Using the 20% off/credit deal at Very already posted this week, you can now get the brand new iPad 32GB (5th gen/new product to replace iPad air) as part of the deal. This has only been launched to order by Apple today and has only gone on the very web site today, wasn't available when the op posted what was already a fantastic deal with 20% off Apple products.

The deal works on any Apple product above £269 when you apply buy now pay later credit (12 months) - they then give you 20% credit thus reducing how much you owe. So a £339 iPad 32GB becomes £271.20 after the 20% credit, and there is £3.95 postage.

You have to place the order by the 27th March. I have just ordered the new iPhone SE 32GB, also launched today using this method. My order says I will receive by 29th March although initially it said 5th April.

Here is the original 20% off Apple products deal spotted the other day before this new iPad became available.

Yes an easy mistake to make
I thought it was a bit too good of a discount, 20% AND offering interest free BNPL. I used to work in the computer reseller world and the margins resllers make from Apple is a lot less than 20% that is for sure (more like 10-14%) so very are making up for this shortfall by banking on a high % of customers falling into the interest trap.
Billy8oy
27 Apr 17 1 #201
Exactly, and it could be a costly mistake! My iPad was £429 - but my last statement displays estimated interest as £179, by missing this delivery payment they could clobber you for the whole amount. Not only would you lose the 20% credit and BNPL facility, you could also end up paying interest - its scandalous really! I've checked my screenshots from the transaction and they do state there that delivery charge will be included on next statement, however distracted by a brand new shiny iPad its easy to miss, probably why they do it, and their interest charges are nearly 40% - I hope everyone that got one gets to see this post before it's too late!!!!
shakerstevens
26 Apr 17 #200
Good point, especially as it says this on my account summary page:
Delivery and installation charges are not included in Buy Now Pay Later.

But then on my transaction history page it says:
Items You Don't Need To Pay For Now 24 Mar 2017 XX002 Post And Packing £3.99 - Direct From Manufacturer

For the sake of £3.99 it makes sense we all pay this before our first statement payment is due.
As it happens I've set up a standing order to pay my item over the 12 months (in my case I divided total by 11 as I didn't want to risk going over 12 months!) so my first payment I've paid already more than covers the £3.99

Its very cheeky, no wonder so many people have issues with not getting their promo cash back with Very!
Billy8oy
26 Apr 17 #199
Anyone who has this deal be wary, I've yet to receive the credit on my account but like others on here I have screenshots etc and am happy to wait until the 2nd of May.

However what I have noticed is that I have a minimum repayment on my account for £3.99 , the iPad is the only item I have outstanding and that is on 12 months buy now pay later, after looking closer - in small print on my summary page it states that 'Delivery' charge is not on BNPL, so you must make sure if you have the
same you pay off that amount, I assumed that the total amount was on BNPL - This is not the case, and in their T&C's they state if you miss a payment they can withdraw promotional rates!!

"It's very important that you pay at least the minimum payment shown on every statement when it's due. If you're late we'll have to add account charges. Details of these are in your information sheet and agreement. We know you don't plan to miss any payments but sometimes things don't go as expected in life, and we don't want these charges to be a surprise if you do have a problem. Our promotional rates and Take 3 may also be withdrawn if you don't keep up with your repayments."

And all technology moves on doesn't it? It's up to you - if it does what you want it to do, nothing forces you to upgrade to the latest iOS release and app releases - only a few things stop working but that could happen with anything.

By the way, yes it is a premium brand so you pay your money and take your choice but the second hand resale value is excellent and Apple continue with updates for a few years unlike, say, my Samsung TV which was meant to have upgrade kits for a few years and only every got one.

Finally, all that aside... whether you like Apple or not, how is 20% discount of their largely consistent prices everywhere not a HOT DEAL!

I have an email from them saying offer valid until 27/3/17 - so I will be going off this and I will be ordering an iPad and Watch later tonight and if I don't get the 20% back then I will be sending ANOTHER email to the the chief exec's office (available on ceoemail.com) - I don't bother emailing/calling Very as they're all a bunch of numpties. A couple of times I've been in email contact with normal customer service and we've emailed each other back and forth around 10 times, they don't reply to your queries in the email, they reply with whatever they what to say. I don't waste my time now and just send an email straight to the top.

Ah, yes probably the case as it is first credit order. Better for me really, don't want to drag out payments over an extended period and rather have a straight discount than credit.

Not sure why they didn't offer me the 12 month one though. Only used Very once for a PS subscription a couple of years back.
Flodd
27 Mar 17 #164
Cool... mine doesn't show any discount on the offer as it's not due till May and the Ipad (for me) is a pre-order.

I suspect you might be using the 20% discount on first orders rather than the apple discount but it's all the same in the end.
alex_dis
27 Mar 17 #163
Got the order confirmation by email with the £85.80 discount already taken off. Double-checked my account and the same. Take 3 is definitely the payback option. Maybe, as other people have suggested, the offer you get depends on your account ?

