Stay well away from Temple Bar for a taste of real Dublin instead of ersatz-diddly-di-di .... full of drunken stags and hen parties....avoid at all costs...ohhh and it'll be much cheaper if you find a proper pub nearby like Mulligans on Poolbeg Street or The Long Hall or Grogans!

Booked earlier today  last year it was £1 each way... but still a HUGE bargain at £2 each way

I did this last year, it was lovely. Onboard entertainment was included, there is a bar, arcade for kids etc. It made the travel part of the holiday itself. I have booked again this year - at this price its fab!

I did note the limit is up to 10 per crossing but with 274 days between now and 15th December and if there is four crossings a day that still means over 10,000 at these prices.

crossing from holyhead was about 3hrs or so from memory. Its quite expensive dublin and ireland itself, but its worth a visit if you have never been before. As someone else mentioned, plenty of good bars and pubs with live music on - visit temple bar area and especially temple bar pub, its a great craic!

It's worth checking the sail rail ticket that's really not very publicised at all. That is still far cheaper for me from my part of the world than buying a separate rail ticket and this ticket. There's also no limit on numbers.

We've done that a few times - it's a cheap option there's a shuttle bus between station and ferry just check out on nationalrail or whatever from "home" to Dublin.

Who goes to Dublin to drink Heineken? Thats like going to Amsterdam to drink Guinness LOL

You are right about the tourist trap that is Temple Bar. Its a good craic but there are cheaper pubs not too far away.

I was just thinking that the prices haven't gone up since I was last in Temple Bar in 2009 - Dublin is seriously expensive. You can get a pint for half that in Rome if you know where to go.

If you haven't been to Dublin, don't bother. Just pick a local run-down town (Bolton in Lancashire is similar, with nicer buildings) and go there. You will be able to get a pint for £2.50.

Absolutely. It's remarkable how Bolton and similar nondescript JDSports-festooned sh)tholes get bypassed by European capitals with culture and history.
Everyone loves what Bolton and Blackburn has to offer. They just don't know it yet.

I live in Bolton and Bolton offers plenty....plenty of roads that lead to the motorway and to other places other than Bolton

Where did you find that sunny picture from? Never seen sun like that in Bolton. You must have searched for ages!

Just for the info..Bolton is in greater Manchester these days and pints are about £1.50 in weatherspoons if you have double denim to wear. You will fit right in.... Dublin here I come

Hi guys,

Just keen to know how expensive is Dublin, thinking to move to there with family with around 4000 euros salary a month?

Temple bar Polish bouncers were funny, they asked me for ID and i didn't have any on me so i said i'd go back to the temple bar hotel to get it, they laughed saying yeah right you couldn't afford to stay there within 5 mins i was back with my ID then they tried to say my ID wasn't real because it was a northern ireland provisional driving license and they hadn't seen one before but luckily their manager came out and he knew what it was.

However if you don't go to temple bar you can't get absolutly drunk and think it's a good idea to take a selfie with a statue here from my private collection in July 2010 lol

To be honest, if you google images of bulidings in Bolton. It looks pretty comparable...
kimbo87
17 Mar 17 #37
There is one nice building in Bolton which is riddled with drunks and druggies (which of course the image doesn't show) the rest of the buildings are either poundlands or poundworlds... Bolton is hardly a tourist hot spot... and there is a good reason for that! Dublin however is full of history, several beautiful buildings, great atmosphere and people... no comparison in my opinion. Yes Dublin is expensive, but you go there for the experience not to penny pinch.

You Describe pretty much any big city there.

I love Dublin. It's expensive because of the Euro exchange rate but not silly prices provided you don't get caught out in a tourist trap such as the Temple Bar itself.

The Temple Bar area is very nice & worth a visit or two for the music (inside & out) alone, just not for a drinking session...

Guiness is available in most parts of Dublin for 5 euro a pint & there is a very good selection of restaurants at reasonable value.

Worth noting Liverpool to Belfast is £5 each way too. It's over 6 hrs and you can fly in 40 mins though and the train will cost me more to get from Cheshire to Liverpool.

Totally agree!
We stayed in Dublin for four nights.
Spoke to a local, older chap in the market on our first day and asked for the best pubs, places to see and where to eat.
We had a fabulous time, saw lots of interesting places, including a short but beautiful train trip to a lovely little place on the coast called Howth. There were seals in the harbour! <3
We bought a multi ride bus ticket to get around and the buses were as frequent as any other large city I've visited.
Also had one of the best Chinese meals I have ever eaten in Dublin Chinatown!
It can be as expensive or as cheap as you make it. We had a amazing break :innocent:
