I'm currently looking to buy a Samsung galaxy S7.

Just seen this deal with no upfront cost and £23.49 per month. Gives 2GB of data along with 1000 minutes and unlimited texts.

There is also £20 off if you go through Quidco which would bring the cost down to £22.65 per month if it tracks.

Let me know what you think. Comments and feedback appreciated

Can't see anywhere that it says this is an old phone, it's a new phone I believe but last years model release so is not like getting an iffy phone off of Gumtree and you will have a warranty with this deal.
SavB
23 Apr 17 #121
Don't see why you'd buy an old phone on contract. You can get them used in near-perfect condition for hundreds of pounds less. And that's without being locked into a 24-month contract.

It's only worth going into a contract for a new phone if you ask me, as used ones will be no different in price to retail and since they're new it's less of a problem being locked in for 2-years.

Do yourself a favour and just save for a few more weeks and buy it for less than £300 on Gumtree.

You can get the phone with 4gb for £25 a month with three or 5gb £26 a month with EE and free Apple Music for 6 months and bt sport free for 3 months, both with unlimited calls and text
This is a poor deal compared.

There was a £21/month unlimited mins/texts & 2gb data plan plus free roaming in the eu deal on here within the last couple of weeks. Free s7 using a code which knocked £25 off, so it's possible

Argos have just stuck their price up as well. I suspect it's a cunning plan so they can flog it at what appears to be an even more spectacularly reduced rate in a couple of weeks time.

Leonintelex
26 Mar 17 #110
Yeah, probably the best option. Tbh once my trial of OnStar runs out in 12 months I'll gonna do the same. It's good to have but a lot more expensive than tethering if you have a good data package.
soldierboy001
26 Mar 17 #109
Thanks for that very interesting post Leon, but for the amount of use I would probably give it I will just stick with tethering if I need to use my laptop away from home on a journey. Good to know though.

Haha noticed this as well - mobilephonesdirect are down to £455 - would still prefer John Lewis for customer services. You can get it from samsung store for £503 with a code and you'll also get a 128gb micro sd. Code is SAMSUNGSAVE20. I just can't see it being dropped in price that much as it will dent their s8 sales early on.

I'm with you on this. Looking at trust pilot these sites seem to have a pretty good rep, but for peace of mind and not that much more I'm thinking of just picking it up at John Lewis so that if there are any issues they can be quickly resolved. I'll see what happens when the s8 is released but doubt the price will drop much. 2gb wouldn't last me long at all but appreciate it is for others and therefore it is a good deal. It will be buy outright and SIM only deal (rolling month) for me as sim deals are always popping up
dralanhart
24 Mar 17 #102
i believe it was...
Galaxy s7 white 32Gb
Vodafone via Carphone Warehouse
6Gb UK data
unlimited calls and texts
500Mb roaming per month in Europe (Vodafone Red)
included European roaming calls and SMS (not sure if there's a limit)
either 60 or 70 upfront
50 quidco
24/month, 2 years.

If you search on here for s7 24 you'll find various versions of the deal that were available from other retailers too.

Not saying it's breaking the bank, just want to be sure what I'm signing up for. EE site says the price will go up on March 30 by 2.5%, so this £23.49 price will jump up to £24.08 within a week of signing up to it. Again, it's a good price, but just confirming what my thoughts are

23 Mar 17 #99
ERM no every contract goes up each year, you won't see an increase until march 2018

I took out an o2 contract 2 years ago at £28pm , now it's £28.66 hardly breaking the bank is it?
ChunkyKong
23 Mar 17 #98
About to order one of these but noticed in the T&C just before i order that it says

So their prices go up in March, even though you agree to a contract of £23.49 for 2 years? Is that true?

Also am with Vodafone at the moment but as a second sim through my wife's contract, so need to figure out how to transfer number. Is it as simple as phoning up and asking for PAC?
Rotoq

My contract isn't up until the end of May but even so, I'm tempted at this price. Might just hold off though.
Leonintelex
23 Mar 17 #96
Yeah, quite a few different options you can get now. You do have to pay a contract though, which can get quite expensive so shop around.

Cheapest and easiest option is to tether from your mobile, your network might even give you a separate allowance for this. Though this is not nessarily in car WiFi bit serves the same purpose.

Here a good article that may help:

If that was the case then you should have pursued your warranty claim with Mobiles.co.uk

Samsung are entirely within their right to tell you to get lost with any of their products of theirs should it develop a fault. Any warranty or guarantee has to be taken up with the retailer of the phone and NOT the manufacturer. Samsung do not have a contract with you. their contract is whoever retails the phone whether that be CPW, EE, Virgin, Amazon or whoever. The retailer or seller who you are paying for the item then has a contract with you and they have a legal duty under the laws of this country as well as EU laws to honour any warranty providing the terms and conditions of that warranty have been met. Don't expect them to repair your phone if it has water damage or clear evidence it's been abused.

