Ah right, misinterpretation on my part it seems, I thought it was tied in with the release of the remastered version's release.

Wait. The Windows patch to make the game free for all was due March 30. It has been delayed. The Mac version is in progress and due after the Windows one.

Hmm, this is all confusing, I have a Mac and just want to play classic Starcraft online (dont have Windows atm) preferably for free, whats my option?

Not 'whining' about the delay in the game, my point was the 'deal' should be reintroduced when it is actually available because currently it is misleading (no fault of the deal poster).

It is 1,5GB zip file. This is multilingual version.

As I understand it, they are still testing, the "1.18 PTR" (test version) can be downloaded. They are currently (1st April 2017) hunting down some bugs before the final free version (1.18) is released.

Processors have changed in the past 20 years. So have networks. Quite a lot has changed! They need to make sure everything is running well. You can join the PTR if you're desperate, but I'll hold out for the official re-release.

OK what am I missing? Isn't this the game I played 20 years ago they are making available for free? What are these test releases about, surely there isn't still development on this and the new HD version is separate?

It didn't appear to happen yesterday. Ive seen nothing official from blizzard specifically saying yesterday. They just said "later this week". It's also possible they found an issue in the public test realm. All we can do is wait.

Yes, it will be on the Battle.net store. I won't be able to see how exactly you'll get it as I already own it on there. It does say it will coincide with the patch release, which hasn't happened yet, so I guess we're waiting for the US to wake up!

StarCraft Anthology is free from today.

if you still got your box and key, enter it on your library and it will let you download it. I've done it as Ive broke my warcraft 3 disc and it let me download it and play no disk needed

I never played the original, loved SC2, and definitely read that SC1 is the preffered one, so will definitely be playing SC1...

The reason they will be giving away the original version is likely to promote the upcoming HD version which won't be free.

Edit: Official PR from Blizzard indicates there's an undetermined price for the HD version - Blizzard is developing StarCraft: Remastered for release on Windows® and Mac® PCs, with an anticipated release date this summer. Pricing and related information on StarCraft: Remastered will be announced at a later date.

The HD remaster is also going to be free. It's not available until the summer, so this just seems to be Blizzard letting people get a gratis run at the original in the meantime.

Loved these games. Great strategy gaming and good story. Love the cut scenes too.

Got it already (as every other blizzard game apart from Wow) and I simply can't wait for sc1 Remaster! Been playing it non stop when it came out, what a fantastic multiplayer experience.

I'm a huge RTS fan going back to Dune II, C&C, Age of Empires, etc. but the first Blizzard game I played was WarCraft III when that was first released. I didn't get around until playing StarCraft until Christmas of 2008 and then, when I was halfway through playing it, in January 2009 there was a new patch - for a game that came out in 1998. So I've always been pretty impressed with the longevity of the game and how well Blizzard have supported it over the years (I suppose the income they must have gotten from esports didn't hurt!). It still holds up really well and is totally playable in its original form, with no modern OS compatibilty issues, so no one has any excuse not to play it now! And the remaster looks tastefully done as well, just wonder how much it's going to be?

I own StarCraft Anthology, Diablo II and WarCraft III on Battle.net under Classic games. I don't think a remaster of WarCraft III is necessary yet - it still looks great and the textures hold up at higher resolutions. They could give Diablo II the same treatment as StarCraft though, that would be nice. But I'd settle for the digital re-release of the original Diablo and WarCraft + WarCraft II on Battle.net - no idea why they haven't done that.

Any word on the price of the HD version yet? I was expecting it to be quite low because it looks like it's been built with the same assets but if they are giving the original away for free it makes me think it will be higher.
