Pretty sure It needs to be one of the very original 60GB models which are not very common, and most deffo not the slim models.

Not opened mine yet , but box had a return sticker on dated 13/3/2017, so think this is going to be knackered, looks like its been doing the rounds sale wise

Saying that, i kitted mine out with a 500gb hard drive early on so using the play tv add on, if i took my HD out of it could i just drop it in one of these? Just thinking this may be good for me as it is a bit quieter for the home cinema and drop the original drive back in the phat for my son to use solely until it dies!

They weren't all bad, mine's still trucking after 9 years of use, gets blasted out with compressed air once a year which quietens it down again, they didn't like dust!

First ps3 which the uk never got but was sold in Japan and the US got the full ps2 chipset and full compatibility with ps2. A later slightly cheapified version removed the mips cpu to save costs and emulated that with slightly reduced ps2 compatibility and then after that ps2 compatibility was removed. Sony could have easily added ps1 and ps2 game compatibility to ps4 with pure software emulation but didn't do it. All ps3's are compatible with ps1 games and there are many classics there.

Maybe so (although it details both NTSC & PAL) but the article does show that the best way to tell if a ps3 will play ps2 games is by the number of usb ports on the front regardless of where it was released in the world.

I may be wrong but i think the wiki article is based around the US market - in the UK only the first generation 60gb was backward compatible, we didn't get a 20gb option at launch (but I'm thinking the US did), so in the UK the fat 1st gen 60gb (with chrome trim) is the only backward compatible one.

I believe your right, but they had a GPU which made emulation possible which was removed in later models that only had 2 usb ports.

I thought the 20GB models did not have the Emotion Chip?

As a quick visual check it should have 4 usb ports on the front, as well as memory card slots under a flap above the usb ports (all were originally 20/60gb but the capacity is no guarantee while the ports are).

I've emailed them anyway, they 'should' do. The contact numbers and email addresses are exactly the same on both websites.

I started collecting for PS3 about two months ago because a lot of PS4 games are sequesls plus there are great games such as Red Dead etc. I've got 150 titles for absolute peanuts really.

The vast majority of my games come from Music Magpie and have all been spot on and rarely cost more than £2-3 a pop. Well worth your business in my opinion.

That's quite an assumption, unless they state it somewhere?

I've had NO problem with faults and returns, but it may depend on the store etc.

Brilliant if you have a 3D tv because so many games support 3D which is not the case for later consoles.

If you fancy a different console maybe you had a 360 or wii instead of ps3 now is an excellent time to buy with both console and games seriously cheap.

Firing up my PS3 slim recently to play a few games that have been featured on Eurogamer..

The UI is absolutely horrible, even if just in terms of speed and bugs - it really shows how far the PS4 has come when you go back and look at things this way. But I still love my PS3 in a way that I haven't most other consoles and I don't see myself ever getting rid of it. 11 years old as a platform and still plenty of amazing games to play.

Just need to figure out how I can multitask and play Horizon and Nioh at the same time..

That is a really good price, from a reputable company too, who have never disappointed me. Would a Mini CD work on a PS3 or will it get jammed? I have been asking myself that question for a few months now.

Good prices, slightly better prices on their eBay store though, managed to buy a 320GB Slim for £62, certain consoles are eligible for £5 off. The 250GB and 320GB Slim consoles are slightly better priced there (60 and 62 if you take in the discount)

This is definitely the best PS3 model to get... Doesn't have the YLOD issues of the original phat models, and doesn't have the horrible design/top loading tray of the super slim.

Nice and easy to upgrade the HDD to 1TB as well

Been thinking about getting a PS3 lately, and this deal was perfect.

Beware buying off this site- bought from them for years via Amazon only had two problems ever & both were sorted quickly & easily......So I bought from this site thinking they were reputable. Its 3weeks later than my first email & I've yet to receive a resolution to a faulty dvd, something so simple to resolve......
Possibly they're busy/short staffed for some reason atm, but I would be very wary about buying a used ps3 from them- unless it was via Amazon!

I'm Assuming the Slim PS3 consoles pictured come with controllers as they are pictured with one, all the "phat" versions are not.

They have a 14 day return policy anyway if yo aren't happy for any reason.

Purely as it doesn't state it explicitly. The image suggests so, but there are plenty of retailers that will sell just the console with the power lead only.

You can also get the 12GB, 40 and 60GB for this price at CEX quite frequently. The one in Winchester was overflowing last time I looked
