New firmware has been released for the B6V (04.31.10), I had to download and install it manually via USB but it's straightforward (format USB to NTFS or FAT32, create a folder called LG_DTV and copy the contents of the zip folder into it).
this deal expired ur oled deals cold so come back before easter

Prices have skyrocketed in the last 24hrs, most retailers have increased to £1999, stocks must be running out!
Slightly gutted as last night I found it for £1529 on AO, I was planning to go to Currys to get £70 back on their 7 day price promise.

Nothing to do with stocks running out just prices go up before the Easter sales begin
Yes. Just can't work out why they suddenly put prices back to pre-Christmas levels when we (well I) assumed they were shifting old stock for the new models. If I'd wanted one at £2k, I'd have got myself one for Christmas. (OK that ignores sound bar offer - or have they binned that too? - but I don't want a sound bar!)
Went to view one in Currys this evening, after a bit of haggling I got the bundle for £1599 (after referring to the £100 discount code on Vouchercloud). The picture quality is superb, almost mesmerisingly realistic. It absolutely smokes my old Panasonic UT50 plasma (1080p) and CX700 (4K). The quality of the on-board speakers vastly exceeded my expectations too, I haven't even bothered unpacking the soundbar :stuck_out_tongue:
Not sure about the air-mouse remote yet, it's kinda cool but a bit of a gimmick. Absolutely desperate to watch Planet Earth 2 in 4K now but I don't have a UHD player :disappointed:

I'm sure that this was just a case of someone at JL who doesn't know what they are doing. JL site says "We don't match prices ... with voucher codes." Can't see how "10% Argos code" is not a "voucher code".
I posted that Richersounds have £100 off so £1,699. If you can get it cheaper at he moment that's a good deal!

I brought this from JL for £1799 with the Soundbar. Called them today regarding this 10% Argos code and they price matched and gave me back £179. Must have got lucky. £1620 with Soundbar + 5 year guarantee and 28 price match. With the stock getting so low I'm chuffed I bit at the right time.

Hold you nerve - I think this will still get a bit cheaper before they sell of all the stock. Wish they would give more off and lose the sound bar !

The extra brightness is making me wait. On the other hand I'd quite like 3D, so its rather annoying that the 7 series have dropped that.
"Beyond some styling differences, the 2017 models offer the following improvements over the 2016 versions:
25 percent brighter in highlights
2 percent better coverage of DCI/P3 color (from 97 to 99 percent)
Compatible with Technicolor and HLG HDR formats
"Active HDR" mode
Technicolor picture mode
Dolby Atmos sound
In my opinion, none of those improvements will make a big enough difference in picture (or sound) quality to spend $500 or $1,000 extra on the C7 over the B6. Of course I won't know for sure until I can test one."

Hard to see this going down that much further, even with the new models coming out. I've bitten the bullet as the Soundbar + Sky Q make this too good to miss. I tried John Lewis + Richer Sounds to price match but unfortunately no luck. Saw this in store in Currys and it really is stunning!

In a store it's a bit of a mugs game if you're watching TVs with different settings, especially if you can't compare the same content. However TV reviewers are fanatical about measurements, so you can mostly trust them. The only downside is you may not get the same TV panel that was reviewed thanks to the 'panel lottery'. Ugh.

I had my heart set on the Samsung UE55KS8000 but this is very tempting since it's not much more to get OLED. I prefer the OneConnect box with the Samsung for connectivity, but could overlook it.

Anonknowmouse to DJDunk
11 Mar 17#39
The 55B6V is similar spec to the UE55KS7000, and that's almost half the price at £899.99! OLED is so ridiculously expensive that I reckon they will all drop it in a couple of years if they can't get the cost down.