I know it's Very but would be difficult to screw me over as it's all in black & white.
Flodd
27 Mar 17 #162
It didn't before? Take 3 wasn't included in the 20% so if confirm that with them prior to taking delivery.

alex_dis
27 Mar 17 #160
Didn't offer me the 12 month option for some reason, but did offer 'Take 3' so can pay back the amount after 3 months, which is fine by me. Plus it applies the 20% discount at checkout and none of this pay back credit to your account in May marlarkey.

So they recycled the old iPad Air stock, and just placed a new CPU on it...
Do people not realise what they're doing here?

Avoid it. They made the screen awful. It's like the original iPad Air screen where every touch feels like you're tapping hollow plastic.

Basically, it's the iPad Air 1 but with a better processor. Don't be fooled.

You can pick up a far better iPad Air 2 still on eBay and the likes brand new for around the same price.
zoso1313
26 Mar 17 #143
Very are absolutely fine if you play within the ground rules ie avoid 39.8% apr. If you're the type of person who will avoid paying off the item within interest only period or immediately, then I you've only got yourself to blame a not Very!

i purchased the Samsung fit2 recently off then, got on the 3 month deal, got 20% discount, paid over 3 months, which is EASY to so via online account...it's not 1984 anymore people, stop blaming the retailer when the problem is probably YOU when it comes to finance.

Customer service I've not had an issue either, I bought a B&W Zeppelin and Bluetooth went after 7 months, they could have sent me directly to B&W but instead they replaced for a brand new one.
edcor9889

Same situation with me,got a max credit of £750 only though and realised BNPL is not applicable to my account since £750 would not cover the item price+interest if I could not pay?I cancelled the Mac mini and yet they dispatched it even after 6 calls to them to cancel prior to dispatch!Had to decline the parcel and credit now reapplied but I have asked them to close my account as it's pointless having the credit if you cannot purchase what is needed.Awful CS,don't have a clue about anything

I have an Android tablet, an iPhone, a MacBook Air laptop, a PC desktop and a non-Apple fitness tracker watch. My experience of very is this, I bought and iPad Pro when they had the cash back of £100 offer a few months ago, I ordered it and now realise I didn't click the. BNPL option, when I eventually realised my error I spoke to Very via live chat and they "upgraded" the payment method to BNPL, I played innocent and said I was sure I had clicked BNPL but they said that I wouldn't get the credit as the BNPL wasn't applied at checkout as is required....However I just kept on at them via life chat, probably 3 chats of repeating myself more forcefully each time and they eventually applied the credit, even though it was really my own fault.

tl/dr: Just keep on at them and they will honour any offers

I've been shopping with Very for several years now and have only had one problem that was sorted by a couple of emails and me remembering to check my account. They let me order a kids car seat to a Collect+ place that wouldn't take it as the box was too big. They only told me that when I chased up where it was and suggested I reorder at the new higher price. After a complaint, they offered me the lower price and all was good.

Since then, I've never had a problem and the last time I returned something the amount was credited back to my account before I'd returned it, albeit with the condition that it would get stuck back on there if I didn't return the item.

Just to absolutely triple check... there is no code to input isn't there? I purchased this morning opening a new account and selecting 12 months. That's all I have to do right?

There were other codes available for new accounts but clearly state can't be used with other offers so I avoided them

The misses has a air 1 i believe would this be a upgrade
knack
25 Mar 17 1 #83
It seems they're trying to realign the range. Air 2 is so good that the upgrade to the Pro just didn't make sense for a lot of people and Apple probably want to change that.

When the Air 2 was released it was the top iPad and they continued to sell the Air for people wanting a lower price and who were not bothered about key features (e.g. laminated display, antiglare, thinner/lighter). Now these features are available exclusively on the Pro and this new iPad is there for people who want a good quality device at a decent price.

Although it has taken the place of the Air 2 it's not really a true replacement/upgrade - more of a sidestep.

Because the Air 2 still runs so well and I would like the laminated display/thinness I am seriously considering it over the new iPad to replace my 3rd gen, assuming I can find a newish 64GB in good condition for a bit less than the 32GB new one.

I agree i have used very for a few items including an ipad the last time they had an offer running and I have had no problems. The rare occasions that I have had to contact them they have resolved issues quickly and I hav always paid before the bnpl period has finished so no interest charges.

This happens because new version's of iOS require more RAM, the simple answer is to upgrade early, if performance drops then it's extremely simple to downgrade back to the previous iOS using itunes, you have to do it early though while they're still signing the previous iOS version.

I upgraded to iOS 10 on my ipad air and performance was horrible due to not enough RAM, not being able to scroll down in Safari is a perfect example of this.

