I've seen this before with other people previously this year so decided to test it.
Kept checking everyday to see if 12 months live reduced and low and behold with just 3 days remaining, I'm offered a chance to renew 12 months for just £26.50....
Please note if you do try this that it does set you up for a 12 month subscription renewal at £39.99 but that can be cancelled very easily via web or in console management settings.

Worked for me today, my xb gold expires in 1 month.
When i followed the dashboard link it tried to get me to renew 1 month at £5.99, I had to go back and change the 1 month option to 12 months then click renew (actually i think it was called extend) and I got the £26.50 price.

As I have previously said on a similar thread whether you get offered it or not upon expiry is all down to chance. I had a conversation with a microsoft chat agent to confirm this.
I believe that this random selection that takes place refreshes periodically (daily or weekly I would imagine) and eventually you should get offered it, but the real question is how long are you willing to wait without Gold if you don't get a deal straight away?

Only offer I am getting is £1 for 1 month which, when you click to redeem says £5.99!

My dashboard on Xbox is offering the 'exclusive discount' but when I click through it takes me on to the usual renewal page and wants to charge me 39.99. I didn't have a payment method on my account before but I have just added my paypal details but it has made no difference. I previously renewed by a prepaid card but the offer is there so I don't understand why it is not working. Has anyone got any suggestions? Thanks

I have a feeling they're pushing subscriptions here, hence the auto-renew and discounted first year. Obviously a subscription model doesn't work with Xbox credit.

You have to click on buy and get to the credit card page after logging in, then the price changes. Just make sure it changes before you click 'confirm', that's when the money goes out of your account.

All it means is that it will renew at the standard rate of £39.99 when your subscription runs out, basically buying this turns on auto renew but you can easily turn it back off again in your account. It shouldn't stop you buying another year at this price while the deal is still live.
Anyone having trouble would advise using Edge as I find the Xbox / Microsoft sites perform very poorly on Chrome, often just displaying a grey box or timing out when I try to purchase something, not sure whether it's my set up, or being Microsoft they deliberately make it awkward to use on non-Microsoft browsers....

I also get redirects to the US store, even though the Join Live is set for UK. So annoying. And then setting the store to UK, takes it to top level.

£26.50 on the front page, stacked quite nicely so my subscription now expires November 2018. However it also charged me £26.66. That was a payment by credit card in GBP, so not sure where the extra money comes from.

Spoke to them on live chat, apparently it's tax on the subscription that's not mentioned anywhere under their T&C's. Only 16p I guess...
"As per our chat today the reason you got charged for that amount is because it's for the Tax on the Subscription that you have purchased for Xbox Live."

Whilst I do agree, this particular one seems to work for most people, so give it a go. But yes, as with most things the offers are set up for new business not to retain business. Car insurance is another one, I've yet to stay with an insurer for two years in a row purely because they're never competitive on renewal.

23 Mar 171#25
Sorry but these dashboard Xbox Live deals really annoy me as they are so targeted and seem dependant upon your membership being extremely close to expired so only the disorganised (or those not bothered about having Gold) benefit. The existing loyal customers that like to keep their membership topped up get shafted with full price.
Wish if they wanted to do a promotion on gold membership they would just give it to everyone regardless of the amount left on their sub.
Like most of these heavily targeted deals, nice if you can get it, but the problem is most can't....
