel3.
Hopefully they sound good!

Closed are better for louder environments or to keep people from hearing what you're listening to. They lack soundstage in comparison but generally have better bass by design.
Open are the opposite here, they aren't good for loud environments as there's barely any isolation, and if you have someone in the room with you, they would most likely hear everything at good volumes. They usually have good soundstage and worse bass, by design.
There are semi-open or semi-closed but lets not get into that.
It's not a perfect rundown of the pro's and con's but it's the general differences. There are caveats but Google will answer those

AKG Y50 at £49 @Superfi or £39 @ Richersounds instore only
Nice sound but not very loud with portable devices so test before you buy.
Best cans around £50
I have these - bought them for £33, which is a bargain!
They're very neutral, and pick up details very well.
Very honest, so pending your choice in music, or quality of source, you'll either be pleased or disappointed. They won't give you bags of slam or weighty bass, likewise, they won't give you searing highs and width.
They'll just play the music in an unassuming fashion.
They are very comfy though, lightweight, with soft ear pads

Mine arrived today, very comfortable and excellent sound.
Wore them when I walked home from work and didn't get any strange looks, although the cable is far too long for that.

Hardly a massive saving is it? They've been about £45 or less for more than six months. Not sure why £6 off has gained so much heat.

Whether the back side of the speaker is sealed. Open leaks sound to everyone around but gives better quality. Closed doesn't leak so is better for offices and whatnot, in fact I'm wearing closed ones in the office now.
*edit* These or my current Sennheiser HD 215s?

For anyone, like me, that was wondering (as it's not the easiest thing to find in the listing) - these come with a 3.5mm jack on the cable and a quarter-inch adaptor in the box.

Heat from me, I'd definitely be buying a pair if they were a little smaller and more portable. Desperately in need of a new pair before I go on holiday.

I wouldn't say closed have better base, rather they have more and it can sometimes be a little overblown. TBH unless you have a reason to go with closed, I'd always pick open back. They sound much more natural.

18 Apr 171#6
It means they are effectively sealed to outside noise. So if you are listening in public these will be better than open back, plus everyone else won't have to suffer your choice of music

These aren't as silent as other closed back headphones. Mine leak a fair amount of sound. Highly recommended though, great sound quality. I use mine in the home and the AKG 451s out and about.

Don't get me wrong, they do sound good for the price (£50 at Superfi) but the volume does need to be cranked up to 80 - 90 % . May stop me going deaf I suppose

I have a pair, and I like them well enough. Previously had a pair of Sennheiser HD 202s - I wouldn't say they differ much in terms of sound quality or comfort. The K92's feel sturdier though.
The K92s are quite big mind, and with the gold bits, they're not very subtle. I only use mine at home, but maybe something to bear in mind in case you don't want to stand out if you're wearing them out and about...
It is indeed, but Tunes were as famous, if not more so, for 'funny voice' ads.

Yes. With open you can get away with velour pads for comfort and breathability. You don't want to do that with closed usually as the isolation is effected.
