Okay, this looks awesome value for a phone of this spec, not to mention the free JBL Soundboost mod on top of it. Actually had to double check it wasn't the play model. I don't think it's ever been this cheap with the speaker thrown in too.

Add Soundboost Speaker mod to basket with phone for discount - You can do that as you go through the checkout process. Your free Herringbone shell should add automatically.

As far as I can see other codes do not stack with this offer. When they apply, the discount doesn't change. Was worth a shot though!

Doesn't work with cashback sites, as it's not a listed/compatible code

Good deal but as others have mentioned battery life isn't great. Struggled to get a day out of it (web browsing and messaging mainly). The battery mod makes it far too thick to be a solution really.

Moto Z had a fantastic screen (though whites had a yellow hue on mine) and nothing else at this price has this spec, so hot deal!

Glad its fine for you. I really wanted to like the phone, it's build quality and spec were great but the battery life was a killer for me. Everyone's usage is going to be completely different so what's fine for one isn't necessary fine for others. I can get a day out of my Oneplus 3T with a 3400mah but nothing more, even with a noticeably larger battery and a lower resolution screen. Maybe I'm a heavier user than most.

Why oh why didn't they have this offer when I ordered my 64gb G4+ :disappointed: I'd have been delighted with the Z Play and JBL for this price.
I'm going to follow this simple 4-step process next time:

I have both, and they are both great phones the Moto Z is definitely faster than the LG. Both have PLUS/MINUS points.
The worst thing on the Moto Z is if you want a glass screen protector they do not go to the full edge of the screen, due to a slight curvature on the Moto Z screen. Be aware of this if you order a protector and think it doesn't fit.

On paper the LG G4 looks amazing is it any good, in your experience of the phone?

The LG G4 is over two years old nowmaybe even three i think its on marshmellow

so the hardware is slower (808vs 820 cpu) and the software wont be updated (security and new features)

The one I bought on your say so? I'm so, so happy for you.

It's such a nice phone. Big, but they all are these days and it's so very light. The only problem is that you can't get a cheap case that has a flip-cover but that also covers the moto mod port. For some reason EVERY cheap case leaves that port exposed even though the presence of a case precludes you using it. It's bananas!

17 Mar 17 #134
Don't wanna be a hater, but I hate this website recently.
1. Not in stock any more.
2. Motorola never honour these incredible deals due to website glitches.
3. I am bitter about my deals going cold or being rejected cos the company is not that well known when they actually are and advertise widely on AV sites.

This rant is meant to be very mildly amusing so do not berate me.

Expire this deal, out of stock.

Yup...another Note 4 owner here who STILL hasn't found a replacement....every phone out there seems to lack something I have with the Note4...hoping for a good Note8 from Samsung but I imagine it will be another of Samsung's £500 phones with a £300 marketing budget cost tagged on top.

For anyone wondering, these phones ship from China. That's why it takes a full week.

Also, the back glass doesn't scratch easily, however the shatter proof film they put on top of the glass scratches very easily. Be wary of that.

Also expect slow updates as Lenovo are a joke of a company.

The sound boost mod is fantastic though. Beats most sub £150 Bluetooth speakers.

Good to hear I'm not the only one who held onto the Note 4. It still beats a lot of newer phones and has got to be one of the best phones I ever had.
Waiting for Note 8 also but it will be a while till the price come to a reasonable level. So now if a good chance to get a stop gap till then.
Also worth a mention is Nokia 8 or P1 due to come onto the market. Looks like a good contender!

Good to know.

I mentioned earlier, a bit annoyed about the inability to charge phone while listening to music/watching videos. I see you have the jbl sound mode. Do you know if it has a 3.5mm socket on the mode? If so, it might be possible to charge phone and plug headphones into the actual mode and my problem would be solved!? I thought i could see a socket on the pictures of the jbl mod.

