Having been broken into before Christmas (thank God they didn't get anything) I bought this security system off Amazon. It works brilliantly, being relatively easy to install and simple to set up. It's currently reduced to less than £130, making it a bargain in my opinion. Hopefully you will never be in the situation I was in but it is an excellent deterent/system. Hope this helps someone. Update, you need to add to basket for the price to drop.

A shotgun licence is £50 for 5 years. You'll feel a lot safer with a gun cabinet next to your bed at night.

Good deterrent but 1080p is a must nowadays and even then a clear picture of some scumbag wearing a hoody with their face hidden isn't a lot of help unfortunately.

A deterrent is 95% of the solution. Even if you were to catch the eventual thieves due to CCTV, your posessions would be long gone never to be seen again. "After the fact" is no consoltaion whatsoever other than to prevent them stealing from further properties.

Even if the face is hidden in the footage from your camera, it might still be enough to get them.
The police can easily track them down using the other camera's along their way, they must have been caught without the hoody a few meters down the street before or after the break in

Unless you're sleeping with the police who's going to know.

Yep you can then pickup said gun cabinet and throw it at the robbers!
You're not allowed a shotgun cabinet next to your bed

This system is so simple to install and setup, the 960p quality is fantastic. I have one camera on a car park at the IRs are good enough to light it up. Cannot recommend this system enough but do get yourself a decent size hard drive for it.

After catching three men in my house I felt like I had no choice. It does seem to help and it also offers a bit of peace of mind when I'm in work.

You can check on your phone, not sure if you can record on your phone though.

If you want a deterrent save your money and buy a dummy box. This is such a poor quality system it is a waste of money whichever way you look at it.
An expensive deterrent compared to dummy cameras, a useless system when it comes to capturing quality footage.
For the record, I haven't added heat nor have I voted cold, just posting an honest opinion.

So if I have a spare USB drive knocking around I can simply attach it?

Who's to say he did or didn't give him a warning.
My point is though, good CCTV of three separate theft occasions and police give a warning.
It's utter nonsense.

Police was called they took some info went round the person's house and gave them a warning.

960p is not cleae. Beware

The resolution is fine. Its the camera hardware /firmware that defines how "clear" it is. 1280x960 is still a good HD image size. A 2 litre engine can produce less than 100bhp, but a 2 litre engine can also produce over 300bhp. Not everything is as easy as just comparing numbers in specifications.

Also note, you will need a Hard Disk Drive to record with this setup.
