You don't have to ask for your prescription, see when your optician gives you the orange slip of paper at the end of your eye exam? That's your prescription.

They don't do my strength of glasses otherwise I'd be totally all over this :disappointed:

Terrible service here didn't reply to a single message of mine only started making the glasses 3 weeks after ordered an only because i put in a paypal claim

I placed an order for some glasses and provided all the required information from my prescription. After a few days they requested a copy of my prescription even though they already have the necessary information to process my order so it just an added delay to completing my order. Not impressed so far and I often buy glasses online using different companies.

Several people on here have said that they have been offered this. I’ve never tested it because Goggles4u are cheaper.

Just a note for anyone buying that the process is not a quick one. I'm happy to wait but if you need glasses asap then maybe this is something you may want to consider.

It would appear me questioning the logic of buying a pair of glasses without ever having tried them on for size or seeing if they suit you or not was deemed inapporiate, how bizarre?

Blimey like how left field of me to take the route of going to an optician and actually trying lots of different styles/brands on before making an informed decision on which ones suit best thus are fit for purpose :smirk:

Do they send that offer straightaway once you have brought the glasses.

I only wear glasses for watching tv and driving. I have a pair for driving which do have coatings, but the ones for tv don't have any coatings and they're fit for purpose

I just mentioned this and they've fully refunded them as a gesture of good will - great result! Be careful as they do explicitly say in the terms and conditions:

"We are unable to offer a full refund for reason of glasses being ‘ill fitting’ or ‘non-aesthetically pleasing’. However, at our discretion, we may offer an exchange for another product within a similar price range or a credit voucher code to use at a later date."

Saying that, they are clearly versatile and haven't taken longer than an hour to get back to my emails. Overall great customer service (just check the sizing!):laughing:

So Scratch resistant & Anti-reflection coatings cost £19 if you add them to the order, but if you don’t add them to the order, they email you and offer to add them for £9. They could enhance their reputation by being more honest and making the price £9 to start with. Even better simply make the coatings standard on all glasses.

Just spotted the email saying mine have been shipped again, will see what this pair is like.

My converse glasses arrived about a week ago

I got the Collect + option too. Was it a completely free return? I take it you had prescription lenses in them?

My superdry ones were incorrect, and I was sent a free collect+ label to return them. They're currently back in the lab being checked.

Don't get me wrong, if I was in a rush I'd go elsewhere, but I'm not. At £28 (I think?) for a decent looking set of glasses I don't mind waiting. The optician said my changes were so small this time round that I don't need new ones really, so this is just to try out the new prescription really before I decide to order a pair of reactive lenses.

Weird, my Superdry ones arrived and were also too small. I contacted their CS and got a free Collect + option to return them, which I did yesterday. So far the CS seems pretty good.

I just had an email saying mine will be dispatched this week.

I ordered from them last time. Be careful with the sizing - I ordered some converse glasses that can only be described as children's glasses - I looked ridiculous. They charged me £14.99 to return them. All in all, although friendly on the phone I would rather stick to somewhere like Glasses Direct whereby you can try before you buy. Just a heads up!

I believe they have been outsourcing for some time now. As the glasses are actually made up in Pakistan, time needs to be allowed for shipping etc.

I made an order on the 10th April and last email I got from them was on the 11th asking if I want the £9 anti-glare coating.. since then, nothing.. I've got a very simple order and a common frame so not sure whats taking so long.. my previous two orders from glassesdirect.co.uk been far quicker and they kept me update ever step of the way..

I ordered my glasses on 31st March. After having a few emails about getting my lenses ready, I hadn't heard anymore since 4th April. I emailed 2 days ago and apart from the auto response saying we are working through emails as quickly as possible, I haven't heard anything. I've ordered from them a few times before, but this is the slowest they've been so far.

So many??? One not happy about delivery although still within stated time, one cancelled order as out of stock, and one wrong delivery but customer happy with Customer Service and on here defending the company.

For me it was pretty simple, I just wanted a spare pair I could leave at work. I was fine that it could be a wait for delivery.

I don't really know why people would order glasses from somewhere on account of price alone but that's what seems to be the case here and it's hardly going swimmingly for many of these punters contributing to this thread is it?

Obviously I been keeping an eye on this thread as I wear bins myself but they don't exactly stock/supply brands that are what you would describe as 'sought after' high end names as it is.

Thing is to then to be slower than a geriatric slug with no slime and worse clearly not even have stock of what you supposedly supply suggests they might never "eventually turn up" so you won't be very happy will you :smirk:

Some ideas of the timeline for my personal experience:
13th April - order placed
17th April - Your Prescription Has Been Dispensed (Authorised By Our Opticians)
19th April - Your lens are being manufactured to your personalised prescription. Once received, our lab will glaze your glasses and we'll send you an email when they have shipped.
19th April - Unfortunately it has come to our recent attention the frame chosen has now been discontinued and is no longer available to order.
19th April - Refund received back to my PayPal account.

20th April - New order placed with http://www.fashoneyeware.com (20% discount on their website banner). Not as cheap, but Oakley frames rather than Bench.

