This deal is based on 3 adults flying out to Las Vegas from London Gatwick on 27th November 2017 and returning 7th December 2017.

Itinerary

27th - 30th November - Las Vegas
1st December - Grand Canyon South Rim
2nd - 3rd December - Phoenix
4th - 7th December - LA

This holiday does include a fair amount of driving so if you don't feel comfortable driving long distances this trip may not be for you. Flying is also an option but this costs considerably more.

All hotels include free parking and have great reviews on TripAdvisor.

This is just an idea of an itinerary, if you would like to spend longer in another place or cut out places it is easily done.

27th November - Arrive into Vegas at 1600, hop into a taxi to Excalibur which should only take 10 minutes and cost around $10-$15 max. You will be staying in the Excalibur for 3 nights and it is located on the Strip opposite NewYorkNewYork and MGM.

28th - 29th - Enjoy Las Vegas

30th - Spend the day enjoying Vegas and in the evening grab a taxi back to the airport where you will pick up the car. I've chosen Europcar as they're a reliable company.
Spend the evening driving 4 hours to Flagstaff where you will spend the night in the Highland Country Inn which has amazing reviews on TripAdvisor.

1st December - Drive just over an hour north to Grand Canyon National Park South Rim which is by far the best view of the Grand Canyon. Spend the day here enjoying the sites of the Canyon.
Drive just over 3 hours south to Phoenix where you will be spending 2 nights in the TownePlace Suites by Marriott.

2nd - Spend the day exploring one of the many the beautiful national parks around Phoenix or the city itself.

3rd - Carry on exploring the beautiful parks of Phoenix. In the evening set off to Palm Desert where you will spend the night. It is a 4 hour drive here, if you prefer you can head straight into LA however I chose to stay here as it breaks up the drive. I've chosen the Holiday Inn Express which includes continental breakfast.

4th - Continue the drive to LA, it will take another 2 hours which will take you directly to you the hotel. I've chosen the Best Western Plus Hollywood Hills which is in the heart of Hollywood. As you have the car you have the freedom to explore everywhere and hit the beautiful beaches.

5th - 6th - Enjoy Hollywood, LA, Santa Monica and the many studio tours and theme parks this area has to offer.

7th - The flight from Las Vegas leave at 1700 so you want to leave Hollywood pretty handy at is around a 4 hour drive back to Vegas.

Hotels in Las Vegas and LA have resort fee you must pay, for both it is around $120 for 3 people which is paid upon arrival.

I have included a 20kg bag each for the trip however if you don't need much or if you don't fancy shopping you are entitled to a 10kg hand baggage and personal item. If you choose not to take any luggage it knocks £50 each off the price.

Grand canyon and phoenix?! seriously?!
Who would spend money to fly across oceans to visit these two places?

Oh, I did,
simply because I have relatives living in Phoenix.

Grand Canyon is definitely worth seeing. I spent 80 days in the States and the Grand Canyon was one of the best things I saw. We only had two nights there, first day we had our helicopter flight over, then we got to watch the sunset. Got up early to watch the sunrise, then did a walk to the bottom which took 2hrs, was 28C at 5.45am at the top by 9am, it was 46 degrees and took 7hrs to get back to the top. How anyone can say its not worth seeing, doesn't respect nature and beauty

terrible itinerary.
Arriving at 4pm is about midnight in the UK, so throw in some time to adjust.

You can do Grand Canyon South Rim (along with stopping off at the Hoover Dam) in a day driving there & back (or take a coach trip). Or do Hoover Dam, Lake Mead & North Rim in one day & carry on to South Rim & back on day 2.

After a few stops along the sightseeing route you get bored as its just rocks & they end up looking the same.

By the time you go to Phoenix (whats the point?) & LA its prob not worth the hassle of getting back to Vegas, may as well fly back from LA.

Not trying to kill the deal but just a word of caution.
Last week my friend was to fly to Miami for one week holiday and got an E-Mail from USA homeland security that his ESTA visa was revoked and would not be allowed to enter the USA.

He received the notice only 30 hours before he was to fly.

He E-Mailed them to ask the reason and was told they do not give reasons for any refusals.

Luckily he had Insurance and managed to get all his money back but the £ 50.00 excess

Its basically a very good deal, one of my favourite areas of world travel heat added. :stuck_out_tongue: Only thing I would change is an extra trip from Vegas to Bryce Canyon 250 miles (3 hours 50 mins drive) north, arguably the best national park of the lot.
By far the best bit of the USA.

12 Apr 17 #36
Sorry but that's an awful trip. Vegas and the Grand Canyon are worth seeing, but I've never met anyone who had a good word to say about LA. There's nothing there to see, just terrible roads. And who in their right mind would visit Phoenix? It would be ridiculous to go to those two places over San Francisco. It's an awful lot of very dull driving for such a short trip. Driving through the desert in a Toyota is hardly comparable to cruising down the coast in a convertible.