If 1000 minutes isn't enough you can pay £20.99 a month, £75.00 up front for the phone and you get same data, same texts but with UNLIMITED minutes and the cost of the contract is only a fiver more than this deal. No doubt if I posted that deal it would be cold lol.

Damn, nearly forgot. Have some heat. Now can you find me a deal on the edge. I took on board what the post above says about apps and screen protector but after being used to a 5.5" screen for the last 21 months I don't want to go smaller.
Smartguy1
21 Mar 17 1 #82
I just had a look at this. Quite an expensive phone for a company which needs to prove itself further to appeal to the Samsung and Apple market. I am not saying its a bad phone by any means and has excellent tech reviews but .............they need to appeal to the market by way of price, similar to what Lenovo did on their PC range to get people tempted. For me if I'm going to pay O2 £30.00 a month for a phone manufactured by a company I have hardly heard of I think I would prefer to pay the same amount and get a Samsung, LG or HTC.
llennyyyy
21 Mar 17 #81
why is the s7 edge pictured? false advertising, fishing for heat? Either one of those. can you change the picture to reflect the actual phone in the deal and not one that costs on average £10pm extra and £100 upfront. voting cold on those grounds
Smartguy1
21 Mar 17 #80
I do that anyway thank you. I would rather sell on ebay than anywhere else. Just sold my HTC Desire from 2009 !! It sold for £22.00 and was mint, my first smartphone. Got about £65.00 for my Galaxy S2 at 4 years old and the wife has just finished with my old S4 which will be up soon. All my phones are in mint condition as they are in full cases from purchase. I little disappointed with the quality of my LG G4 though as even though it has always been in a case the cases don't protect to top and bottom edges and scratches easily. Good job I used a screen protector though as quick circle cases scratch the screen.
Smartguy1
21 Mar 17 1 #79
Don't think that's going to happen somehow. I was looking at buying the wife an S6 for christmas, 9 months after launch and whilst I could have got her an LG G4 for £230.00 the S6 was nearer £400.00. Similar spec phones with some saying the G4 is / was better having removable battery and memory card slot. Samsung will not want to lose any sales to the competition and whilst this is probably the best deal ever for a new S7 I am still waiting to see one for the S7 edge. Judging by what's happened with the S6 prices for the S7 will remain high for sometime because they will also want to push people to the S8. They will have proper marketing statistics which may show if the price difference is small people will buy the new model. However if all of a sudden S7's and S7 edges start to appear for £250/£300 then what are people going to buy. I know what I would do.

Dont' bother with the edge, it's more trouble than its worth. I got the s7 edge and my wife got the s7. Wish I had just got the s7 as well. The edge screen looks nice but practicality it is rubbish. The edge apps are terrible and offer nothing extra to the phone, it can be hard swiping a website etc to the side to read as every time the edge apps open when you touch the edge. On some games, apps etc, buttons that need pressed but are near the edge of the screen are a nightmare to press because of the curved glass. Finally if you use screen protectors good luck getting one that stays stuck down for more than a few days.

Yes it's a stunning looking phone, but for every day use I wish I'd just got the normal s7.

as for cashback sites they are a bonus,

9/10 they pay out, if they don't then you still get the deal you originally pay for so you not lost anything

you should never go for a deal thinking you are guaranteed payment with cashback sites, just think of it as a bonus
great if they do bad luck if they dont

2gb of internet will go in no time, I use facebook and browse internet every now and again, and I would say I use around 15mb for about 10-20 mins use and that's not even watching videos etc, I use wifi at home n turn mobile internet off that gets me to the end of the month barely. 2gb in my opinion is way to low even for basic use for browsing

Cracking price for a brilliant phone. Shame about the data allowance but have WiFi in my car so no deal breaker.

2GB is fine for most people, unless you're a heavy music streamer who is constantly away from wifi. I'd be more worried about the 32GB internal storage, of which around 8GB will already be taken up by Android system files.

Yes, the S7 supports micro SD cards but, as I found out with my Galaxy Tab S2, only some apps can be transferred to the SD card, and those that can be transferred only transfer a few MB of files to the SD card, leaving most of the app stored on the internal storage still.

Have you considered the Oneplus 3t phone from oneplus it is tons better than the S7 and the apple phone I8 or whatever it is now a days
my son has one and he loves it, if you do get a oneplus go on ebay for your case etc from a seller called "flexfirm" Orzly case's ETC are very good quality and he is authorised to sell them by Orzly.
Also mobiles.co.uk are carphonewarehouse's sister company so the phone will be unlocked BUT there is some bad reviews of mobiles.co.uk on moneysavingexpert.com

I can see that you are trying to help, but you say "tell them to stop the contact (30 days notice) take out this deal and port your phone number across with a pac code", which is not really good advice. If you give 30 days notice to cancel, they will not let you have a PAC unless you cancel that notice - the best way is to ring them up & ask for your PAC, let them ask why (if they think you want to move to the other deal it gives you a slightly better negotiating position). The PAC lasts 30 days & if not used, it is as if you never called - your contract will continue. If you give notice & wait 30 days, your number is gone.