That's exactly why everything uses HDMI - because of HDCP. The handshakes that cause those of us with very complex setups issues (Sky Q boxes are a pain for handshake failures) are there by design - companies aren't going to stream 4K content without it

My problem with the current OLEDs is their latency, even in game mode it was 70ms and over 100 if you wanted colour accuracy... wtf? My Monitor is DCI-P3 100% and only has 8ms total (combining two figures for the monitor so the TV would be even higher than what I stated) and so why can't TVs do this? My only conclusion is they cheap out on that side like they cheap out on scalers, because most people do not game on them. I would use it as a monitor too and even with 32ms on the Samsung... it was really noticeable.
Then you have the fact OLEDs have burn in, which is fine for normal viewing, but when you're using it as a monitor... not good.
I don't think OLED is the future, there is always something better around the corner and I'll be waiting for that as they have too many flaws like Plasma did. My phone has an amazing LCD display, so I'm hoping eventually we get to the point where either FSA is improved or an alternative comes out.
I don't want any smart features either, just keep it out, all these TVs do s judder and then they have tons of processing to try and eliminate it... again why? My Monitors do not judder.
Why are they all HDMI? That's the worst connection you can use, the audio through it sucks for one, but it's so slow and does all these security checks. I want the return of ports that just work like my monitors, you plug it in and it's instantly on, HDMI is so annoying. especially when using splinters because you only ever have like 4 HDMI ports... no give me 12.
Take the built in speakers out too, no one uses them, they add size and cost and suck.

if you just want the tv one could always sell the soundbar on ebay and get a few quid back i suppose.

No dead pixels on my OLED, no light bleed either. My previous led Samsung however had awful light bleed in corners. Latency was not an issue when I tried my xbox one, although I prefer to game on a smaller monitor tbh so I can see all the action in one go! This OLED does look stunning with uhd discs... night scenes are total blackout due to the pixels turning off individually. This tech is totally different to led sets.

I know it must get said all the time but how much better can sets get.? 4k OLED must be hard to beat? anything above 4k and unless you are right up close is going to be hard to spot any difference, at least going from 576 > 720 > 1080 > 4k is noticeable.
And now that each pixel illuminates itself, how can this be improved? (Or at least improved in a way which makes a noticeable difference to the consumer

I can remember seeing the first plasma 42" screens which cost upwards of £10 000 ! Within a few short years the price when I bought my first one had fallen to £1000, continued improvements of Full HD etc the price still fell to south of £500.
When LCD came out it was expensive, soon trumped by LED which was even more expensive, but the price fell quickly and today the latest & greatest thing to have is OLED which is following that same path, with silly prices in the beginning which are quickly falling as the manufacturing technology matures.
Within a couple of years expect the cheaper OLEDs to be sub £1000 for this size but possibly some new technology in the wings just waiting to make your nice new set obsolete, all at a price of course.
The big question is when to pull the trigger and my feeling is that if you can hold on then it's going to be much better two years down the track.
timcorps to Thoughtful
10 Mar 17#21
That's the thing people want the latest and greatest , first. In 2 years time there will be a lot of oled sets already in people's homes so it won't be as desirable, there will be another tech advancement which will be expensive until it's mass produced and cheaper again. So on and so forth, for 3 years the base oled sets have been starting around £2500 due to lg being the only manufacture to pump out panels, Samsung are determined to stick with LCD/led for now as it can't be beaten for production costs, Sony are buying from lg until the market swings in favour of oled. I'd say it'll be at least 3-4 years before they come down to the same Ish price as an lcd panel, if they perfect the panel making technology and all the major manufacturers get involved

You're not likely to suffer the majority of these defects with OLED due to the way the pixels are illuminated.

I must admit, dead/stuck pixels annoy me but I've not found them to be much of a problem on a 4K screen. I had a 65" Hisense TV last year with a couple dead centre and they couldn't be seen at a round 2ft from the screen. The TV I had before the Hisense was a 60" sharp 1080p and that had three dead Pixels and they were basically invisible at around 5 feet. Stuck Pixels are the worst, especially green. Luckily all my LCD based TV's have had reasonable screen uniformity, minimal banding/DSE and manageable clouding so the dead pixels are the lesser of many evils in my opinion.

I wouldn't touch an OLED set that wasn't backed up by a decent warranty, i'd rather pay more and buy from the likes of Richer or John Lewis.

I wouldn't buy any TV for that money tbh, every single one always has dead pixels or uniformity issues. I tried 4 KS7000's and they all had dead pixels and massive light bleed from the bottom left side especially. They all have such high latency and stupid processing and software that slows everything down.
TVs are plain bad, but for some reason people don't care.
