Spent a week using mine as my main pair and despite my earlier enthusiasm fell way out of love with them. Noticed distortion with vocals which I'd previously written off as something burning in would fix. But it didn't. Also as I listened to a wider range of music their shortcomings became more and more apparent.
I think I'd been trying to convince myself that I liked them purely because in relative terms they are a bargain and they are in purely tactile terms, lovely.
But the sound just didn't improve any further and as above I noticed more and more issues as i moved through genres of music. I could have played around with the EQ further but to be honest, they just didn't seem worth the effort.
So I cancelled my XL pads and returned the V-Moda's to Amazon.
Already have the Sony MDR-1ABT so had a look and found a set of Sony MDR-1A used like new on Amazon and grabbed them for roughly the price of the V-Moda and XL pads. Absolutely delighted with them. No EQ necessary and they're amazingly comfy out the box.
Granted, build quality isn't as good and I do miss that lovely, compact little case the V-Moda came with.

Got the XL pads from absolutesounds today.
BTW absolute gave me a phone call which was good customer service.
Must use them again in the future.

I thought the XL would be thicker than they are but they still make a difference in fit.
The cans fit more level on my small head with less pressure on the bottom of the cup.

It does take some force taking off the originals and i have ripped both of them but they could be glued onto theplastic frame.

I found that my eq-ing didn't really work out and about, ironically made the headphones sound completely lifeless. Switched it off and they sound pretty good (as long as I'm outdoors/commuting!), bizarre...
One thing I have taken from these though is that burning in does make a difference. I'd never been sure with previous headphones if it was actually making a difference or just my ears adjusting through daily use. I haven't been using these daily but have been running them in, and when I do go to use them there is a slight but noticeable difference.
I'm keeping mine. They're not the best sounding headphones but there's just some intangible quality they have that makes me really like them. They'll do as a spare pair for holidays/travelling.
Ordered a set of xl pads which should lick the comfort issue.

22 Mar 17 #94
If they're heavily eq'd they seem pretty good, until I try any of my other headphones, I'm just not impressed.
They'd be decent for commuting if it weren't for the ported design (no way are these isolating, as they claim!) but my biggest problem is comfort - I just can't wear them longer than an hour tops.
So... These probably won't be staying with me.
fwestivus

Oops - sorry for the slow reply. Yeah just electrical tape over them. Apparently surgical tape might be better because it's slightly porous...

So what's the opinion on these after a few days? Gotta say I was on the verge of returning them yesterday. They were just too murky-sounding to enjoy listening to some of my tunes, but sounded great with others. Seemed difficult to justify them if only ~50% of tunes sounded good. Velvet Revolver sounded horrific, but Chemical Brothers sounded great. Decided though to have a play around with my phones eq and after some (admittedly aggresive) Eq-ing they actually sound pretty decent now. Listening to Velvet Revolver again and that murkiness is no longer as apparent, they sound 'fun'.
Bearing that in mind, plus the sheer physical quality of them and the accessories, I reckon they're keepers now.

Interesting I thought they were for decoration.

What did you use to block them btw?
Black tape?

Mine just arrived. Great packing, and I'm pleasantly surprised by the sound. Much nicer than I'd expected with the bass focus.
They are very bassy, though. Closing up the V-shaped vents on the back helps, and there are two small rectangular ones below the drivers under the ear pads. I need to have a fiddle so see what works best.

the detail sounds great to me ? just listening to Ladytron and I can hear a male vocal underneath the main vocal that I never noticed before! sounds brilliant!

Mine arrived today, packaging and build quality are top notch and for £60 a steal.

Half expected to be sending them back as I prefer detail over bass, but I was pleasantly surprised on how good they sounded. Granted, not the most detailed but all the sounds were there and I did not think the bass too overpowering.
With the bigger earcups and some run in time the sound should open even more.

As you can probably tell, these are not going back!

7 Mar 17 1 #86
Got mine today and the bass guitar on pat benatars seven the hard way off vinyl is prominent .
Drums are not too prominent.
The rest of the sound does take a little bit of a step back in comparison to the bass guitar but its not as bad as i feared.

Will order the bigger cups to see if i can lower the bass guitar in the mix.

Build quality: nice cable that has twine around should make it less sticky to clothes and more durable overall.
Nice comfortable padded head band.
My ears fit inside the cups easily adding to the isolation

7 Mar 17 1 #85
Anyone got theirs. What's your opinions?.
Received mine today very good for £60 but base is more than I'm used to. Will pass them onto my game fanatic g/son if I can't get used to them. A great deal I think. Many thanks yoyelp.
StuartHDUK
7 Mar 17 #84
Mine have certainly improved as they've been used more.

My main dislike is the mid bass can seem a bit overblown from an SQ POV.

However, if you play some EDM, R&B, Hip Hop etc - they excel!

As they've softened, I've learnt to enjoy their sound a bit more - definitely not a revealing headphone, more of a smooth and powerful listen, but for £60 - £80, I think they're a steal!

I've ordered the XL pads, as I think the small cups and high clamp force are making it sound the way it does.

Bigger cups should reduce the bass volume and increase space and tonality.

£16 from http://www.gear4music.com

Should be with me for 20th March - I'll keep you posted

7 Mar 17 #81
These are more about the base, as stated in most reviews etc.... but it's all about personal preference.
Not to mention will you get anything better for £60ish? Most probably not.
I got my pair yesterday and although not quite, what I'm used too, I do really like them.

Keep them as an in between pair until something better comes along (if you can afford to).

Or failing that, fantastic opportunity to get into some new music

7 Mar 17 #80
Anyone got theirs. What's your opinions?.

I'm contemplating sending them back. Tried them with a fatboy slim track and very good. Great bass. Then tried them with Noel Gallagher track and detail seemed missing. Picking out the guitar strings etc. was disappointing. So tried some acoustic music and again not enough detail for my taste.

Should I stick with them a bit longer. Or just got the wrong headphones for me. I really wanted the 100's after hearing a friends but just too expensive at £210.

Build quality etc. Seems great so I'm sure if the sound fits you'll be happy with them.

Deliberating!

Mine arrived last week.

I pulled the trigger at £74 as I fancied a 2nd pair for the house, and occasional gym use etc.

Impressive build quality, and have a pleasant sound - initially a bit bombastic with the bass, and I couldn't help but feel they were overhyped by bass fiends.

The standard ear cushions are a bit small and shallow too in my opinion. (I'm not a big guy either)

I think this is what's causing the bass to swamp the midrange and make it sound overly blown!

I've since ordered the V-Moda XL pads for £16.

Larger, Deeper and hopefully more comfortable - and hoping that'll allow the cans to sound as good as they can!

I think they'll represent good value then

Used to have one of them for YEARS then I upgraded to the M-100s.

If you love bass, then these do not disappoint. I listen to a lot of metal and nothing like feeling the reverb from the bass drops in Fear Factory / Strapping Young Lad songs.

I purchased mine when they were almost £200. At £60, these are a STEAL.

The durability is top notch, it comes with a premium hard case, the cable is also very durable, and don't forget that V-Moda has the "Immortal Life Program" (if you're in the US) at http://v-moda.com/immortal-life-program/

Also quite comfortable (I'm a big guy with a big head) for long listening sessions and the only complaint I have is that your ears get really warm during summer.

Highly recommended!

Bit concerned over the bass on these as i normally prefer a flat response.
Can anyone comment on how much bass lift there is?

My sennheiser momentums v1 have a bass lift that is okay but noticable.

I guess i can use them for tv listening when i require a punchy sound if they are too much for music listening.