Some Bench prescription glasses that were in the sale. I ordered black, when I checked their website yesterday (trying to find an alternative), they had them listed, but only in brown.

I don't really know why people order glasses from somewhere knowing that they might take a few weeks to arrive if they are not prepared to wait. If you are in urgent need of glasses go somewhere where you can get them much more quickly. If not presumably most people have a pair they are using already so can wait a while for the new ones to come. If they're decent when they eventually turn up and the prescription is correct then I'll be happy.

I've had good service so far, apart from the glasses having a problem. They've been good at responding to emails, they sent a prepaid label to send the glasses back (which I only did yesterday as I've been away), now I'll see if they sort the problem. If this all goes well I'll get some reactive lenses ordered.

Clearly don't need to try because I'm getting to know this firm more and trust them less with each new post added to this thread :man:

Very slow service here Specky. I ordered 30th March and still stuck on personalising lenses ... not even been dispatched yet. Was a punt really to see how good the lenses are before buying more but at this rate will be waiting a long time before getting any glasses.

Nobody had to push bins on me, when one day it hit me I couldn't make out the attendances underneath the match results in the currant I knew it was time to get my mincers tested.

Got the eye test somewhere or other but seeing at the time I was knocking off some bird in Brum that worked for Dollonds I gave her the prescription who proceeded to get me the frames and lenses at a significantly lower rate than RRP.

No point knowing people that can do you turns and then not utilise those favours is there? :wink:

But how did you know D&A were safe? They really tried to push glasses on me once, and tried to refuse giving me my prescription, so I went right off them!

How do you get to know and trust anyone if you don't try? My absolute cheapest pair were from glasses direct, but when I got my eyes tested last month they tested the glasses too and they were spot on.

My specky order was actually wrong, but they've already sorted the return out. The lens is fine but the axis is wrong in the left one, no problem I'll just get them replaced.

I made a mistake on my prescription, sent a message and it was corrected pretty swiftly. No complaints from me.

I remember Gameseek getting a pull for coming on here and giving themselves added exposure a few months ago which is why I said it.

As for Speckyfoureyes, never even heard of em before seeing this thread but in my humble opinion you don't compromise on your mincers. Eyesight is a health matter and thus paying more will generally turn out to be the only sensible and more economical option in the medium to long term.

As someone that can't even see the end of his nose without his bins on I also of course hope those with issues here get them sorted ASAP.

I bet they won't use this outfit again afterwards though, it may sound harsh but I would only stick to someone I know and trust which this firm definitely is not.

Maybe. All I know is that there are user accounts on HUKD from Quidco, Gearbest etc that will offer assistance/advice etc in threads or deals relating to their organisation.

I'm not defending Speckyfoureyes, just saying the accounts aren't there for self-promotion.

And hopefully they'll sort out the user issues posted above

There appears to be a number of unhappy punters in this thread who would dispute that as they don't seem to be benefitting.

It's like promising the earth and/or disputing what customers say which amounts to self promotion which is not supposed to be allowed from how I understand it.

I'm not a member of the thought police but I've always understood it that this site is for punters to post deals and not say like Trustpilot where retailers pay for the right to officially respond to customer issues that arise.

I had my eye test and ordered a pucka pair of Armani bins from John Lewis in Westfield a week before Christmas and got them Christmas Eve :sunglasses:

Mine arrived wrong, the axis in the left eye is way out! I need to rotate the glasses over 45 degrees to see, just sorting the returns now.

I ordered basic reading glasses from them. Took 10 weeks to arrive. No replies to emails.

Interesting - i would also considider anti glare / anti scratch for £9 ... £19 is a too steep IMO when it's offered free as standard at stores like selectspecs where i have purchased happily in the past.

I've ordered and have immediately been offered anti-glare / anti-scratch coatings for £9 (instead of £19). Worth it or not? I had my eyes tested yesterday and the prescription changed so I'm just looking for a new pair to try out my new prescription in truth before ordering other pairs / sunglasses etc.

The tint states UV400, shouldn't matter on the lenses?

This is hot. Not sure if Specky2 lenses protect from UV, so bought a pair of Comverse sunglasses without lenses for £23.99 inc p&p. Will get them glazed elsewhere. Nice :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi, the missus has just asked me to order her some new glasses.

I've managed to enter the Sphere, Cylinder and Axis but just below that she has a Distance acuity (R 6/7.5+ and L 6/6) and Near acuity (R n4.5 and L n4.5).

This may sound like a dumb question but where would I enter these details?

However they are NOT obliged to give you the interpupilliary distance. They might, if you ask nicely. Something along the lines of "I know I've taken advantage of your heavily subsidised eye test and measured up all the glasses in your expensive high street premises, but I'm hoping to save a few quid by buying my glasses from an on-line retailer with no customer premises to pay for. Would you mind measuring the distance between my pupils for me?"

I'm going to sound like a complete dumbass asking this question but how would you go about finding out what strength of glasses you need? Do opticians readily divulge this information?

My super dry ones arrived last week and spot on. They took about 3 weeks but not a problem. The missus has just ordered a couple of pairs too.
