I enjoy puzzle games, but what you've said there is the exact reason I hated it. I enjoyed it for the first few hours, but when the more involved puzzles started to crop up it became a pain. Like trying to get a Jack Russel on MDMA to win Crufts.
Not saying you're wrong, different strokes etc, but it really is the Marmite of games. I will agree though, it is bloody pretty.

"Deaf pet simulator" lol. If Trico isn't listening to you, he either needs feeding or has an arrow stuck in him somewhere. Sort out one or both issues and you're good to go

Sometimes people can't be arsed spending 10 minutes every other puzzle area trying to work out if the gameplay mechanisms are simply being difficult or just literally impossible, though. Gamers like myself with only a finite amount of time and patience prefer clearly defined rules rather than vague pseudo "design" which players/apologists have been quick to attribute to the arguably unfinished AI behaviour of Trico.
Regardless of any of that though, did this game receive any more performance optimisation updates recently? Or does it still run like a monkey dog on base PS4?

i couldn't care if it looked as good as horizon dawn it won't change what a shoddily executed piece of s*** it is, and I'm not the only person that thinks so. check the reviews!
they're the same reviewers that decry 'paid off' for Zelda

One of the best games of last year in my opinion. The controls are a tad awkward but I do feel many simply didn't have the patience to learn them and persevere.

biggest let down of the year, of the decade actually, they really dropped a lemon with this game.
can't believe this is the same team that delivered the masterpieces of ICO & SOTC
the people making excuses for the shocking AI, get a grip, it's supposed to be a GAME not an deaf pet simulator!!
then don't get me started on the ps2 era graphics, poor controls, frame rate issues....it's a complete mess

Nobody is making excuses for the AI. They just get on with it instead of crying like a baby. The majority of issues are from people not understanding the controls and becoming frustrated. Maybe a sign of the times were hand-holding in games has become the norm.

Third or Fourth 'BossDeals' post and they're not getting marked spam? Yet when I post deals from non mainstream retailers they get canned instantly "this isn't a free advertising site". I don't get HUKD logic.

These kinds of comments get right on my tits. Have you ever played a PS2? It's not even close in terms of visuals for **** sake.
If you buy this game it's definitely worth checking out some of the guides on Tricos behaviour first.

It's wicked. You have to treat the dog/chicken/dragon thing like a real animal and not expect that it'll do something you command it to straight away. It really is a beautiful game and one everyone should experience.

Love or hate game I suppose.
I love puzzles but hated this, felt more of a chore to play than anything.
Either way voted hot.
