First of all about the ability to read the data but not use it most manufacturers are simply using HDR as a marketing tool on lower end 4K sets some have limited ability to use the data others like this set have little to none,In a nutshell to really compliment your ps4 pro you need to look for sets that are UHD Premium certified this means they make a minimum specification that allows HDR to work at a level where it makes a difference for a while now the entry point set has been the Samsung 49KS7000 which meets the minimum set standard if you can afford it the Panasonic 58DX902 is another step up with Full Array Local Dimming(FALD) giving you 512 individual lighting zones.

What is the point of being able to 'read' HDR if the TV can do nothing with it? I have a ps4pro and want a tv to compliment it - what must I look out for?

IMA Sony is becomig a very poor brand, the quality is no better than a vestel product.

Wasn't this a "Lightning deal" 3 times in last month or so - at £399 ?

Had a faulty one exchanged before getting the second one refunded. The first stopped powering on. The second worked for 9 months with a slow, buggy UI and fairly frequent crashes and 1-2 minute restarts.
Got a Samsung 49" curved for around the same price, way better UI, so much faster, personally much prefer the more vivid picture.

Haven't experienced any of that. What should I look out for?

That only means the set is capable of reading the HDR metadata that's where it ends with the XD70 it does not have the hardware to do anything with it.

What is the difference? When the ps4 pushes HDR content the tv says it's switching to HDR.

You may be getting mixed up with another XD model, the XD70 has no HDR hardware only HDR content compatibility. Wider colour gamuts start with the XD80, local dimming with the XD93.

Recently bought the 55" of this model for a good price. First thing I noticed was the blacks weren't black enough. Only been playing my ps4 on it though. Has HDR for those that are not sure.
