For anyone that has picked this up, does it come supplied with an optical cable?

Good build quality and plenty of features for the price, and mine came with a UK plug.
Despite playing around with the settings, I still prefer the basic sound from my TV.
I have this TV: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/hitachi-55-inch-4k-ultra-hd-fvhd-smart-tv-359-99-free-cac-with-code-tvs10-argos-2617003 Is there an optimal position/direction for the Subwoofer?
Currently have mine sat behind the couch with the cone edge facing towards the TV.
Would also have prefered some way to pair it with the volume controls on my TV's remote.
I received mine today. Delivery was next day which was nice. First impressions are pretty good and I think it's worth £99. It looks decent and it sounds pretty decent for the money. I connected to my TV via optical and it just works. No hassle with the bluetooth connection either.
Just a few picky things worth mentioning:
- The soundbar came with a EU power cable and not a UK power cable. (Even though the subwoofer came with a UK power cable hard wired)
- Like most sound bars, the 320 wattage rating is completely meaningless rubbish. In reality, the subwoofer is 40 watt (It says so on the back), and the drivers in the sound bar are probably 10-15 watt max.
It goes loud enough for me but it's not going to blow your mind. In comparison my old Aego M 2.1 speaker system (which is a 90 watt system) is much louder.
- I ran a frequency swoop and the subwoofer can handle bass as low as 40-50hz. The crossover to the sound bar speakers is quite high at around 230-250hz. This isn't ideal but it's probably to be expected since the drivers in the sound bar are small.
Also there is audible vibration from the subwoofer cabinet at around 100hz; not ideal.
- At the default setting the subwoofer does sound a little boomy. It definitely doesn't sound as tight as my old Aego M system.

I'm quite late to this but just wanted to ask a question on the power cable.
Did you need to use a separate third party power cable for the soundbar given they only supply a Euro cable?

Yes but it doesn't work. Maybe it has something to do with my tv connected to my router via ethernet although have wifi switched on as well and have no issues using wifi direct with my phone to tv.

my lg tv does not have bluetooth just wifi and my soundbar works fine through the wireless sync. have you got the soundbar set to lg tv and the options for sound sync on, on tv. thats how mine is set up and has worked like that for 6 months.

I have wireless sound sync on my tv. It doesn't work. Loads of other people have reported the same issue. Feel free to play the video from LG's website shown below. It confirms that the wireless sync is via bluetooth. So as my smart tv doesn't have bluetooth it's never going to find any devices which it didn't last time I tried it with an LG soundbar.
you cant connect the sound bar to your tv by Bluetooth. what it means is it has wireless Bluetooth to connect to phones wireless to play music. you have to go into sound options on your tv and see if it has a option for wireless sound sync. if so you can connect soundbar to your tv wireless if no you cant.

sound bar just came today and i had the other one from Argos that has been on here for £55. massive massive difference for me. The sub mainly as the other had no better bass than my TV. for all it's smaller the speakers are definitely better. had problems with voices syncing on the Argos one so it's going back tomorrow

I have the wireless sound sync option on my tv but it doesn't work. I think that's because the soundbar wireless is by bluetooth and my tv is not bluetooth. If you have a bluetooth tv then it should work.
stevenprior1
23 Mar 17#48
if your tv have the wireless sync option in the sound option then it will work
stevenprior1
23 Mar 17#47
no you dont i have one and it has active wirless sync but your lg tv needs to have that option normally smart lg tvs. it does work wireless.

According to one tech review I read it describes the soundbar as being quite small and suitable for tv's up t 42", 47" at a push. It's only 77cm long. That's 30" in old money.
debating getting this as have an ageing LG DVD 5.1 system at the moment. it's ok but it's started clipping and popping recently and can't work out why

It's colour is described as gun metal same as my tv. Its not a bright silver and more like a dark grey. It's actually the same colour as my sky+ HD box which is stood on top of my black LG Bluray. Doesn't look out of place if that helps.

I think you will find the reason for its price is it's actually a very old sound bar. This model came out in 2014 and it's original retail price in Curry's was £229.99. I nearly bought this when i bought my LG TV in the Christmas sales 2014 so that's why it's cheap. It is a very nice looking sound bar but i went for the much newer model with HDMI purchased half price from euronics for £129.99.
The model posted is a very good sound bar especially for the price. It makes no difference that it hasn't got hdmi. It will still be fine using a fibre cable. Best sound i have heard though in a long time is the set up my brother in law has. He has his TV plugged into an amp from a Sony music system from the 90's with four speakers. No HDMI, no Bluetooth, lots of wires (hidden) = amazing sound. Far better than most sounbars. Think this music system was made before the word digital sound, soundbar, etc were even thought of. Technology may have moved on in some areas but has moved backwards in others.

Sounds bar are rubbish , unless you spent a lot of cash! (I have brought a few)
And why we have to have all these slim TVs , with rubbish speakers I never know! Guess just another way to sell rubbish to people!

My LG sound bar wouldn't connect wirelessly to my LG TV. Bluetooth only and although my tv is wireless it is not Bluetooth. If you read the spec it says wireless via Bluetooth same as my LG sound bar.

Great Spot, ordered for my son. Optical is perfect as it is only 2.1. The wireless Sub is a bonus too. Plus he can use the Bluetooth with his phone, tablet and laptop. There is no need for HDMI on a soundbar unless it has more channels than 5.1. Heat added.

ChromeCast audios have an optical output which is actually much better as no noise goes through (unlike via the 3.5mm analog). Not sure about this soundbar, but my LG one has the option to automatically switch on from optical input which makes it a bonus when I cast music to my Google Cast Audio device.
You just need to get yourself a mini toslink cable or if you already have a space optical cable, get an adapter like this one.
Note: I've not hunted for the cheapest cable, just got the first results out of a Google search.

I'm tempted by this but the Which? review of only 54% puts me off. At 320W they say it's lacking in power!
I have 320W and barely ever go over 35/100 in volume. no issues with sound here. And my room is bigger than the average.

I have the £55 one and a set up with a sub. It really depends on your viewing environment. Yes the sub sounds fantastic but my neighbours would not appreciate it blasting at all hours. For a substantial set up over stock tv speakers the £55 is excellent value. I switch over for big movies when I can shake the house
