how do you refurbish one of these? its an electronic device with a multilayer PCB built on a production line with multimillion pound machines. Do they mean they've just switched on a second hand unit and gave it a bit of a pollish?

They may have plugged it in, but I doubt it. Mine came pre-configured with someone else's router - a factory reset sorted it out but its clear that it had not been tested.

decent enough these things, although can be a little bit 'flaky' in a house crammed full of lathe & plaster + 3 foot thick granite walls...

As usual with lots of this kind of tech what they mean is Used / Second Hand. LOL
"We plugged it in and it works, lets take a chance." At least its 12 months warranty so wel worth it, many refurbs are not.

A lot of folks has this misconception that this will boost your WiFi. It only extends the signal but sacrifices the strength. I've been using the Dual Band (600) version with my Virgin SuperHub3 for a while now and does the job well. It generally covers all the black spots where i didn't have a signal but at a reduced data rate. Currently on 50MBps on VM and will get 15-20MBps through the extender which is no big deal to me as the extender covers just basic net stuff. For

Instead of boosting from wifi, could I plug in an ethernet cable that is upstairs and boost from that? (Output from ethernet/extender)

Has anyone used this successfully using a power strip?
I bought a Maplin Powerline some time ago which failed miserably as it insisted on plugging directly into dedicated sockets at each end.
Who among us tech folk with multiple devices all over the place have empty mains sockets?

It confirms within this video that it will work with all providers and I guess this is their eBay store..
