Just picked one of these up to use as a music server with my Dac, I use some free software called Daphile which is amazing (https://www.daphile.com/)
I'm sure it could be used with other software such as Vortexbox or any other music server software that works on a PC platform, interestingly it has a GT610 graphics card built in, so software such as Kodi etc would run quite well.
Could be used as a TVheadend server/PVR too?
Granted it's no powerhouse to use as a main PC, but for £54.99 delivered with memory and a hard drive I can think of quite a few uses!

Ok - got my OpenWRT setup with PXE boot to an Ubuntu live CD, and manually installed LibreElec on the device, which it runs like a champ. So if you can handle the fun and games of setting up PXE it's an ideal device for a media centre

If you do a PXE boot make sure you have a timeout on the OS selection if using a boot menu. I noticed the Keyboard is locked out when it starts a PXE boot but once the OS/Installer starts loading the keyboard works fine.

I managed to boot mine up over PXE and can install windows to the hard drive. But haven't found a tool that will remove the password yet. None seem to clear that section of the BIOS. Half tempted to remove the eprom and dump it in my programmer.

Just received an email from the seller saying "not good news spoken to bazeport they are not willing to give us the password as they were specific B2b private branded product specific to baze so please return the item for a full refund sorry for the inconvenience".

Mmm, bit of a cock-up all round. Don't particularly blame the seller though and their communication has been pretty speedy, replying to any messages within minutes. Bazeport (presumably) had the foresight to wipe the hard drive so you'd have thought they could have reset the BIOS too.
Anyway, mine's now all parceled up ready to post back.

Late to the debate so don't know if already been suggested - bios password can normally be cleared by removing battery off of mobo and repositioning a few seconds later. Normally looks like a CR2032 battery, not sure if it's accessbible though.

No. Still waiting for a reply from seller.
After some more random key pressing did manage to get into the PXE boot settings menu (think it's F12 rather than shift+F10 after splash screen) but that just gives option for PXE boot or HD boot so no use. Also gives an APP menu option which is password protected so again no use.

21 Mar 17#64
The pinhole reset button does seem to reset the CMOS clock which the BIOS detects on the next boot ("invalid date/time") but then still needs a password to get into settings.
BTW, how does the case come off? I removed the one screw but the trim seems quite firmly in place. Is it worth removing the battery overnight?

Same problem with mine - Bios password, and won't boot off USB. Sent a message to the seller, but otherwise it's pretty useless
Mine isn't here yet so I can't check :disappointed:, I spotted some cheap ipad mini cases from the same seller so gone for them as well, I guess it will all be coming as one parcel.

There is a reset button behind a pinhole on the left hand side, i tried that before opening it to remove the battery.

21 Mar 17#52
I've contacted the seller. There's someone else with the same problem and seller is contacting supplier to see if they can provide a password.
I won't open the case just yet but presume it's a jumper reset or battery removal to reset the CMOS.

I have been in contact with the seller since this morning with this issue. I asked if i could open the case to try and reset it and he said that was fine. The problem is disconnecting the cmos battery for a hour did not remove the password so we are now stuck waiting to see if the seller can get the passwords from the supplier.

Was interested in one of these for a mini NAS project - just need something that's DLNA and a 500GB disk is big enough for my requirements.
Think it's worth it? Recommendations for s/w if it is?
Cheers

21 Mar 171#54
I can't recommend it at the moment because I can't even to get it to boot, but watch this space.
If 500GB is enough for you then it's got pretty good specs as a server - the gigabit ethernet might be an advantage. Also, though not mentioned in the specs one of the USB ports is 3.0 (well, it's got a blue socket anyway).
My concern would be power draw if it's going to be an always on box. At 30w that would be £30 per year so long term a lower power draw box would be better.
If I ever get it to boot I'll measure the power draw at idle.

Thx for the reply. Tried all of the usual suspects. Think it's a Phoenix.
Splash screen is a custom Bazeport thing which says press F2 for system utilities but it's password protected.
Was hoping not to have to open the case.
RustySpoons to chrisgw3

Try spamming the usual keys. Del, F10/F11/F12 etc. Also Esc might show something. Does it say what BIOS company it is?
Failing that open it and clear CMOS.

Ordered one and it arrived this morning. Going to have a play with daphile.
Anyone know how to get into the BIOS? Default boot says no bootable device which is fair enough - the disk was probably wiped but unable to get into the BIOS to boot from USB.

Big BIG question.
Will this run Sky Go at a decent HD framerate?
As I have found that Sky will not let me have the app on 2 rooted Fire tablets, or even an android box in the kids room, via HDMI, I now have to go down a mini PC route for the kids room (no more Cartoon Network hogging my TV).
Foolishly I paid for Sky Go extra for this such predicament. But now I find that Sky will let you have that app ..... and pay more for it .... but only on devices it considers appropriate.
Unbelievably, BT Sport app works fine on the android box (so I stay out of the wife's Coronation Street) and also on the Fire tablets.

That's not my take on it at all. His exact words were "says 320gb hard drive in description on ebay" which I took to mean that he thought, incorrectly mind, that the OP's spec of 500GB was incorrect. Yeah, he was unlucky at only reading the last bit of the listing, but saying he is worthless was a cruel read to me.

Not at all, but it would seem you could do with an additional source of income if a £50 'PC' is useless to you without a bulletproof warranty.