And December? And three adults all sharing one room? These are cheap tricks to make it seem like a better deal. No one is actually going to book this so I'm not sure why it's getting heat.

For a much better trip, fly to San Francisco, spend five nights there, then fly to Vegas for five nights (a short and dirt-cheap flight), paying for a tour of the Grand Canyon (via plane, unless you want to spend 16 hours on a coach).

No need to hire a car!

Have you done the driving trip between LA and Las Vegas? I think Not! I have several times and there are lots of places to visit on the way. I think you should book an all inclusive holiday for at least twice the price in San Francisco and you will meet people on a similar wavelength to yourself !!! . Can you provide costings for your trip so as to compare it is better value for money.

I did this route a few years back and it was the best holiday I've had in a long time: Vegas (whilst there visit Grand Canyon on a day tour) - hired Mustang (softtop is essential on a road trip like this) - Death Valley - Yosemite (the most stunning place I've ever visited) - San Fran - LA - San Diego (good driving from north to south as you hug the coastal road and can quickly stop)

I have & I agree with the original poster. Its not a good itinerary.
For Starters, there will be no chance to stop at lots of places to visit on the way, as you a 5pm flight to catch.
That means being in the airport by at least 3pm, throw in the 5hr drive..
Might have time to stop for lunch - but thats about it.
Just leave out LA, its not worth the hassle of the trip. Especially for 2 days.
Just spend the time in & around vegas. Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, West Rim of the Canyon, Death Valley, Red Rock Canyon, as well as old downtown vegas - which is much better than the strip vegas imo.

I agree with you as well, another way to do this trip which I think is the best value and most interesting part of the USA (their parks are some of the best in the world) is to go for at least three weeks car hire maybe in and out of LA, Las Vegas.
It does say "This is just an idea of an itinerary, if you would like to spend longer in another place or cut out places it is easily done." in the post though. I personally cant see the point of Pheonix either. There must be a dozen interesting place on the route around Las vegas alone.

The prices for trips like this are always pretty pointless. No one is going to actually go on this trip - a specific departure airport, three adults sharing a room, December... So no I'm not going to price it up. I bet it works out a bit more expensive, but it's a much nicer holiday.

Was worth the experience, its definitely not for everyone tho. The route we did had a shelter and clean water every 1.5 miles. There were 4 of us and i was the shortest so lagging behind. Got to the 2nd shelter and decided id have some food, and wait there for the others to return as i was just knackered. After 10mins i decided to try and catch up. Got to the bottom and could hear the others discussing with one of the park rangers whether to go towards the river. Park ranger was advising us not to as there is not shelter and there stopping people coming down who aren't properly prepared. Then we made our 7hr journey back and it was very tough. I had 3 water bottles on me and I'd run out before i got to each shelter, we'd have a long rest at those, wetting stuff to put over our heads. You'd literally walk a very slow 100m and find some shade, and rest. Met another park ranger who told us how a healthy 30yr old man with plenty of water and the right food, died the week before, nice of them to scare us. Ran out of food but met some people along the way who had plenty and shared some which was nice. Was worth it, even the days later where we could barely walk properly round Vegas

Three hours to drive from the Grand Canyon to Phoenix? You'd have to drive very fast and you'd miss some of the most amazing scenery if you did that. Personally, I'd rather stay north of Phoenix and explore that area, Sedona and Jerome for example, and avoid the big city of Phoenix.

13 Apr 17 #69
I'd agree with those who've suggested the Phoenix leg might be less desirable than more time spent in the "Desert Southwest". Highlights in that area other than the Grand Canyon are Monument Valley, Lake Powell / Antelope Canyon, Moab / Arches NP / Canyonlands NP - possibly doing the Grand Circle to include Bryce Canyon NP and Zion NP. Those with plenty of time can include Death Valley and Yosemite as others have suggested. It's possible to have a great Holliday doing a circle from Las Vegas - even if you aren't a gambler.

Why all the negative comments towards OP for this?

I have just came back from a similar trip, however I started in LA - San Diego - Phoenix - Grand Canyon - Page - Moab (Arches + Canyon Lands) - Grand Junction - Zion - Vegas.

Granted I had much more time. If you want more of a scenic route, I would defiantly check out southern Utah - The national parks are amazing.

It really depends if you want to see cities or scenery!

Oh dear! Nightmare. Can't beat that story but a friend of mine who was well aware of the need for ESTA travel authorization left it until a couple of days before his holiday to submit his application thinking there wouldn't be a problem, only for it to be denied for reasons unknown (they never tell you why). By then, it was also too late to apply for a non-immigrant visa instead so he just couldn't go. He admits he was daft to leave it so late as ESTA e-pass authorization is valid for two years anyway so should probably be the first thing anyone does even before booking their flights.
