FIFA looks better and is the more polished product, but gameplay is critical and PES is the clear winner there. Out of the two I prefer PES.

We're going to have to wait for pes 18 to come out to get this at £8...like pes 16 was around £6 from Boomerang when pes 17 came out, granted pes 16 was on disc...had to buy this at this price as I was waiting for the disc version to hit the elusive £10 or less mark!

Awesome game (from the demo). Don't need it, probably won't play it much but can't resist at that price! Even if only for when the lads come round (though they moan it isn't fifa! Imbeciles!) worth it for the price of a couple of pints!

Worst football game online in years, great offline though.

I can't recommend it, scripting switched right up this time around. A very frustrating online experience for anyone other than casuals that won't notice.

Link worth a read if you want to find proof of scripting (it's in there, but very long): https://forums.pesfan.com/showthread.php?266790-MyClubs-Handicapping-scripting

Sold my copy at the right time for £21, MyClub and pes league is free and more than enough, particularly given its flaws.

But if you are buying for offline and to play locally with mates you can (mostly) ignore the above, it's then good value.

The matchmaking is frustratingly bad on PES 17, always get matched to players with full team of the year Messis Neymars and Ronaldos. Other than that at this price it is an absolute bargain. I clocked almost all the trophies before selling (the damn myclub superstar 6 in a row trophy stopped me from the platinum) and the AI is top notch, does exactly what you set it to do.

Great price. Heat added.

Bare in mind that given the 15 day expiry on all of the price changes that are happening as I type this, these appear to be destined to be part of the easter sale.

All the Uncharted series, TLoU, R&C, loads of VR games, FF XV (tenner!) have all seen significant drops.

Grease up your wallets/purses; Sony are going to give them a right good rogering.

you know why the connection is so poor in this game?

https://www.pesmyclub.com/report-a-lag-cheater/

https://www.google.co.uk/#q=pes+lag+cheat

Many players use lagswitch to win (i.e. they lag their own internet connection and by doing that they can actually slow your players down but don't affect theirs).

I've been playing PES on Steam since 2016 and the connection is still bad. On online lobby, 9 out of 10 players use lagcheat after I scored against them. Go figure!

Are these safe to use?
I mean, by that, won't delete or revert back when/if the game receives a patch for anything? Surprised Sony has allowed this as a possibility with how strict they are over adding external files.

Like on football manager you can spend 10 minutes downloading an options file to a memory stick and installing it. This adds all the teams logos and names and managers etc. I played FIFA for years. But this is by far the most realistic football game out there. I traded FIFA 17 in for it.

I have this on Xbox one, I enjoy the game and mostly play online leagues, ie 10 game seasons.
It is amazing the amount of people that pick Barcelona or R. Madrid, sometimes your whole ten games in one season comprises of just them as opponents with the odd Brazil or Spain thrown in for good measure. You get a great deal of pleasure beating one of those 5star teams, but even the most poor player has a chance if they have them as their team. It is a pity that you can't see their team selection before starting the match, that is the only problem I have with this game

I loved PES in the glory days, and i got and enjoyed last year's version, however one big issue is that there seems to o be a real lack of 'personality' in players these days, and i think that affects PES.

Less players have their own particular 'style' these days, back in 98-2005 you had some really good players that PES would pretty accurately emulate (i am thinking, Ronaldonhio, Henry, Zidane Fat Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos, Beckham, Davids,, .... Etc etc.
Apart from the superstars playing for Spain's top clubs there's very few players that you want to get on the ball in Pes (or watch in real life) at the mo.

Anyhow I also would not be surprised to see this as a PlayStation Plus game in the near future, as before, as that price point is incredibly low.

WARNING: Long Post

/Rant

Back when I was a kid, my parents bought me the first ISS (PES) game on the SNES.

Since then, I owned every single one. The two on the SNES, N64, and then moved on to the Playstation. When ISS transformed into PES, it was literally (at the time), the best thing ever. What a game, what a transformation. I loved it.

