Great value for money, with excellent refinement and great dynamic ability; What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision magazine.Affordable quality The Q Acoustic 2050i speakers are a quality pair of floorstanding speakers that, given the sound quality, are surprisingly affordable. Designed by true hi-fi enthusiasts, the 2050i use excellent quality components for the price and deliver a sound to rival many more expensive designs.Smooth treble response The soft dome tweeter has a smooth, sweet sound that demonstrates remarkable refinement. Unlike some rivals, you won't hear excessive sibilance or a harsh 'spitting' sound. The new tweeter unit is also decoupled from the rest of the cabinet, meaning that it isn't affected by vibration from the bass woofer unit - helping to make it even more detailed.Revised bass woofers Combined with a redesigned crossover, the up-rated woofer units now feature carbon-fibre and ceramic-coated paper cones. Combined with the redesigned crossover, it better integrates the mid-range woofer with the treble unit for a more seamless sound. Boasting twin woofers and a large cabinet, the 2050i are also powerful and dynamic with a deeper and punchier bass than most other rivals.Class-leading construction quality, In addition to sounding better than most speakers at this price the Q 2050i is also better finished. Flush-mounted drive units and curved edges not only improve the aesthetics but also help the sound. For a floorstanding speaker with power, refinement and value in equal measure, the Q Acoustics 2050i deserves to be in your shortlist.

Bought my son some Dali Zensor 3's and a Marantz CD player through the Open Box option before Christmas. If you are on a budget its worth considering.

Please define "excellent refinement" and "great dynamic ability." Nonsense words with no meaning (in this context).

Well. Great dynamic ability in my opinion would mean it handles soft, quiet parts, and when the action and loudness picks up, it handles that well too.
Not really sure what the first one means. Not muddy perhaps?
I have a Denon AV1610 with a pair of Q Acoustics 1010i been tempted to change to a 5.1, based on the reviews it looks like this pair can pretty much eliminate the mid front and sub. If I use them for front and 1010i to the rear/side how would it work to emulate a 5.1 setup as it will be more like a 4.0?
Or would I be better off just to get the Denon 5.1 for £149 in another deal? I am a novice on AV setup woulf appreciate any advice. Thanks.

The speakers here won't eliminate the need for a centre or sub. 4.0 would be fine though as long as you're dead centre. Dialogue will seem a bit strange if not, that's where the centre channel comes into play. Sub is just personal preference really. If you like room shaking bass, then these won't do that. You could buy these today and invest in the centre and sub later. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Do yourself a favour and don't check out "WhatHiFi" reviews of HDMI cables. It could cause an embolism.

I wish that were a good excuse, but it ain't.

It wasn't the manufacture's words that I was responding to, rather some up their own **** idiot who thinks that they they can do poetry when talking about transducers.
That's all.

They're using that very same comment at Richer Sounds, to sell the speaker. From the manufacturer or not, it's being used to sell the speaker.

I don't know. They are trying to sell speakers and fancy words seem to help. Unless you want it to go something like this.
"Sounds alright. Pretty accurate. Buy this speaker"
I personally wouldn't give what "WhatHiFi" say much thought.

A word similar to "accurate" would have done then, wouldn't it.

Wow, seriously tempted with these. Demo'd em at RS and was impressed at the money (which wasn't anywhere near RRP even then). Easily worth £250.