When you use a PAC, it is most likely you will be charged up to the end of the 30 day validity period (effectively your 30 days notice). In effect you have 3 choices - wait about 3 weeks to order your new phone risking that the offer will change so that you can use your PAC after around 25 to 28 days, minimising the double billed time, order your new phone & use your PAC after around 25 to 28 days, guaranteeing a 4 week double bill or order your new phone & use your PAC ASAP, move on with life using your new contract & phone, giving your old network 4 weeks money for nothing (in theory this should be billed VAT free as 'services not provided', so if they offer you a discount, they are not doing you a favour, but be prepared to have to fight for it). Basically when you port there is a delicate juggle or cost of 3 to 4 weeks line rental.

Mobiles.co.uk have still got Unlimited mins/texts and 7GB of Data for £4.50 a month after cashback, so works out as £108 for 24 months, so £456 for the phone.
I would personally wait until S8 comes out, there will be better deals around for this phone.

I'm still on the fence on what phone to choose this year. I was waiting for S8 to come out but now that they've announced the retail price for it (though it's not confirmed), I'm not sure it's worth it lol
I might wait for Xiaomi Mi 6 or OnePlus 4 (or 5?)

Hot. I think recent s7 deals from mobiles.co.uk had discount codes and still a small handset cost so this deal looks better. 2gb 1000 minutes is what 7/month cost so let's say £180 over two years so £384 phone price.

They did that to me with my iPhone contract. Upped the calls from 5p to 10p which was an increase higher than inflation, which gave me automatic right to cancel (which I did). They were in breach of contract so had to cancel penalty free and I kept the handset. I only had the contract for 9 weeks. So that was quite handy.

This isn't either. The NOTE 7 was the one that exploded not the S7 and Samsung have started a new safety check which I believe they used for some of the newer S7s, and now S8s. Even then, the percentage of faulty Note 7s were low but it was a hazard so they were recalled and production was ceased.

Several ebay sellers around the £420 which state they are brand new sealed UK phones with two year Samsung warranty. Still a bit unsure. Main retailers like John Lewis are still at the £500 mark.

I'm waiting a bit longer and will see if there are some further reductions after s8 come along, but agree, not expecting a major drop.

ive just moved home and i cant get a contract phone , i wanted the S7 Edge but because i have not been in my new home for 3 years theres no chance , i dont get it because they take it by direct debit from my bank which in my case would be fine , does anyone have any tips

Anyone know how to get this as an upgrade,as my wife's is due and she fancies this ?

phone up your operator ask then to price match or else you are leaving. They may do this, they may not. If they don't, tell them to stop the contact (30 days notice) take out this deal and port your phone number across with a pac code. This is done automatically if you ask for it. If the deal is with the same network then you can either stop current contract and take this deal but lose your mobile number or you can port to a payg sim on a different network and then back onto this deal with your old phone number.

Not a bad deal but I cannot take the risk of fire. Never Samsung again.

Samsung Galaxy S7 vs S7 Edge: What's the difference?
Apart from the screen size, overall handset size and difference in battery size the s7 and s7 edge is the same...the s6 and s6 edge had quite a bit of difference between the two from what I can remember...my current contract runs out in May so will see if there are good deals for either of the s7 iterations or I just stick with my note 4 and get a good sim only deal...

Why would you want to buy a Galaxy S7 then be limited to 2GB?? Pointless
sonicfury to marmaluke

Because you want this phone and aren't a heavy user of data?

I have not seen anything like a comparable deal to my voda 24/mo since I got the deal.
dralanhart
20 Mar 17 #10
It's a pretty good deal. Back on black Friday I got an s7 with 6Gb for 24/mo on Vodafone, for my wife. there were various versions of the deal around... I paid 70 upfront and got 50 back from quidco... if we hadn't cared about colour I could have paid slightly less upfront. The Vodafone plan had quite a cool roaming package thrown in too. But that was black Friday and this is now... the phone's older but it's not deal season.

I.d mobile (as example).
£5/M for 5000 text, 250mins, 1.5gb data. (current special deal)

That's still £120 over the course of 2 years added ontop of a phone cost.

£7.50 for 2gb, 5000 text, 500mins
£155 ontop of phone cost.

Keep in mind these are 30 day rolling contracts (cancel any time).

I wouldn't buy this as it's a too old for my liking but I'm one for new stuff. As far as the deal goes, it's a good one. I'm waiting for the s8 to arrive and cash in on the edge when the price drops considerably!

is it better to buy sim free ad then use sim only?
northerngeezer to bloc
20 Mar 17 1 #4
I thought of that option but to get a decent quality second hand S7 then you are looking at £400+ and then you have to factor in the sim only deal for 2 years

tempted, would like the s7 edge for this price though...hopefully prices will drop further when the s8 is out!

By the way 2GB of data is plenty for me but may not be enough for others depending on their usage.
