Doesn't seem to be anyone doing bundles on the switch but saw in store adverts today for the midnight launch at smyths.

310 with bomberman (saving you 15 quid on bomberman) or 1-2 switch (saving a couple quid) or another that I cant remember

or

320 with zelda (saving maybe 8 quid on zelda depending where you buy it from)

This was only worthwhile for me cause i actually wanted bomberman but wasn't keen on paying 45 quid on it. Its still a better deal with zelda than most places which just charge you individually for each item.

I bit the bullet and walked into symths today. There were only 3 copies on the shelf. I feared how few copies nintendo has printed for the wiiu and i was confident that the price wont drop enough in the near future to even wait.

Just come back from midnight launch, can confirm these are correct offers.

Unfortunately they had no physical stock of either Bomberman, which I would have gone for, or Zelda in the Reading store. Had to do the £40 Zelda deal on the digital code.

Let's be honest, it's barely a console. I think they will upgrade it as this weirdly seems very much like a beta system.

I feel sorry for anybody that would pick up 1-2 switch instead of bomberman with this deal, or even in general. What kind of abomination is that..

Terrible launch all rides on one game. I cant really understand what is the point because of battery life its not really that portable and because of lacking internals its not a home console that moves its predecessor forward that much. The marketing is terrible everyone just thinks its a ds...

I think this might be Nintendo's Dreamcast... (except Dreamcast was awesome ) but a nail in the coffin for Nintendo.

I thought the WiiU was a excellent console from start to end but the switch has nothing going for it I hope that changes though.

so how managed to pick one on this morning  after Amazon failed to deliver. and they had 1 bomberman left. very happy bunny except working till 6

3 Mar 17 1 #41
Eh, I'll be waiting until these go down in price. If not then it depends if it gets a lot more games. For now I find it expensive for a console that underperforms or a tablet with missing features. I don't see any reason to rush out and get these unless you must play zelda right away (which would be fair enough if you do).

I Agree, was just playing devils advocate.. I think nintendo is going to focus on one console, no more dedicated handheld..

unless maybe we see a switch light in the future a smaller handheld with non detachable controls? although thats probably unlikely.

3 Mar 17 #35
I nearly went last night glad I didn't! That's so bad they advertised it as open.

It's safe to assume they're going to follow the 3DS format for several reasons.
It makes them more money. Nintendo hard-core buy every version.
Microsoft and Sony are doing it too with their own S versions.
Tablets are more powerful and cheaper to produce every year with no real r&d effort required on Nintendos part.
I'll be amazed if we don't see a thinner, lighter, longer battery life brighter screen version in 2018.

Ditto on Switch. The news gets worse according to the honest review free from fanboy nonsense at Arstechnica.com,

So there you have it. Nintendo's flagship game for Switch is riddled with performance problems and not only that it actually performs worse when docked  due to not being able to effectively process the higher resolution graphics despite the power boost.
atlast81
3 Mar 17 1 #24
just got mine in midnight opening
vulcanproject
3 Mar 17 #23
Other videos posted in the past couple of days with actual hardware disagree. We'll see about it when there is frame rate analysis but it appears that when docked, Switch absolutely has frame rate issues just like Wii U does. Whichever system you play it on you have less than perfect big screen gameplay.

The main difference appears to be the serious problems people have been having with Switch's joycons used more than a metre or two away from the machine when docked. This is allied to the fact you can't charge them separate to the machine without spending even more money, so it seems people mostly playing the games with it undocked. No notable performance issues then.
imdurc
3 Mar 17 #22
Incorrect. In a recent Gamespot podcast, they said there was a framerate issue when the Switch was docked, but not when used on-the-go. However, they quickly followed this up by saying that the framerate issue only happened the first time they played the game docked. On further boot ups, there were no framerate issues.

looks like my local sold our bomberman, base.com day release also sold out. I wasnt expecting software shortages
JC2MULTIPLAYER000 to blueflash
2 Mar 17 #12
It's weird right? It seems to be Nintendos new marketing tactic. They did it with Amiibo (and it worked) now maybe they're trying it with software sales. Maybe it will work since Nintendo have a small but loyal fanbase. Who knows. I just want a hardcopy of the new Zelda on Wii U for less than £44.99
domojamie to blueflash
3 Mar 17 1 #21
My local was marked as having no bomberman stock and had plenty. I got the only console not preordered though.
vulcanproject
3 Mar 17 #20
Apparently the game suffers low framerate when docked on the Switch too. The GPU clocks when docked isn't enough to make up for the extra resolution the game is also forced into rendering. If you want to play it on a big screen then it appears to hardly matter if it's on a Wii U or Switch.

With the Wii U's big screen advantages being the controller is better suited (i.e it actually works) unless you fork out again for the pro controller for the Switch.
meherenow
3 Mar 17 #19
Fair enough, I'll be enjoying my new Switch and Zelda tomorrow anyway - low frame rates on Wii U I hear.

And yes, Nintendo fan, that's why I'm buying the Switch at launch.
haritori
3 Mar 17 #18
I would hardly count the family edition that removed functionality hence why i left out the Wii mini.. expansions aren't exactly refinements and the only expansions we saw this side was the Memory PAK for N64 we never saw The 64DD and other than that not sure what expansion your referring too.

But like I said it depends how Nintendo sees this console.
vulcanproject
3 Mar 17 #17
Which you can also play on Wii U. Presumably already having one of those if you are a Nintendo fan. It's a steep price nonetheless for one game on currently flawed hardware. I wouldn't be in any hurry at all to get a Switch looking at the reported problems and lack of online, it's as if Nintendo launched this several months too early.

I don't think there is any doubt waiting for it to be a much better proposition later in the year is sensible.
satchef1
2 Mar 17 1 #16
The Wii went through 3 iterations. In addition to the original and the Mini, there was the family edition. Prior to that Nintendo's home consoles used expansions and add-ons to enhance functionality instead. The only console Nintendo haven't sought to expand and improve is the Wii U, likely because the Switch is the logical progression.

If the Switch is a success, I'd be surprised if they don't refine it in some way. They can't really use add-ons to enhance it as it's primarily a portable system.

If for no other reason this system is unfinished and buggy. Early adopters must expect a bunch of problems it seems. No need for anyone to rush in on it at this price and this early.
haritori
2 Mar 17 2 #13
It depends on how Nintendo see this system..

Nintendos handhelds all went through different iterations in their lifes

GB, GBC, GBA, SP etc..

DS, DSL, DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS, new 3DS (XL)

But non of the consoles have had redesigns (Wii mini aside)

So if this is a home console I wouldn't bet on a redesign, but if Nintendo plan on this Repalcing the DS line, then we may very well see a new design. the timescale of which based on previous models averages at about 18-24 months.