I of course went on to buy every PES, on my PS1, then XBOX (using the PS2 pad converter of course) and then I moved onto PC for the better graphics and frame rates.

Over the years, I even entered and real life tournaments, in cities in the UK. Just missing out by one place on a chance to go into Europe and represent the UK in PES.

So...you could say I was pretty obsessed with the game. It was one of the most important thing in my, and my friends' lives.

Fast forward to PES2014. PES obviously in major decline at this point, but I'm still playing it. I buy the PC version and work my way up to number one in the world. It was literally the only game I played, and for hours on end.

Then, I try to login one day...but Konami have banned me. Hmmm...why? Must be some mistake.

Turns out they have 'user reports' that I have been 'lag cheating'. Which of course was ridiculous. I mean, the game was barely playable because of lag, but that has always been the case with PES. But I certainly wasn't cheating. No way.

I repeatedly asked for evidence of this, knowing full well there wouldn't be any because it wasn't true. Konami could not provide any apart from using the phrase 'user reports'. Turns out, my ability and been causing quite a stir on a PES forum, and a gang of them had got together to report me, purely for malicious and bitter (and even racist - based on my PES name) reasons. I forwarded this to Konami. But no. I was calm, polite and provided evidence of my PES past and these malicious reports. But no. Would Konami listen? They became increasingly hostile, short and rude - and would not budge because of 'user reports'.

Long story short, after nearly 20 years playing ISS/PES...I was done. Never to play or purchase new, a Konami game again.

The game is run and designed by amateurs. It is one big joke. The problems I read that people have with the game now, are exactly the same crap that was happening 10 years ago. They will never learn.

Have been playing FIFA happily now for years, with an online service that actually works. True, EA aren't exactly bastions of the consumer, and the FIFA community can be a little juvenile (though certainly not like PES), but at least the game works and people aren't banned for no reason.

Good riddance, Konami. You bunch of ********.

23 Mar 17 #138
Yes, it works fine but there seems to be a limit to how many teams you can import across all the various worldwide leagues. The kits look brilliant depending on where you get them from, try Pesworld. The emblems take a little while as you have to do them individually but it's not hours and hours like it was last year.
Scrat
23 Mar 17 #139
It's interesting that you played PES or ISS for 20 years and you then realised that it is run by amateurs. I fully agree that the online element is a joke, but it's still great to play offline. I can understand you being upset if you were made to look like a cheat but where does the racism come from? If you have evidence of this you should report it to the provider. There will always be idiots online as there are idiots in society, and they can hide behind their consoles and keyboards which make it more prevalent. FIFA is a highly polished game with a huge budget compared to PES, yet the gameplay in my opinion is lacking in comparison. Just my opinion.
mackay85
23 Mar 17 #140
Nice one! I'll take a look at that. Have you used any from the http://www.pesgaming.com/ website? There is tones of info/content on this !!!
Scrat
23 Mar 17 #141
I haven't used that particular website but see if they have any pictures of the kits. They are really not that difficult to install, try the premier league ones and see if you like them. They can always be deleted and you can try some from somewhere else if you are not happy. They make a BIG difference to how the game looks.

the problem is they always stick to p2p connection for online gameplay. If they use proper server instead of relying on p2p connection the problem would have been solved.

Fifa, PES...meh, you can forget it all once this is out later in the year.......

I just downloaded and installed kits for the English clubs from PESWorld and they look fantastic - the thousands of options on PES gaming got a bit confusing.

No denying SWOS was a favourite of mine let's just hope it's nothing like the reboot of kick off that flunked hard!

Well hard work updating teams. Is there a one file does all? Tried but team names still Yorkshire oranges, man blue etc

Is it worth upgrading to this from 2016?

Head over to pesuniverse and download the option file.

When we finally got a ps4 the kids wanted me to get FIFA since all their friends had that- how they sulked when I brought home PES 2017. After an hour or so of playing they are now converts- Best (offline) football game ever!