JohnnyRoller
18 Mar 17 #210
They are out of stock on the Motorola website otherwise I'm guessing that would of been the bundled mod. At £55 on Amazon it's not a cheap option but considering the price of this deal, £355 with the jbl soundboost mod and power bank mod is still a bargain. Either that or sell the jbl soundboost mod and buy the power bank mod and have a great phone sub £300 with 4800 mAh battery (albeit not so thin or light).
Cooltide
18 Mar 17 #211
Brilliant deal. Heat added.
I got one of these with the inferior John Lewis deal a couple of weeks ago.

I'd like to share a few thoughts for those who are getting one.
1) Car chargers - Motorola have their own fast charging tech called turbo charge. Binatone make a licenced Moto turbo charger for the car. But it's comparatively expensive. You can use any generic Qualcomm Quick Charge 2 or 3 device to charge the phone, but you won't get the turbo top up speed. I use a quick charge 3 charger and I can Navigate, Bluetooth and stream music with the screen always on and the phone stays at 100%.
2) This phone is almost bloatware free, so consider downloading the Android Auto or similar car mode app, for safer hands-free use.
3) For voice activated commands you can either use the standard "OK Google" or you can use a longer customised "moto" phrase, but not both. I find the moto one is more powerful as it works even if the phone is in standby. Allowing you to make a call or turn the flashlight on from across the room without manually waking the phone. However keeping the microphone always on does use about 1% of your daily battery. The custom moto phrase is enabled or disabled in the Moto app.
4) Due to the slight curve on the edges of the screen the glass screen protector I tried was comparatively small compared to the screen. I've ended up buying a cheaper film protector instead, which covers a bit more of the screen. I'm happy with this Nilikin one, but would be interested to hear about other people's experiences.
5) The battery life has been acceptable for me, I expected far worse after reading the reviews. The early reviews were done with Marshmallow, but I think the newly improved Android Doze feature in Nougat may have pushed the battery life from unacceptable into just about acceptable.
6) Use the Moto app to learn the "Actions" short cuts. Some of them are useful, like the twist to start the camera.
7) When migrating your data from your old phone to a new phone, all of your Google contacts, most of your apps, and many "Google Play Games" progress will migrate across seamlessly without you needing to do anything. However there are specialist apps that work on non rooted phones like SMS Backup and Restore and or Helium that will bring across stuff that normally doesn't migrate well.

I'd like to hear if anyone else has any tips for this phone.
Darkmemento
18 Mar 17 #212
On the power bank. I have seen some reviews saying you can clip it on and it will charge the phone about 50% in half an hour. Is that accurate? If that is the case then surely clipping it on for such a relatively short period of time means you are hardly using the phone very much while in 'BULK' mode.

Cooltide
18 Mar 17 #222
The Herringbone Style Cover is just there to protect the back of the phone from getting scratched (and maybe add a bit more grip and comfort.) You don't have to use the style cover at all leaving the back unprotected, or you can use a 3rd party case. However all the 3rd party cases and the moto style covers must be removed to use a moto mod. Even the ones with cutouts will almost certainly be too thick for the moto mod to attach and work properly. The moto mod effectively becomes the back cover for the phone.

Amazing deal for a great phone. I got it in the John Lewis sale for the same price but no free soundblaster mod. The phone gives a decent audio experience without it so it should sound really nice with the mod attached. I know on paper the battery doesn't appear to be the best but I get the same kind of usage that I got from my previous phone (OnePlus One). The Android 7.0 upgrade sends unused apps and services to sleep a lot more efficiently than previous versions so that mitigates to an extent for the less than stellar battery capacity. A phone this slim couldn't carry a significantly longer lasting one anyway so you'll always have that trade-off until a better way of powering phones all day is found and batteries as we know them become a thing of the past.
If you ever pondered on buying a Moto Z this is the deal to grab. I'm happy at paying just under £300 for the phone alone. It's £500 again in JL last time I looked. At £300 with free audio mod thrown in it's an absolute steal and the deal deserves all the heat its getting. Best phone I've ever owned and am likely to own for another couple of years at least. I don't know if it says in the description that the USB input is also the headphones socket so a 3mm jack to USB-C adapter is required for that. It came with the phone in my case and imagine that's the usual case but worth checking on just to be sure.
Cooltide
18 Mar 17 #228
I have Camera ZOOM FX premium which shoots .DNG type raw files. I've not tried any others. (To be honest I'm a pretty rubbish photographer and mostly can't be bothered with having to process RAW images, the JPGs mostly do justice to my awful photos.)