Went back to iOS 9 and it's as fast as it ever was

No. An anti-glare screen protector is nothing like as good but if you don't have them side-by-side or in regular use you won't miss it. I had both an Air 2 and original Air and the Air 2 is very noticeably better.
tony43
25 Mar 17 #61
Mmm... so there is some mixed reaction to the lack of anti glare coating on the new ipads. Could I not get away with this with a anti glare screen protector? I'm in the market for a new iPad and my finger is waiting to pull the trigger. Not much in it price wise now between air 2 and new iPad 128gb. Prefer newer technology, but not if it's going to be compensated by screen glare. Thoughts?

alasdair67
25 Mar 17 1 #59
In that case I apologise.

My comment was obviously tainted by my cynical nature, my previous experience of Very, and the fact that I need sleep.

It seems the 128GB Air 2 is available for £459.99 (before 20% discount) which is the one I'd go for I reckon.

Oh, and there's the possibility of a potential 2% Quidco cashback too.

G'night all!

But it's 0% Apr BNPL for the first 12 months. So so long as you pay in full by or before 12 months you have paid 0% interest and also have received 20% credit/discount

BNPL is interest free for 12 months as I understand it, and you can pay it off as soon as you want I think
alasdair67
25 Mar 17 #56
Not sure this is a 'deal' as it seems you can't pay back until 6 months at the earliest. Given that you're only getting 20% off and the APR is 39.9%, well, you do the 'math'. While you do, it's a cold from me. I'm out.

Bit the bullet and ordered, I have an iPad Air at home that I reckon I'll get £200 for on a local selling site so £75 difference for an upgraded processor, Touch ID, an extra 16gb storage, some extra RAM and some degree of future proofing seems a decent deal - apple products may seem overpriced but they have decent resale value when you want to upgrade
plewis00

It's a noticeable downgrade but probably to lower the cost of entry to iPads and reduce scavenging iPad Pro sales, which the Air 2 did as it was basically the same with some niche features not included.

What I find interesting is that Apple put the equivalent cpu (SOC) into the iPad that they do into their phones. Samsung have announced there new S3 tab and charged 600 quid for the equivalent of an Galaxy S7 SOC. This iPad is the iPhone 6s SOC which is rapid++++ and then charged 330 quid and coupled it with 32 gigs of memory.
The iPad air 2 is a fantastic and reliable piece of kit i know i have one for work.

I just think that we undervalue the iPad sometimes when we compare it to Samsung offering but them tablets are only functional for a limited time and pale massively in comparison to the user experience that this offers.

However, this brings me to my next point which is that you can currently get the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 with Super AMOLED screen for for £339 (https://www.johnlewis.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-s2-octa-core-exynos-android-9-7-wi-fi-32gb/p2169149?colour=White) and with that you get the micro sd card reader and two year warranty with JL and Sammy. This is an absolutely awesome piece of kit and I know I regret selling mine. Slip a micro sd card in and you have an absolute massive amount of data t play with comparative to the Apple memory tax scam which frankly does little but antagonise customers. Add to that you pretty much have the power of a win XP system sorry Android in the palm of your hand that will not look bleak at all!

Even I am confused as to what system I want to buy....the S3 but at £600 dabs i think someone at Samsung has been smoking something they should not be, he iPad pro with al the bells and whistles and then paying Apple memory tax.

Anyway have some Heat!

24 Mar 17 #43
Yes that's my feeling with the air 2. Having said that I am glad they are differentiating the iPad options a bit more now and good to see a price drop with this new model. The laminated display etc probably won't be missed by the target market.

24 Mar 17 #42
The difference may not be noticeable now but give it a few years and the iOS updates may stop in the air before this. We have 3 iPads two of the original 2 and one of those has been useless for about a year replaced it with an air 2 the other lasted a little longer but then slowed to a stop, our other one is a 3 and about 4 months ago it hit the pensioner age where it started to slow so much that you can't even scroll down the page on safari. Even with no updates and no new apps it happens, and I know they don't have that built into the software but....:disappointed:

I had the same dilemma, ordered an air 2 but cancelled shortly after. The air 2 is now over 2yrs old (still not really outdated performance wise) but I'd still rather have the new up to date processor to last that little bit longer. As outdoor use is not a big factor for me I've now ordered this. My old ipad 2 is still going strong with the kids after nearly 6 yrs now so it's time for an upgrade for myself.

This is my main concern too. The Air 2 is two years old - despite the very similar hardware, surely this newer model will be the better long-term option? The main consideration seems to be: is the lack of lamination worth losing that longer support? How noticeable is that contrast/colour difference?

Luckilly the minor size/weight difference doesn't bother me in the slightest.
lovehtc
24 Mar 17 1 #13
The new iPad has better processor than iPad Air 2, but the LCD is no longer laminated to the front glass, as it is in the Air 2, the air gap between the glass and screen can noticeably affect contrast and color. The tablet also lacks the anti-glare coating that the Air 2 has.

In the mini range the 4 is the only one available and its more expensive than this larger screen model.
If you still want a Mini 2, the best place is Apple refurb site, £189
I've bought apple refurb before, its as brand new, they put the product in a new body so its as new to look at and use.
they some times use the refurb site as a way of selling the discontinued stock, like the mini 2, so it could be a completely brand new item you receive