Cant see what the fuss is about for myclub though.

started to get sick of fifa after 5 years - purchased and voted hot!

25 Mar 17 #153
People here are saying that the game is good offline but not online.

The free trial version offers the offline game. Here's a document listing the differences:

https://www.konami.com/wepes/2017/eu/en/page/f2p/

I know this is a good deal right now but is it worth getting the paid edition given that the free edition seems to already have the offline play mode?

Anyone able to get me an option file as we don't have access to a computer here
bo9dster007
25 Mar 17 #155
Download it on your phone and transfer it from an sd card if you have an adaptor or buy an otg cable very useful for a couple of quid
DelBoySmiffy
25 Mar 17 #156
Is that even possible
bo9dster007
25 Mar 17 #157
Of course, that's how I did it with a otg cable
eugenius
26 Mar 17 #158
Yeah, I've played the demo, less arcadey and feels much more challenging than PES 2016.

Think I'm going to bite. Going straight for Master League this time round, got sucked into myclub last time..

Ive got this on disc version and have all my saved edit data on my ps4 etc. I've now purchased this £8 version off PSN but it tells me it wont install until I delete the disc version off my ps4. Will I lose all my saved data or can I stop the edit data being deleted?
Scrat
26 Mar 17 #160
I did try backing up my data to the online backup first but I still lost all my kit edits. Be aware you will probably lose some or all of your data. MyClub players were still intact though.

anyone got the team updates to work? tried the ones on Dreamfc / Pes world and that seems to leave quite a few championship teams out etc, then tried the PESuniverse latest option file - and it starts to fail import about 50% though. For a straight forward update its a royal pain in the a$$ to find a file that works and is complete.
ventis86
27 Mar 17 #163
decided to take a punt. think I'm similar to a lot of you here - loved pes 2-5 but switched to fifa last gen. £8 is a small gamble though so let's see what it's like.
djaydearz
27 Mar 17 #164
If your internet is bad, it mainly lags the on the other user (not you), as a result you can dominate a game purely because its unplayable for the other user.
It is unlikely that they have "clubbed together" to get you banned, but rather individual complaints/reporting
Hazuki192
28 Mar 17 #165
The PESuniverse option file is a game changer (literally). I used an external hard drive to install it but had trouble initially (the hard drive had to be in FAT32) - if I remember correctly you didn't need to unzip the file at all.

I'm currently on my 10th season of Master League and played a ton of online with a friend - this is incredible value for money. If you are a FIFA fan and curious, do it.
ventis86
28 Mar 17 2 #166
yes, the v3 option file has everything but competition logos which are available in v2. the club pack takes about 20 minutes to install and the national team pack takes maybe 5. the only manual editing is changing league names and emblems but it is so easy.
RebTheRebel
28 Mar 17 1 #167
I'm still on the fence on buying this. I think it ends tonight. I'm a noob when it comes to the editing etc, where did you get the file from for V3 if you don't mind linking please. Just so I know I get the latest up to date etc rather than tug my hair (what's left of it) out.
Cheers.
ventis86
28 Mar 17 #168
its honestly a doddle. v3 is here https://www.pesuniverse.com/pes-universe-option-file-v3-free/ and the v2 is on the same site too. when downloaded you will get the files with a helpful readme file. it is a long process but completely automated, you just need a usb stick a coffee and a bit of patience!

Aside from Champ Man 01/02 this was probably the game i invested most time into in my life.

I say "was" as i ended up getting totally scunnered with it five or six years ago. The one with Adriano & Terry on the cover i got inside top 350 on the xbox live leaderboards and fancied my chances against anyone; Inter Milan were unplayable - and vastly over rated - with Zlatan and Adriano if you knew how to use them properly.

Then came the sequel and it all went to ****. I don't even think i have played a demo since. Going to change now and giving this a go for such a good price :-)
