The 720p IPS display on the switch is really nice, Far better than the ones on Wii U and 3DS. I'd go far as to say better than the screen on the vita.
As for ergonomics. I have pretty big hands so I do struggle a bit in handheld mode (it's not uncomfortable but it could be better). When using the JoyCon grip - it's really nice. Played Zelda for many hours at a time and haven't had any cramp in my hands like I can get from the 3DS.

I like the concept of this, and think it's going to become a really attractive console in time. The 3ds' library was brilliant, but the resolution always annoyed me, and there were some great games on the Wii U despite the poor sales. If Nintendo can pull all of that publishing capacity onto one platform, it's going to be something worth having.
How are people who've picked one up finding the actual hardware though, now you've had a week to play with it. Is it ergonomic? How's the screen in handheld mode? The pictures make the bezels look quite big.
I'm sure I'll end up picking one up, but I'm unsure if I'll get one later on in the year or wait for a hardware revision. (Playing Zelda on Wii U for now!)

The most powerful handheld console - Not sure where the hardware specs have been sacrificed...
Can't speak for the general population but I haven't noticed most of these issues. Screen is still perfect. Struggled to get the wrist strap off the joy cons a couple of times but once you figure out how you're meant to do it - it's not hard at all.
Only thing that bothers me is the Left Joycon will sometimes cut out - I have noticed that. But the fact that he right Joycon isn't affected nearly as much suggests this is in the console firmware.
From what I can tell these issues affect a very small minority.

 expect a redesign very soon, this is what happens when they not only sacrifice hardware specs but also sacrifice built quality, design, engineering and quality control to max profit :
There are various serious issues with Nintendo Switch Design and new version might get released soon to fix them, some really annoying ones are;
* Dock scratching the screen and of low quality.
* Issue with screen.
* Issue with the software causing the Switch to fail.
* Design issue with Joybars.
managed to get one Neon from Zavvi + Zelda, for £340. With 10% code so £305 for Switch + Zelda.

Disappointing reviews so far, one good game and otherwise a brick since it's not got any standard tablet features. Can't believe nintendo managed to convince Nvidia to cancel their own gaming tablet for this thing. Think I'll stick with just emulating old nintendo game and playing new PC and android games.

Maybe the Fifa game is a ridiculous comparison, but from my perspective the PS4/Xbox One certainly isn't, neither of them had a compelling reason to buy on the release day, for me at least, nor does the Switch.
Expensive consoles and expensive games, that's the penalty of early adoption, no point whining about it, you either have to have one or you don't and can wait, hoping the price drops. Though I'd be surprised to see Nintendo dropping the price of the switch by as much as either of the competing consoles over the last few years.

no stock anywhere near luton :disappointed:
also anyone know if they will bring games likes skyrim or gta on the nintendo switch?
If Nintendo don't show some more games for the unit soon, I wouldn't be surprised if some re-sellers drop it down to £250 with a game by summer...If it's still in stock right now, the demand for the unit is not likely to increase until Winter when Mario is released.
In many ways the way Nintendo have managed the Switch launch makes it a worst prospect than the Wii U was on day one...Is Zelda on the Switch really that much better than the Wii U version?

You don't *need* to buy a MicroSD card or a pro controller. Zelda runs better in handheld mode rather than docked and the joy-cons work for handheld use. I don't know why people say you need to spend a fortune buying all the accessories as they really aren't needed.
Saying that the joy-con grip isn't ideal as it's a bit too cramped so if you intend to primarily use it in docked mode then a pro controller would be better.
It only comes with 25.9 Gb free but most people are going to buy a physical copy of Zelda, and Fast RMX the other game well worth buying is download only but is less than 1 Gb in size. So I don't need a MicroSD card at the moment. The size of the switch games are a lot smaller than PS4 and Xbox One.
Further down the line when Virtual Console is available then for sure a MicroSD is going to become essential but you absolutely don't need one right now. I've not bought a single accessory and loving my Switch and Zelda especially, don't be fooled into thinking you have to buy a load of overpriced extras.