I bought this from JL a few weeks ago for £299 and love this phone. Ordered the speakers from Amazon last night then just seen this deal :disappointed:

This replaced my Huawei P9, the Moto Z has a better camera, screen and is so much faster and the fingerprint scanner still works after exercise (unlike the P9). I have no issues at all with the battery after a full day use it is normally at 60%. It comes with a TurboPower charger so charges very quickly which I prefer over a larger battery that charges slowly.

It downloaded about 4 updates when I turned it on (including Nougat 7.0). The phone is large and very thin so holding in one hand could be tricky for some people.

The only negative point I would say is that it is very prone to fingerprints on the front and back, maybe my previous phones have had a special coating as I have never noticed it before.

I have found all the Motorolas ive owned to be fantastic phones and just about the best value for money there is out there. Lenovo said they wouldnt mess with the brand but seem to have fallen short with battery life on this one. Techradar found "Moto Z battery life is where it falls short, and that slender size is to blame. It includes a 2,600 mAh battery capacity that just isn't enough for modern phones".
Battery life has always been fantastic on my Motos so its looks like Lenovo are not as capable as Motorola in this department. Otherwise its excellent for the price.

If they've shipped from China and the import/VAT hasn't been prepaid then we will need to pay 20% VAT and a few % customs as well as a handling charge from whichever courier they've used.

Ive posted this note many times but for those that didnt see it :- Ive had 3 phones from Motorola China since Christmas. They all went through UK customs. I didnt have to pay any import duties whatsoever. Hope thats the same for all who took a punt with this one.

Tracking was a waste of time and totally inaccurate. Took 10 days from purchase to delivery.

zonkkk
20 Mar 17 #275
VAT has already been paid and appears as VAT on the original order.

I did a bit of digging and the Fedex shipment service Motorola is using means they will sort out import charges before delivering the product to you.
Here is what "Fedex International Priority DirectDistribution Service" does:
"Consolidate multiple packages or freight into a single shipment,
reducing fees and masking customs value from your end customers
before transporting and distributing individual shipments directly
to them."

Anybody else think Motorola don't know what they're doing?:

I went for the Poetic Revolution after reading a few reviews. Fits perfectly and the first time I've put on a screen protector (built in) and not itched at the loss of quality from putting cheap plastic in front of expensive glass. Seems good to me.

Got mine this morning, I'm at work so can't play too much but is anyone else a bit peeved that they don't send any headphones at all with it? I had (wrongly) assumed they would have a USB-C stereo headset for handsfree included in the box so I don't always need the adapter, no such luck.

Edit: on my lunch break and hooked up the JBL to watch some music videos on youtube, VERY impressed with the sound quality. The kick stand is great too, i'll certainly be watching more Netflix at my desk in future

Do you have any info on that? The new Moto Z will be coming out this year... I'm hoping they make new mods backwards compatible...
carltonbp
24 Mar 17 #307
Looks like LG have abandoned mods so moto could too, you would hope they would be compatible but that ties them into the exact size phone every time and companies are notorious for making people replace things.

24 Mar 17 #311
I'm sure they just committed to delivering mods for at least 3 years at one of the recent mobile conference (need to find a ref link). I agree though that it means they will be bound to the design / form factor although it maybe a reason for people to seek out the next gen so they can keep using their mods.

This is interesting .... youtube.com/wat…pEQ .... I also agree as the first time I heard about this phone was due to the previous JL deal. I very much like the idea of mods and it pushes me to want a standard for docking for phones (magnetic / gravity contacts if you know what i mean) so we could all use standard accessories.

I really don't like stock android. I press the dialer and I get favourites, if I want those I'll have a link on my screen, I now have to press another button to get the dialer to make a call. The bloomin bar at the top I can't get red of without installing a launcher etc etc. When I got my G4 it just worked well for me, I wasn't having to google for ages trying to undo annoyances.

