I have the older version Tab 2 A10-70F and it's been a nightmare, the internet is terrible and the Dolby was never fixed properly, the internet drops out any time it feels like it and despite the Lenovo forums being full of posts about it they never bothered to reply let alone fix the issues.
They released updates up until Android 5.01 (which never fixed the issues) they went on to release one more update that wasn't even the right one for the tablet but still left it up for a week before taking it down !

If Given the choice I would now take the lower res model if it dosen't have the issues the model A10-70F has.

Someone else pointed out the old version was better and pops up from time-to-time so maybe not right now but they do turn up (or buy used). Lenovo have been incredibly cheeky by releasing a 'newer' tablet with worse specs, they did this with the Yoga Tab 3 as well - the slowest Snapdragon SoC available and normal HD screen only; it's arguably 'good enough' but when have HUKDers ever settled for that!

The resolution of 1280 x 800 is a lot lower than the previous version which was 1920x1080 and has been on here many times. Hopefully this will make it a bit quicker as my a10-70 seems sluggish to respond. A nice entry level tablet and probably the right kind of price.

"The Lenovo Tablet won't compromise your on-the-go multimedia viewing" then a lower resolution display. Hate false marketing I feel that this is mis-selling. Companies that take advantage of people that struggle to understand technical specifications should be more accountable. :disappointed:

" ... immersive Dolby Atmos® cinematic moving audio."

Sounds to me like a little bit of false Product marketing too perhaps? :-(

I still want one though?, hehehe, as it's a decent screen size. :-)

I'm hoping that Lenovo bought out a NEW 10" Android Tablet at the MWC (Mobile World Conference), so as to then have the price of this current 10" Android Tablet beaten down yet again, in a week or two's time either end?! (give or take?, hehehe).

very poor gfx chip in these. Most newer games and browsing on busy sites will be laggy. 8" version is faster.

"The Adreno 304 usually only offers half of the performance of the the Adreno 320 and is only slightly ahead of the Mali-400 MP4. Very demanding Android games of 2013 may not run completely smooth, but simple titles like Angry Birds and the usual multimedia tasks are no problem."

Yeh Tab 4 Looks good and the article says possibly launching as low as £119 but its an approximate from $149 so there's no guarantees the UK will get it for a good price first off. The article also put a launch price of about "£87, AU$141" but postage from Australia would probably use up any savings.
Its stating there's a Standard and a Plus version : " The Tab 4 8 and 10 feature a Qualcomm MSM8917 quad-core processor, a 1280 x 800 display, 2GB of RAM. And the Plus varieties amp things up to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625, like the Moto G5 Plus, a 1920 x 1200 screen, as well as 3GB and 4GB configurations." The cheapest might be bare bones compared to what they advertise - I suppose wait and see.
Battery life will be ? they've put: "Tab 4 8 has a 4850mAh cell inside and the Tab 4 10 has a whopping 7000mAh battery" they've not put actual tested mixed running time but I'm sure someone's capable of working it out.
Cant see anything indicating if it will be able to take a simcard/3g,4G, or has internal GPS which is something I now look for - especially as there are some very good data only cards available right now. If it really does launch as cheep as they say it might and I buy one of the other tablets I will feel a bit cheesed off : )

Lenovo has a habit of not supporting things very well. My Yoga 2 Pro only got Android 5.0.2 after 6 was already out! Not that it matters as it won't even charge now! With Lenovo you get nice build quality and hardware but support is truly awful - basically if it works when you get it and you don't need support you are fine.

But yes, if the new one was supported better even if lesser hardware I would do the same, though what's the bets they'll release a Tab 4 and pretend like the old one never existed?

I wouldn't trust Argos to give me accurate specifications. Just a couple of months ago they sold the Motorola play touted as having 2 GB RAM. Turned out to be 1 GB only. However got £20 back in vouchers after lodging a complaint. Best option would be to go to Service counter and demand to see the specs on the box.

I don't get what's happened with the tablet market; almost 3 years ago I got an LG GPad 2GB 8.3" 1920x1200 for £115.
A year later, I got my Mum a HUDL2 (2GB, 8.3" 1920x1200) for £50-odd of clubcard vouchers.
Both are still going strong & perfectly usable devices.

