I know the game has had a bit of bad press but I've always like the series and thought I'd bite with this Limited edition pretty cheap.
The Limited Edition will include the game and Steelbook plus five in-game DLC and two battle BGM from VALKYRIE PROFILE Series.

Yes I think there is an element of fond memories, although I think that the story and character development have been lacking of late. As the technology gets better they seem to put more emphasis (and a lot more money) on showing it off. The reason people play these types of games in the first place is for a great story and interesting characters with depth I believe and they need to start getting these basic things right before anything else. I would happily forego any graphical enhancements and ridiculous battle animations for a truly great story again.

I know what you mean, I think most of the dev teams for each series have mostly stayed independent of each other, but they have tried to take elements from each others series, some successfully, others not so. Plus adapting the styles to make them easier and more accessible, and changing the world maps. They are still pretty good games, worth playing all of them still but not quite the same. But then you always have fond memories of what you grew up with. I grew up with 2D Zelda and have never felt as comfortable with 3D ones despite such strong reviews and praise of them all. Same with Mario, I don't feel any have ever been as good as Super Mario World on the SNES, but that is what I grew up with.

Yes, I hope to see a return to form for the series. But like so many games from Square Enix, they haven't been the same since the merge. Squaresoft made excellent games (Final Fantasy series) and so did Enix (Star Ocean series) but I wish they would have stayed seperate, they seem to have lost something.

Till the end of time was awesome, I loved every minute of it. I played The Last Hope and it just wasn't as good, not bad, but didn't captivate me as much, I haven't actually finished it. I bought this one a while ago but not got round to playing it yet.

Link for the guide? I bought the guide for till the end of time because I really didn't get the crafting in it and I wasted so much money (in game money that is.)

I haven't played it yet but It shouldn't be no. There may be references but just like other rpgs, Final fantasy series for example, you can pick up and play each story on it's own.

It's an okay game. If you like JRPGs, then this is probably a good price point to jump in.
Just don't go expecting a masterpiece.
