I've had three sonicare brushes in a row that died before a year was up. Philips always replaced then without a problem but they are rubbish. I am using another brand next time...

There was an older head variety PowerUp (Sonicare's battery range) that got rave reviews and was apparently as powerful (31,000 strokes) as the rechargeables at the time. Sonicare's current PowerUp range gets pretty bad reviews if I remember right. Powered by 2 x AAs.

It's obvious manufactures do not actually care about saving the planet. That's just marketing.
Otherwise you would see products that are compatible between generations and things like that.
The only reason with have a fairly universal micro-usb charger connector is because the EU imposed it.

Sorry Mine is a Pulsonic 'Smart' series which is still new enough not to have the battery problems, but I can't find any information about a battery change on that. It's the type with the LCD thing which times your brushing.

I have not bought from the following eBay seller and similar batteries from other brands may be cheaper or better. It is though important to measure the existing battery as production varied with what got fitted to the toothbrush.

I believe the sonic Oral B uses a 3V battery which are difficult to source. In todays supposedly 'green' eco friendly world it seems odd that manufacturers should be allowed to produce products whose life is determined by what would normally be a consumable item.

I have the Braun sonic toothbrush & before that the Sonicare. There are a couple of gripes with all of them.

Battery life. All rechargeables are going to die at some point so why on earth do they not make them replaceable?

Cost of brushes can be high but the Bosch ones seem cheaper and much more plentiful, however there are reports of fakes around.

I've used SonicAir brushes for the last 15 years - so have ordered a couple of these - it will be interesting to compare!

I have looked at studies comparing both - and it's a minefield. Often you find the studies are sponsored by one or the other on the quiet - I think unbiased personal experience is more telling. Don't know any Oral B users, so can't comment on the competitor.

Personally I've only ever used a rechargeable bottom of the range Oral B around 10 years ago, and it didn't improve my oral health over the year or so I had it (going by fillings/dental treatments during that period). But that's not really a fair comparison.

At the risk of being a sonic toothbrush bore (as I've mentioned it on a few Sonicare threads!) my dentist said a few years back (when I first started on sonic brushes, my first two were Ultrasonex) - "whatever you're doing to your teeth these days, keep doing it".

I didn't even tell him I was using Ultrasonex (moved on to Sonicare after that - on my third) but I did ask him which brush he recommended (Oral B or Sonicare) and strangely, didn't seem to want to choose (maybe dentists only recommend a brand if they're selling it??). He simply said, "Both are good".

Using manual brushes, I seemed to be getting ever more fillings through the years - when I started on sonic brushes all I've ever had has heen replacements (fillings that were breaking down/wearing away over time).

£7 a head is pretty expensive

Heat added. Good price. A shame the brush heads are more expensive than other brands. Still ~£30 per year isn't much of a premium for brush heads for taking good care of your teeth. Well, as long as you correctly use the item.

Only thing that would put me off would be the availability of replacement heads - but I love my Sonicare :smiley: Sonic toothbrushes are highly recommended :smiley:
