I sent STOP PACK that anonimousse suggested. Then I got automated response from EE saying I've moved onto their standard rates for texts/calls. Hopefully that should do the trick.

You need to make at least 1 chargeable call/text every 120 days to keep the SIM and credit live. The pack starts when you make the first call/text and will cost £1 per seven day period.

Thanks for your help. It says that the 7 day pack starts as soon as you start using it... so I guess if the phone doesn't get used at all then the credit will just sit there until deactivation.

It's been about 15 years since I purchased a PAYG phone so can someone clarify the following...
I want to buy this for my Mum for emergency use only and I do not want to have to top-up at all. I just want to put it in her greenhouse and forget about it. However in the ebay listing it goes on about activating a 7 day talk and text package which then renews every 7 days... so does this mean I will need to keep topping it up?
Thanks

As it comes with top up it will take £1 every 7 days until you have non left unless you opt out (if possible). And I think sim needs to have activity every 6month to have stop it from being deactivated. But if it's no emergency calls only ly like 999 than you don't need an active sim.

Beware anyone buying this handset for use via Bluetooth.. it lacks the required Bluetooth protocols and does not work as I found out when buying to replace my damaged work phone. Luckily the store swapped for me. Better off with the MobiWire handset at the same price.

The Bluetooth on these phones is data only and not voice

No problem. No. Just google 'ee unlock' and the website says this-(see paragraph 3)
"If you’re on pay as you go, you can unlock your phone as soon as you get it, as long as it’s locked to EE, Orange or T-Mobile. Your pay as you go account must be registered with your details for us to unlock a pay as you go device. Register or manage your account >
You must also ensure the device has not been reported as lost or stolen.
There are no charges for unlocking for pay as you go devices bought from EE and our indirect partners. We’ll need to check other devices to confirm where and when they were bought. Pay monthly devices used on pay as you go will be subject to pay monthly rules and checks."
You have to register the device and set up my ee which just means giving an email address and the payg number, but then it's done.... when you fill out the unlock form at the end of has the old message that they charge £8.99 but I ended up ringing (I didn't register my ee correctly and therefore it didn't unlock) and the guy on the phone said it's free
I think new law came in last year about phone locking. Pretty sure O2's policy changed too

Thank you for your reply, but does EE not charge for unlock codes?

True, but you should be able to use a ASDA Mobile SIM (uses the EE network), they have good "Pay As You Go" prices.

I bought two of these from EE.. one online (£10.79), one instore (£10). It was essentially an error on my part but rather than return one I am selling it to a reputable high street retailer for £16 cash.
With regards to unlocking them. I rang EE customer services on Sunday. I was told that they do not have unlock codes on site but they put a request to Nokia and said it would be five working days to receive them.
Today, Tuesday (aka the second working day) I have received emails from EE with unlock codes and instructions that have successfully removed the network restriction. It's a very easy process, one phone call, then tapping some buttons and it's done
If I do get £16 I will probably sell both units (providing I can still be order another through eBay). I would have spent £20.79 and have sold the phones for £32. Not much profit, but I'll also still have the two SIM cards with £10 credit on each, could sell them for half of what they are worth and still be quids in!

The new version of the Nokia 3310 will almost certainly not be available for at least a few months yet. And apparently the price will be around £42.