I don't think moto will abandon the mods till after 3rd gen moto z if they are they just launched moto official battery pack at mwc.

youtu.be/0zS…mFQ

I also saw a gaming controller and have you seen 3rd party mods when they had there developers conference / competition for mods which just finished. Now all those had prototypes are now crowded funded and some have already reached there funding targets like the led battrey back and solar panel.

25 Mar 17 #332
No, the (current) mods can't be used with it on. But I don't think it does it much harm having the cutout - and you just don't know what mods will come out in future, so part of me wonders if there's a little bit of future proofing.
I'm impressed with the case though (once I remembered to remove the magnetic back that came with the Z.)

And loving the phone itself. Still getting it all setup how I like it and delving into some of the more advanced features but first impressions are excellent - especially of that screen!

Anyone got a full screen tempered glass protection? I've only seen amazon.co.uk/MOT…ass but not sure about it.
hecs1234
26 Mar 17 #335
Used these and are good quality, be aware that any tempered glass screen protector for the Moto Z will not entirely cover the whole screen due to a slight curvature at the edge of the display.

amazon.co.uk/Pro…tor

I removed mine because I couldn't live with the dust build up around the edge of the protector, and after seeing this I don't think the Moto Z needs one.

It's with a heavy heart that I have to announce my Moto Z passed away in it's sleep last night. We made 4 attempts of resuscitation with the turbopower charger but there is no sign of life whatsoever.
Luckily, Moto have offered a replacement or full refund (of which I will be taking the latter, can't put up with a phone that lasts 72 hours then dies a complete death). :face_with_monocle:

Apparently the command centre nice looking widget it verizon only but the APK is available.
http://www.droid-life.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/motomod-battery1.jpg
The widget can be the middle circle or all 3. The weather part links to accuweather on the phone.
The APK I downloaded from here the link is in step 1 and works perfectly. Easiest wayfor me is to email it to your gmail and install direct from email. androidflagship.com/226…red

Anyone able to remove the bloody Google search bar from main screen?
carltonbp
28 Mar 17 #340
Obly way is to use a launcher, I used Nova as I have the paid for version. It also gives you battery % on status bar.

The search bar is beyond annoying. I know what Google want to achieve but is annoying so many customers worth it.
wadz
28 Mar 17 #341
I was just trying to work this out last night, no luck
tenohfive
28 Mar 17 #342
My first reaction when I saw it was to remove it, on older phones I've always put Nova Launcher on there (cracking launcher app) but this time I've tuned it out. There's a lot of screen real estate and it doesn't take up much of it.

I'm hanging fire on installing Nova too - I like how it all looks and feels straight out of the box. I miss a couple of minor things coming from Nova but not enough to change it right now.
pontprennau
28 Mar 17 #343
How do i set battery % on status bar in nova please  looked everywhere (well obviously I haven't as i couldn't find it)
carltonbp
28 Mar 17 #344
Sorry I got that wrong.
There's 2 ways, I bought an app called material status bar (the free version is full of ads that render it barely usable), it gives you a status bar like LG or Samsung etc and also battery %, I hated the ugly grey and 2 swipes down and 2 ups, just awful, so mine is now one swipe and looks like LG.
There is another option that's within Android but to me it's not as clear. You need to get Tweak UI working, to do this swipe to get your full status bar drop down and then long press on the cog at the top right, you'll get a message saying tweak UI is there, now go to settings/tweak ui/Status bar then scroll down an there's and option called battery, select this and you get 3 options for showing battery. However it just does little text within the icon and it's really difficult to see.

Because Motorola's charger was hard wired I got caught out. So I ordered these little adapters as I have plenty of micro USB's. They work fine, 3 for £3.99 amazon.co.uk/gp/…c=1
tenohfive
28 Mar 17 #346
I've got some and they're fine, but having switched to quick charge compatible chargers elsewhere (car charger, spare mains charger etc) at fairly reasonable prices I can see myself getting impatient with 'normal' charging speeds. It's definitely a step forward that the mobile industry needed.

Just baulking at the price of a QC compatible power bank oO

If I have it connected to a 5GHz WiFi network the phone drains the battery when screen is off and you can only get about 2h SOT.

