Just spoke to customer services who said the Fifa/COD/Res7 free game only applies to a purchase of a console only and should not be applied if you are already benefitting from another offer, for example the Horizon/extra controller bundle. Only one offer per purchase.

Nah mate, that staff member lied to you. Probably because it's a hassle to explain what's actually happening.

The FIFA/COD/RE7 is a free game for every purchase of a PS4. I'm guessing that it's meant to exclude bundles, but they haven't programmed their system correctly so it still pops up as a free gift (£0.00) when someone buys a bundle. It doesn't conflict until they get to the final payment screen and suddenly the free gift costs £40+. Until head office fix that issue, or clarify it for their staff, it's at the manager's discretion whether to give the game for free or not. Some are choosing to give it, some are refusing.

Do what I did. Take your receipt to another store and get your free game.

Picked my Argos deal up in Stockport at the weekend. When the member of staff put through the reservation code for the PS4 I saw the list of Fifa / C.O.D. / Res7 pop up on his screen but he didn't mention it. I asked what it was and he said it they were add ons they could offer to add to the deal, but then laughed and said paid for add ons, not for free!

Seemed pretty clued up, looks like lots of people have been served by incompetent staff and snagged an extra free game, which is why the price goes up each time this game is added, and it had to manually overridden to get the price back down to £199.99

If you decide to sell the game, I'd be interested mate.

Update to this for anyone interested:

I went into another Argos nearby with my receipt and told them about the extra game that I didn't get. They looked up the offer on their system and asked which one I wanted. It was really easy and friendly. Took five minutes.

So in total I got a White PS4, Horizon Zero Dawn, FIFA 17 and a gold controller, all for £189 (the media code went through no problem).

I think people were perhaps ordering as I was going through the checkout combinations.

Ordered the bundle from Game for £229.99. Has the limited edition Horizon Dawn, 500gb Slim, extra controller, 3-months Playstation plus, 2 months NOW TV.

I checked eBay and should easily get £100 for the game, controller, NOW TV, and Playstation plus. If I get lucky could be closer to £150.

It depends on the store itself, if the game is sealed you might have a chance of changing it. But only if it's part of the offer. If it is still sealed you can take it and tell them it was a birthday present so you don't have a receipt. If the game is open you might have a harder time, same goes for the controller. Pretter sure they have a no quibble exchange though, not 100% sure.

I happened to be served by the manager, so like people have been saying you may just need a not so experienced person... just keep an eye out for a manager and try to avoid them if you can and your chances of the tenner off may be heightened

I got charged for Horizon when I took Resident Evil - didn't reside until I got home, been back today to flutter my eye lashes at the manager but it's either keep it as it is or return Resi and get a refund, which is what I'll be doing.

This looks like a great deal. Stock seems very low but you should be able to get the bundle if your not too fussed about the colour of the free controller. I wanted an extra white one but had to go for red as the white was sold out in every store anywhere near where I live.

Just bagged a White PS4, black controller and Horizon Zero Dawn at Braintree store. Keep an eye on the stock - it seems to be OOS then coming back into stock a few hours later (perhaps people cancelling orders?).

I've just cancelled an order at Chelmsford Chelmer Village for White PS4, black controller and Uncharted 4 so perhaps someone else can take that.

I asked about it both times and they said I could have it only instead of the pads but otherwise no chance so it's likely that mistakes have been made elsewhere if these claims of extra FIFA17 game are true at all!

Since folks are still a bit unsure about the media code and the "free game" I can clarify for you.

Argos staff are meant to see the actual voucher/email (I don't know what it's meant to be) to give you the £10 discount. However, if the member of staff is non the wiser or just very generous, they will give you the discount.

The "free game" does indeed come up on their system and is either FIFA 17, COD or Resi 7. Unfortunately when added to the basket it screws up your bundle promo and ends up at about 240 odd pounds. Again the only way you're getting this is if the member of staff manually overrides because they're incredibly generous or not too sharp.

Be nice to the staff, don't be pushy citing examples of others that have received the discount and extra game. They don't have to give you either but perhaps you'll get one or both if you're lucky.

I don't know what happened with my order can someone help with this please... Reserved a bundle (console, controller, game) at £199. Media code was used for £10 off and accepted and were told that we were eligible for a free prize? so my girlfriend chose Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. This came to a total of £219. The only way this makes sense is if I was charged 229 instead of of 189 or if I was charged for the extra game (call of duty). Does anyone know what the extra free game is about or was it an accident and two 'free' games were added so i got charged for the second?

I reserved on click and collect also. I just collected my controller and game. The console will be ready on Saturday. I asked customer service how everything will work as I was charged the normal price for the game and pad, they said they will sort it out when I come to collect the console. Just have to make sure to let them know before paying that it is part of a bundle. Also I thought that I might as well try the media code and it took £7 off, hopefully I can try it again when I collect the console!

In regards to extending the reservation for click and collect I don't think they let you from what they were saying to me but I didn't probe it much. Might be best to try call up the store or something and see what they can do or just go in.

Not trolling, it seems to be on a case by case basis with some getting a lot and some getting nothing. I made a point to myself not to push or ask anything except 3 things.

I think I was incredibly lucky to run into a amicable sales guy. He was interested in video games too so I wasnt aggressivly asking and made a nice rapport before checkout. I was not going to push for a free game if he didn't want to, just be nice, ask only once in passing, let him do his thing and cross your fingers

I just went to pick up my reservation and lady at the till told me you can get a free game with my PS4. When she added Fifa 17, it jumped the price up to something like £234 and I showed her my reservation email quoting £199.99.

She then kindly added Fifa 17 for free! So all in all, I got PS4 500GB, Extra DS4, Horizon Zero, Fifa 17 for £199.99. I didn't even bother with the £10 Media Code at this point, I just accepted it before it was too late. Maybe it is worth trying to add the free game and you might get someone to add it on for free!

Edit: Some have successfully got Fifa and £10 Media Code off, so worth a try.

I had a PS4 not long after launch and sold it a year ago. I just didn't get into it at all. Xbox exclusives are a bit boring too if I'm honest, it's the multi platform stuff that interests me more (GTA, Fallout).

The game is available to collect now but the console & controller is in 5 days. The reservation for the game will expire before the other items are ready, so do I pay full price on the game & the balance on collection of the other 2 parts?
