Foods good, but recently the wine options have been pretty poor.
Good deal still for a tenner.

I know, in the store I go to they only have four different types next to the fridge, one white, one rose, one red and another, invariably they are one's I don't like. I used to always go to the wine aisle to pick one of them off the list when we had it, come on M&S give us the list again please.

If the "20% off 3 bottles of wine" is still on then the bottle with this counts as one of these - so you get 20% off any other two bottles. I got "2 for £12" last time (less 20% = £9.60)
karlie88 to BrianM
7 Mar 17#8
Which wine did you get last time?
Also, why would you get 20% off 2 bottles when the offer is 20% off 3 bottles? Sorry just a little confused. Thanks.

Meal comes with 1 bottle of wine inc, you then buy 2 more to trigger 20% off 3 bottles offer.

Thanks. Would 3 dine-in deals trigger the deal too?
I know from past experience that M&S had a weekly wine offer (2 for £12 iirc) and that the offer would work in conjunction with the dine-in deal - so approx. £16 for 2 dine-in meals. Think they also had 25% off wyb 6 bottles but that glitch was closed off.

The wine in the 2 dine for £10 has no monetary value according to the offer.
For the avoidance of doubt, as the value attributed to the free wine in this deal is £0.00

That's exactly what I said - or was trying to say!!!
Last £10 meal I bought two bottles of wine (a rather nice "Zebra Merlot" I think - on a 2 for £12 deal) to add to my free one. This made 3 bottles of wine and I got 20% off the £12 (but nothing off the free wine!)

The reason they do that is actually a cheeky tax fiddle - by classifying the wine as a "free gift" and only charging for the food, they're not paying tax to the Treasury for the wine, which would otherwise take a large chunk out of the £10 M&S receives from the customer.
I'm surprised the media haven't picked up on it, but then again it did take them over 10 years to report the way that Boots and WHSmith at airport outlets were scanning boarding cards to pocket the VAT from non-EU flyers' purchases.

I don't pay attention in M&S that much but assumed this was all the time, is it an occasional offer?
Every time I've popped in on a Saturday there has been a "dine in for 10 quid" stand near the door. Maybe i just get lucky with my times?!

Can someone confirm this is definitely on. The last time it was posted on here my local M&S restaurant knew nothing about it and I ended up getting into an argument with the restaurant manager and she ended up calling security and I was thrown out. I can go to the other M&S on the other side of town as I think I'm not barred from there but want to make sure it is definitely on as I would have to get two buses. Heat from me BTW.

You can ask the staff to give you a wine list, although you should scan the wines with Wot Wine as many are not nice at all. One last week they rated as not worth anything, another was 'added value'.

I've always thought the steaks were small too so I tend to get the lasagne or gastropub cottage pie, I really fancy the fish but I'm the only one in the house who'd eat it :disappointed:

The rump steaks in the Swansea store are tiny. Not enough for one person.
I went to the steak aisle and picked up an identical looking pack, same price per kilo and tried to scan that as part of the deal but it would not work. Comparing the size of the rump steak in the deal and the rump steak, listed at the same price, not in the deal is shocking.

Brown_Rolf The duty is paid before the alcohol leaves the plant it is bottled/canned in. Any that doesn't meet standards either set by duty or the relevant company has to be destroyed on the premises.

You're quite right about the duty but I was referring to the VAT which is payable at the point of sale, not the point of manufacture/import, so gives scope for retailers to be somewhat creative by giving VATable items as "free" or vastly discounted when bought in conjunction with non-VATable items.
On a £7.99 bottle of wine the VAT is £1.33 which, although not as much as the duty of £2.08, is still a lot of money for M&S to avoid paying to the Treasury on however many bottles they shift per annum on the Meal Deal.