There's always one PC master race.
Ha, yeah just 'stick in' a new GFX card! hahaha, comedic sweeping generalisation!
First off, 'most people' do not have PC's, with the advent of tablets and smartphones the need for a home PC has actually dropped massively, and a large portion of those that do either have architecture that won't support the 100 quid gfx card you speak of, and most won't even have a sufficient power supply, and a large number of them will own laptops.
PC's are also mostly large and fugly, i like the design and size of say the PS4, i also like the fact i can link with my Vita and play PS4 games there.
All consoles have portability that desktop gaming PC's don't have, i can stick my PS4 into a bag, and take it with me on vacation .
Sorry, prefer gaming on a console, got tired of hardware specific bugs, crashes etc, PC gaming is just dull, problematic and ultimately more expensive. It also can be a bit of a faff, with a console most of the time it's a case of switching it on and sticking a disc in and go, not messing around with settings, overclocking gpu's/ cpu's and god knows what else. There's always an issue somewhere with a random piece of hardware and some game.
You say that the games are slightly cheaper on PC, but i was never better off when PC gaming, even when pirating most of the software, because a new video card comes out all too often, and you feel compelled to upgrade and it's very easy to get into a rut where you're upgrading all the time, latest games demand more and more, things like Direct X is upgraded every 2 years, and then you get games that won't run, so you need upgrades, that usually ends up with a new GFX card, CPU, memory, motherboard, etc etc etc. Been there, done that and for the marginal graphic improvements, most of which aren't really that important, it's just not worth messing around with.
Even if console gaming is slightly more expensive for similar hardware, so what? i feel you spend less in the long run, either way It's not an issue to me
You enjoy PC gaming, you crack on, but it amuses me when PC gamers come here thinking they've found the holy grail and everyone else is missing out.
Anyway , i think i made my point, you can't compare a gfx card on its own, and try to make out that's all you need to have something better than a PS4, it ain't
Even if you could scrape together a ps4 beating PC for similar money, it will look terrible, and be as portable as a pallet of bricks
Consoles are still going strong today for a reason, such as this new Nintendo and that's because there is a demand. Go join a PC forum instead of preaching here

Most people have PC's, stick in a £100 gfx card and link up to your TV. You benefit from significantly cheaper games, higher FPS, much better quality graphics and a mind blowing back catalogue that goes back as far as you would want. Okay, add £30 for an Xbox controller.
The only thing you can't replicate is Nintendo games or portability.
The perfect combo:
PC's for your Mass Effect, COD's, Battlefields etc.
Switch for your Mario and Zelda fix

Never once said I was a pro player. I was mocking the bloke who said PSVR was for pro players.
I know what a mature game is, I'm primarily a PC gamer.
But I'm not narrow-minded (or 12) and believe that a game doesn't have to have a mature theme to be enjoyable. Zelda is an incredible experience, regardless of age. It is one of the very few games that you switch on at 8pm and you are still playing at 7am the following morning.,

For those wondering about the joycon issues, Nintendo have finally commented and have said that these steps should be taken.
"Ensure your console has the latest system update.
Ensure the Joy-Con controllers are charged. How to
Try to decrease the distance between the Joy-Con and the Nintendo Switch console.
Ensure that the Nintendo Switch console is placed to minimize interference with the Joy-Con. It is best if the Nintendo Switch console is placed out in the open and that it is not:
Behind a TV
Near an aquarium
Placed in or under a metal object
Pressed against a large amount of wires and cords
Within three to four feet of another wireless device, such as a wireless speaker or a wireless access point.
Check for possible sources of interference and turn them off. Interference can be caused by devices, such as:
Laptops, tablets, etc.
Wireless headsets
Wireless printers
Microwaves
Wireless speakers
Cordless phones
USB 3.0-compatible devices such as hard drives, thumb drives, LAN adapters, etc.
In most cases it will be enough to move these devices three to four feet away from the Nintendo Switch console and/or Joy-Con controllers. However, if you continue to experience this issue, please power these devices off while using the Nintendo Switch console."
Hilarious comments section on this thread, so let me recap:
To be a pro gamer you need a PSVR.
To be a serious gamer you need a 1080Ti (which isn't even out yet).
Zelda BotW is the best game ever made, less than 24 hours after it came out.
Hilarious!
I wish people would learn it's actually ok for others to have a different opinion to you, it's makes a healthy society.

