Just to confirm that isn't the rating btw; it gets 4/5 on TripAdvisor. That 2* is Thomas Cooks star rating and I've stayed in plenty 2* places and they have varied from 'decent enough, can't grumble' to 'OK, wow, this is excellent'. Just don't go there expecting the Hotel President Wilson in Geneva and go there thinking you've got a base with a TV and WiFi with a pool and a bar (and that's all I want from my 'base' as I'm out enjoying my holiday and the island). But yeah, as it's Laganas district it will attract the younger end (but maybe not as many in May).

Admire people who can just lay on a beach for 14 days straight, I am always bored after an hour.
Girlfriend is not happy about this though.

Went for 2 weeks in 2008, luckily we were far enough away and was accommodation was quite decent but you seriously have to have your wits about you at times when you venture down that way.
We did 'the strip' a few nights, needless to say, Brits of a certain age do themselves no favours.
I would say its the least Greek resort in Greece I've been to.
Going to Zante again this year but up near Keri, away from most things, in a villa...perfect for me.
If you're wanting a resort with a bit of nightlife, Tsilivi is pretty good for that. Plus the Alexandra Hotel Beach Party every week is a good night.

Yes, and let's not forget about the little eastern european/albanian kids who are out working at 5am in the morning trying to rob drunk tourists.
You get what you pay for!

Would not recommend Laganas. Avoid it like the plague.
If you do go, here are a few things to know:
- A lot of the strip is run by eastern european gangsters who will put you in risk for money.
- There are no public hospitals, so make sure you have good health insurance.
- Thomas Cook reps heavily pressure you into overspending on events and convincing you that if you don't buy from them, you won't be able to get a ticket etc.
- Thomas Cook reps are useless kids who are there to party and make money out of you.
- The area is full off wayward kids and irresponsible young adults making use of the low cost.
One such eastern european front, Xcite bar, left a girl blind as many of the bars sell ethanol as vodka etc (https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/1723412/brit-girl-blinded-by-drink-laced-with-highly-toxic-methanol-on-holiday-in-zante/). This bar and others have also been known to drug you. The way it works is a bar will attract you in with cheap prices, spike you and then call an ambulance. The private hospital will pay commission to the bar. Please make sure you ask the hotel for bar recommendations.
It's a shame with how the place is run, the police are corrupt and in pay of the local gangsters. The beach itself is nice, the locals are friendly, good food and you have all the turtle stuff. BUT the nightlife is toxic and honestly dangerous to people looking to enjoy themselves.
I won't even go on about the casual racism, sexism and incompetence of thomas cook reps.

Cannot disagree with any of this, also the guys running the horse and carts are all Eastern Europeans and will fleece you if you're not careful.
Majority of the restaurants on the strip are also not Greek owned, avoid these like the plague. They are easy to spot though.

PS Laganas can be pretty grim unless you're 18-25 and in a group.
Yobbo's on tour springs to mind, ok if you're after that kind of thing.
Would guess this time of year will be pretty quiet as the season has just started.

lActually it really isn't that great a hotel. stayed there last year and booked with Thomas Cook - check and check again with them if you get a luggage allowance as we were screwed over. The hotel was quite grubby. You need to keep on asking for things all the time. Yes, it's on the outskirts of Laganas and it's 30 mins walk to the town centre. Don't bother paying for a transfer - it's only a 10 min coach ride - pay for a cab, it's a lot cheaper. I would advise that the lucky guest brings with them loads of mozzie spray - we were there for only a week and got nibbled so badly.

2 out of 5 'stars' - but cheap as chips, expect the worse and hopefully come away happy, is my advice.
However definitly not one for the elderly or infirm, not worth any unpleasant surprises.

True, but it is far enough away from the main area of Laganas and there's plenty to do on Zakynthos and within easy distance of anywhere on the island really (with it being a small island)