I'm going to get rid of mine. I've spent ages trying to get it to work for me but it seems like every day there's something new to annoy me. Yesterday it was trying to send an image as an attachment via the camera app, today it's where it the clear function on the calc and why are there no bank holiday's filled in on the calendar. The lack of notifications other than if you wave your hand over it is just too much. I have my phone on silent a fair bit and to have to be constantly checking rather than just looking is a pain. I've tried several apps but the battery drain is really bad. Shame as it was a good price.
tenohfive
29 Apr 17 #368
Calc: you know that button that says, "Del." When you've entered something to clear it suddenly changes to, "Clr."
I think it may be that button...
Calendar is Google, not Moto. Three horizontal lines on the left? Tap that. Scroll down. There's a tick box for, "Holidays." Tick that. Refresh.
Photo attachments: Take photo. Swipe left on the screen - it brings up the photo. Tap the share icon. Choose your preferred way of sharing.

Or get rid of the phone, Android and you don't appear to agree.
carltonbp
29 Apr 17 #369
There are plenty of ways around things, I've spent hours on this phone trying to set it up so it works as it should but I'm constantly downloading apps or delving into settings for basic things. And Android suits me fine, just I don't like stock android. I can share attachments but the process is more than it needs to be as with the calc. But the biggie is notifications, I keep missing things, I've tried 4 apps but they all drain battery. I'll have a look at the G6 when it comes down in price until then I'll risk my G4 which works brilliantly for me hopefully it doesn't develop the bootloop issue.
chinesoul
29 Apr 17 #370
Out of curiosity, how long will your G4's battery last at a full charge?
My 18-month-old G4 is hardly a mobile device, have to keep recharging it a good few times a day. It could be used as a baby leather surfaced radiator though.
carltonbp
29 Apr 17 #371
I get about 4 days. I don't have bluetooth wifi on as standard and I don't sync emails either. THere was a recent update that improved battery so if you haven't done that try it. At least with the G4 you can get a replacement battery. In the last 22hrs it's used 14% and this included a small LG update.

The G4 just works well for me. I struggled a little with my samsung s3 getting it how I wanted but nothing like with this moto. But the G4 has just be good from the start, easy to set up easy to get to work how I work.
tenohfive
2 May 17 #372
The things I posted aren't workarounds - they're standard features?

If the phone doesn't suit then it doesn't suit, but I'm not sure how any Nougat running phone is going to be any different.
And the notifications thing...how are you missing them? I've not noticed anything different about the notifications to any other Android phone.

Anyone else had nothing but trouble with battery life since buying this phone? I've had mine in for Motorola official "repair" and it is no better. Estimated screen on time with a "full" battery is just 2hrs 34min according to Accubattery, which rates the capacity at 1244mah after repair; nowhere near 2600mah. Accubattery is the only non-Google app i've installed since i got the phone back. I am using an old phone for daily use which cost little more than £100, is a year old and lasts all day on one charge. The Moto Z has proved to be a lemon unless left permanently connected to a power socket!
zonkkk
4 Oct 17 #375
I get about the same. The main issue is that it does not seem to go to deep sleep when connected to a 5GHz WiFi network.
I get about 3.5h if only connect to 2.4GHz networks... But it does seem to have a higher than average battery drain when screen is off.
handsonholly
4 Oct 17 #376
I thought it was only me, I don't know any of the technical things but I can confirm the battery life is SHOCKING! I'm having to plan my schedule around the next time I am near a power socket, I'm like an old lady planning toilet stops in order not to be caught short! :astonished: ...please help, down to 27% it was fully charged at 4pm! Not sure I will last 2 years with this I'm already tired

5 Oct 17 #377
I got the battery mod. When the phone gets to around 20% I snap it on and it charges the battery to about 80% in about 40 minutes. You can still use the phone and take the mod off when empty. This way I get about 4.5 hours SOT.

The other thing I did is change my home WiFi settings so my phone only connects to the 2.4GHz Network.
handsonholly
8 Oct 17 #378
Thanks so much will give both ideas a go, I hope the battery mod can be picked up relatively cheaply. Hx