This war of mine.
The Witcher series.
System Shock series.
Silent hill.
Amnesia.
Mass Effect.

It's got one of the most highly rated exclusives of all time, so I'd argue that it has a decent exclusive going for it.
My only quibble so far, apart from the frame dipping in Zelda, and the lack of games and the not-great battery life and the price, is the way it sits in the dock There's a bit too much wobble for my liking and I can see it being easy to damage the screen if you're not careful (I believe there's a bit of a story already, but I've not looked into it).

The left controller keeps disconnecting, the screen is plastic, Zelda performs better on the Wii U vs docked mode and they look the same but 180p of resolution, there are no good exclusives for it and **** the online is dodgy right now.
I bought one today because I could, but it's crap, I mean the joy con will freak out if I put it near anything... wtf? How did this get through testing? Oh yeah and there is no headphone jack anywhere but the system, so you cannot use headphones, not even wireless ones.

I know you weren't suggesting. But I can imagine fan boys making out something is faultless when in reality it's not. Ive played about 1.5 hours on the tv and about past 2 hours on the handheld. Also some of the tv was with the pro controller. I appreciate websites saying this and that, but I trust what's in front of me. I actually have it in my hands and it's been problem free, faultless so far. I am yet to start bomberman R properly as yet. Just had a mess around, look at modes etc earlier.

Not a fan boy, have all consoles and I am still not entirely happy with the lack of games coming out for the switch. Although happy to add, there is some neo geo games on virtual console. Think they are £6.49 approx each. Just glanced this morning.

Hard to say what's your cup of tea. I read a lot of non spoiler casts about people who have 70 hours already in. Their take on the story. Zelda OOT I loved and every zelda since hasn't overly done it for me. So far ticks all the boxes, with a idea how the story is going and what I've learned so far. For me it's the sequel I wanted.

Other users on other forums are also stating that the problem still exists. With Nintendo's lack of comments, it's hard to pin down what is causing it for some and not others. I saw one person who has it so bad that the controls refused to work unless in direct view of the console itself. The controllers could be susceptible to some interference it seems.
In regards to Zelda, there are lots of videos now showing the framerate issues occurring on both Switch and Wii U. The game isn't silky smooth on either platform (I think IGN's comparison video shown a second long freeze on Switch too). It's not unplayable by any means though. You must not be sensitve to framerate drops which is a great thing really.
I'm holding off a while. Need a Donkey Kong and Mario game at the least before I "switch" from Wii U.

When I started the switch it hard two updates, after which I have used controllers well over two metres and it's fine. No lag, no sinq issues. Also people said zelda does have rate freeze issues. Playing for 3.5 hours now and haven't had any slow down, no errors, been silly smooth. Not had one issue with the system or games as yet.

I don't get why people keep making excuses for the switch. We should want it to be more competitive. That's not to say you're not allowed to like it, but there are clearly flaws, though of course some will probably be worked on in time. There's 2 flaws comparing it to launch prices. Firstly it ignores how the the product actually holds up by itself in the market, secondly it ignores the fact that we may not get any deals. You had to be lucky to get a deal on the Wii U which was obviously a flop. Hopefully there will be some good deals later on in the year.
One thing that does surprised me was how much of a rip off the ps3 was at launch. I got impatient since it launched late.

