I have this and it's brilliant! Had hair growth problem for many years, had electrolysis, all sorts of treatments. Had a few salon laser treatments which did get rid of a lot of hair. I now use this Lumea as "maintenance" and it's saving its price many times over. I prefer to control it myself, too (therefore it doesn't hurt), rather than the scary process of being zapped by someone else in what to me is an artificial setting of a beauty salon. Read the Amazon Reviews too... (I don't have any problem with the run-time of the battery like some do)

I've been using it for about 3 months - at first I couldn't get the hang of getting the positioning right and the "green light" to go ahead and zap didn't come on. But once I got the hang of it I could see amazing results within a couple of weeks. You have to continue every couple of weeks for a while because all the hairs are in different stages of growth and have to be zapped at the right time. But I've been amazed at the results for a home-based treatment

you can buy a lot of shaving blades for £199, just saying

The more you shave the thicker it will grow so I now shave once a week

what is the main difference between this and the SC2009/00, is it just and extra attachment? (and a few extra £hundred)

IV had this for nearly 3 year's. best thing I've ever owned :smiley:
i am scared because they have 20,000 lights or something then they finish.
i use this on my neck, chin, lip and sides.
lip took 3 months and the rest took 9 months.
every area is different, everyone's different i spose too.

IV saved money by doing threading.

I have. I notice zero difference in speed of growth, thickness, colour etc. I shave my facial hair every 2 days and have done for years. Even still, my observations were not measured scientifically so are equally susceptible to bias. So when scientific literature points to no measurable difference, my inclination is to believe credible evidence until I see something that proves otherwise. Unless you've measured the rate of growth, thickness and so forth under controlled conditions and are convinced it has an effect, in which case, carry on shaving once a week.

I have had treatment at a salon and found it permanent, I have previously used these machines and found them not effective.

Hi - yes I have the 2007. Not tried bikini line yet (I'm a coward!) - just delighted that the facial hair is under control, and now seeing brilliant results on legs. Others in this thread have had success in other areas, though. I'd be interested to hear of anyone who's tried it on bikini line too.

should also add I read on a forum that th 2009 bikini attachment doesnt fit the 2007 - even though the pics look like they do - no idea if true

Are these any good on blonde hair though (as in almost translucent)? Used to be that these things were best on dark hair.

The sensation of the zap is really very low. Nowhere near a "pain" and not at all unpleasant. It's that fear the first time you try anything! All in the mind, and once you've plucked up courage, you think "that really wasn't worth all that worrying!" It's probably our body/mind's own natural precautionary reactions. Takes me a little while to build up the courage to overcome them. Now the real pain of the salon's version - that IS a pain! I've had 5 children and would rate salon laser treatment as worse than childbirth. Shorter but sharper, and literally brought tears to my eyes. The Philips one is a walk in the park after that!

I agree with all of that. I have a few white hairs which still sprout and grow happily in the desert of where there used to be masses of dark brown/black hairs (even though the hair on my head and skin colouring is "fair")

emmm i disagree evidence ive experimented on myself and also seen on others. Example during secondary school you will get a few boys that try shaving for the purpose of growing a beard to look older, even though they have no hair. So they shave and it grows, may not have a full beard but wherever you shave where hair is intended and sometimes not, hair will grow. So how does hair grow on a place with no hair. Well you have have them already, they are microscopic. now if we took your logic and applied it by shaving an area with no hair, hair would not grow. whereas if you take real life instances where a teenager would apply a blade to apart of where a beard may grow, hair grows. so does that not make hair thicker as they were microscopic.Your current seeds may remain the same or grow thicker, but you have new ones always growing which will grow thicker by the blade. Each hair has a degree of thickness it can reach.


Personally for me it grows thicker everywhere except for on my head, and it probably doesn't grow thicker on my head because I am loosing my hair.

You experimented on yourself under controlled scientific conditions? Please share your peer-reviewed research so I can compare it to research carried out by actual scientists that debunked this myth as far back as the 1920s.

Hair growth is determined below the surface of the skin, in the dermis, where a tiny tube called a hair follicle is located. The follicle determines a hair's colour, consistency and thickness. People have thicker beards, for example, because they have more hair follicles on their face. Genes, hormones and age all influence how many hair follicles a person has. Nothing you do can increase that amount. Teenagers are not fully formed adults, and depending on age / genetics / environmental factors - are still going through puberty, growth spurts, hormonal changes. This affects the rate of growth, shaving has nothing to do with it. Your example is called an anecdote, this is not evidence.

Again, how do you know it's actually growing thicker without measuring it? Observations and memory can be notriously unreliable and subject to confirmation bias. My girlfriend used to believe in this myth and would only shave once a week. After I convinced her it was a load of rubbish, she does it much more regularly and noticed no increase. But that's an anecdote - not scientific evidence. Please study this picture, I don't mean this to be patronising, but you seem to really struggle telling the difference between anecdotes and scientific studies.