I got this delivered from amazon prime this morning. Original Nintendo conference I was put off by this console. Underpowered, few games, mostly old wii u games etc. Then I've seen a lot of YouTube videos which have sold the console more.
Today I received the console, pro controller, Zelda, bomberman R and a travel case.
So far I am very impressed, feels far more premium then the wii u. Enjoyable playing it different ways and the screen is sharp and easily has the best graphics of any handheld device. Pro controller is worth it (although I did use a voucher code) but playing on the tv, it's much more comfortable and you can play games better.
Bomberman is good fun, although there isn't much depth. Paid £38 and personally I would have waited until £20-25 tops.
Zelda....... amazing! Graphics, story, gameplay, whole package. A lot better then I thought it would be. About three hours in so far and I can see why it's getting a 10/10 review. Yes you can get it on the wii u, but I prefer playing it differently. Tv and mobile.
Yes it's cost me a lot of money, but I am happy with it. Zelda will last a while but we do need to see a lot more games.

I imagine the apology was a small crumb of comfort to the OP amidst the devastation they are feeling at you not considering this a deal.
That's incorrect and has been incorrect ever since the wii u launched with nnids. Games are tied to your Nintendo account through the NNID.
The problem with the Wii u was that the NNID was tied to the console and you needed Nintendo to sort out any restoration of the account.

It's only expensive if you buy it and then don't play it. If you play it every day then it's an investment. If you can't afford to then you shouldn't really be buying it until you can.

Impatiently waiting on my Amazon order arriving. Seriously can't wait to play Zelda.
Surprised anyone can consider PSVR as a "pro" gaming platform. I found it very gimmicky. Had it on loan from a mate for a month with heaps of games and after the initial wow factor (which is huge by the way) I just couldn't bring myself to sit and play games looking like an even bigger tool than usual wearing that monstrosity. I want games for playing with friends and no, I don't mean online and I certainly don't mean with a great big helmet on.
Anyway, why bring any of that up here in any case?! Switch will find it's market and will do well - no need to bog down every bloody deal thread on it.

* Dock scratching the screen and of low quality.
* Issue with screen.
* Issue with the software causing the Switch to fail.

Expensive consoles and expensive games, that's the penalty of early adoption, no point whining about it, you either have to have one or you don't and can wait, hoping the price drops. Though I'd be surprised to see Nintendo dropping the price of the switch by as much as either of the competing consoles over the last few years.
Breath Of The Wild runs a bit smoother on PS4 Pro, but Switch beats it in the portability stakes.
It's also not comparable to a ps4 or Xbox one, in any way at all
You will gladly get an iphone upgrade every year or get the latest fifa out but moan about the price of a new console which is cheaper than the ps4/xbone at lunch.
also anyone know if they will bring games likes skyrim or gta on the nintendo switch?
https://store.nintendo.co.uk/nintendo-switch-console/nintendo-switch-with-neon-red-joy-con-neon-blue-joy-con-controllers/11396090.html
In many ways the way Nintendo have managed the Switch launch makes it a worst prospect than the Wii U was on day one...Is Zelda on the Switch really that much better than the Wii U version?
My local Sainsbury's had stock at £279 but the best deal I found was smiths toy store, they had plenty in stock and are doing an offer £320 with console and Zelda which which seems a good deal and a lot cheaper than Argos
Gonna wait for price drops and see.
Perhaps the console and a game for £299 by the summer maybe?
I'm really enjoying Nioh ;-)
Go join a PC forum instead of preaching here
The only thing you can't replicate is Nintendo games or portability.
The perfect combo:
PC's for your Mass Effect, COD's, Battlefields etc.
Switch for your Mario and Zelda fix
I mean even Nintendo themselves admitted it was a failure
let's see how long it takes for Switch. :smirk:
expect the redesigned model very soon.
I was gonna get it anyway because come on, I'm a Nintendo fan and I wanna support them, but I was a little displeased with the pricing and lack of games, but boy, I can't help but be impressed with what I got. Zelda is fantastic, and the console feels very premium, it's definitely worth the price. Big departure from the more cheap feeling of Wii/Wii U.
How dare you have another wireless device switched one when using the switch!
I know what a mature game is, I'm primarily a PC gamer.
But I'm not narrow-minded (or 12) and believe that a game doesn't have to have a mature theme to be enjoyable. Zelda is an incredible experience, regardless of age. It is one of the very few games that you switch on at 8pm and you are still playing at 7am the following morning.,
"Ensure your console has the latest system update.
Behind a TV

Within three to four feet of another wireless device, such as a wireless speaker or a wireless access point.

Wireless printers

Wireless speakers
Cordless phones
USB 3.0-compatible devices such as hard drives, thumb drives, LAN adapters, etc.
In most cases it will be enough to move these devices three to four feet away from the Nintendo Switch console and/or Joy-Con controllers. However, if you continue to experience this issue, please power these devices off while using the Nintendo Switch console."

Not having support for bluetooth headphones out of the box is unforgivable though
You can get around it easily, ( albeit at an added expense ) with one of These
The left controller keeps disconnecting, the screen is plastic, Zelda performs better on the Wii U vs docked mode and they look the same but 180p of resolution, there are no good exclusives for it and **** the online is dodgy right now.
I bought one today because I could, but it's crap, I mean the joy con will freak out if I put it near anything... wtf? How did this get through testing? Oh yeah and there is no headphone jack anywhere but the system, so you cannot use headphones, not even wireless ones.
Probably the worst console ever, I'm sending mine back already.
Well done everyone!
BOTW has 98%
Every single critic is 14 though so it doesn't count though.
Ratchet is deffo mature, not like any of these kidified Nintendo games.
PlayStation till I die, it's for pro gamers yknow...
I guess Donald Trump must be the most qualified person to be a president then. After all, so many people voted for him...
Must be why it's the second highest rated console game on Metacritic, ever! (After the equally child like Zelda OOT). Blooming kids.
They need to grow up and play average rated mature games like Ratchet and Clank!
£350 for just an accessory is sane
:man:
Loving my Nintendo Switch. So does my 7 year old
psvr doesn't really have that much on the horizon so far so at the minute its 300 for one game
I got a Switch instead of a PSVR and I'm going to put my switch on top of my ps4 and call it an add-on, I think it will give much better value.
definitely going to pre-order somewhere else next time
In regards to Zelda, there are lots of videos now showing the framerate issues occurring on both Switch and Wii U.
That chart is a disingenuous, low intellect fallacy of crap.
also can we use amazon gift vouchers on prime?
Think I'll wait, see what happens to pricing.
One thing that does surprised me was how much of a rip off the ps3 was at launch. I got impatient since it launched late.
Edit: Well that sucks!
From the Eurogamer article.
Review here claims still problem over 1m
The problem with the Wii u was that the NNID was tied to the console and you needed Nintendo to sort out any restoration of the account.
Just had mine delivered along with zelda not played yet as i'm working from home today. I have all three consoles along with psvr all are great in their own way.
I can see myself playing this most days while there are days between sessions on the XB1/PS PRO and PSVR the switch will succeed if nintendo produce great games and i'm hoping they will.
Basically, choose to follow one of those phrases above.
They also had plenty of Pro Controllers and other accessories.

I'm Nin, I've suffered with the same condition my whole life. I'd like to tell you 'things get better' but they don't and won't. So hang on in there.
Hi
I'm Rich and I have a problem....I am a consoloholic.....
It may help some find stock more easily in their area and also make them aware there's no need to pay a premium to the scalpers.
Heat added.
Should have been priced at £200. Think I'm going to wait until the first HW Revision before I take the plunge.
And yeah, "pro gamer" gets a hearty laugh from me.
We all know these things are over priced, yes you could wait till Xmas and get it cheaper, just like any console quickly drills in price nowadays, I for one am happy to pay a few quid over the top four the excitement of being one of the first to play what could be the greatest game ever made.