Today, 3 years later, we have lower spec tablets going for the same sort of money?!

Tech. stagnation in the PC market is understandable (Intel monopoly, geometric growth in development complexity & cost, under-powered consoles holding back progress), but tablets? That's still a rapidly expanding market isn't it?
tech3475 to TehJumpingJawa
1 Mar 17 1 #33
I think even the tablet market has stagnated.

I suspect the worse specs is because cheaper components are now available from the start where as before it was more trickle down.

The biggest issue I have with tablets (and even mobiles) is support, even just for security. Id rather go for a windows tablet with LTS than an android tablet which may not receive any updates.

I know it's £25 more, but this .Acer looks like a better buy.

It's a manufacturer refurb with 1 yr warranty from Argos ebay - I've had a mobile phone from them before as a refurb, it looked brand new when I got it, and although it developed a fault after 11 months, they refunded in full with no quibble, so I have no doubts about buying from them.
Just ordered to replace a 4 year-old Acer tablet which has given good service.

Interloper
1 Mar 17 3 #38
Avoid that Acer like the plague. It has very well documented sleep and battery drain issues which have never been fixed despite numerous updates.

As for this Lenovo...it's fine. It's £99, for goodness sake. The screen is okay, it's quick enough for web browsing and Netflix watching, the build quality is good and - crucially - it has 2Gb of RAM. What do people expect for this price? If it gets nicked or dropped it cost £99, so it's not the end of the world. Get it in perspective, people!
plewis00
1 Mar 17 1 #39
It is in perspective.

Lenovo made the specs worse but kept the price the same and pulled the wool over the eyes of unsuspecting buyers who assume newer is better (which it generally does). They even list it as having an APQ8009 rather than it's actual name, which is a Snapdragon 212 - even budget phones with Mediatek chipsets have more performance than this. Yes, the tablet will probably be 'ok' but that doesn't mean you should buy one without shopping around. And usually people buy branded (e.g. Lenovo) because of better support, but in this case, they don't really offer support once you've bought it.

1 Mar 17 2 #42
I hear you. But in an age where certain manufacturers (e.g. Apple, Microsoft) are putting prices up by 20-25%, it's a miracle that anyone can even buy a 10-inch tablet with 2Gb of RAM and decent battery life. Add in a 'known' brand (for what it's worth) and a 12-month warranty that only requires popping to Argos if something is wrong and it's not really bad at all.

Is it crazy powerful? No, but neither is a Linx 1010 and that's around the same price or more with a shorter battery and an OS that arguably isn't suited to a device this size. You can shop around but I don't think there's anything brand new around the £100 mark worth bothering with right now and for an undemanding user (or just as a second tablet around the house), this is fine.
Steve1205
1 Mar 17 1 #43
It is a 2GB from Argos.
plewis00
1 Mar 17 #44
If you insist on 'brand new' and can settle for merely 'ok' then yes, it's fine, there's nothing much wrong with it but there's a lot of good stuff out there. The Linx 1010 is in a different league, having Windows means you can do real productivity stuff but that's no good if all you want is Android apps and games - horses for courses.
superfreddy
1 Mar 17 #45
Better than a Nexus 7 2013?
Interloper
2 Mar 17 #46
Exactly. The point of a lightweight OS like Android or iOS on a 10-inch (or less) tablet is ease of use, decent battery life, true touch optimisation etc. I have a Surface Pro 4 and love it, so I appreciate the power and versatility of Windows 10 on a tablet, but I wouldn't say a Linx 1010 is "in a different league". It's too compromised, touch is finicky on the smaller screen (there are too many areas of the interface that demand a mouse or trackpad) and Windows is generally too heavy for a 2Gb device beyond basic tasks. And let's not get started on the storage issues - even Windows updates can be a problem on the 32Gb eMMC.

For average users who just want to browse the Web, check email and Facebook, use Google Docs and Drive etc, this device is easy to use and perfectly capable for £99.

Just collected mine from Argos Edinburgh. Model is TB-x103f, says 2GB RAM on the box, manufacture date 15.12.2016, Android 6.0, black but seems to have a blue bezel (not opened it yet as it's a present)

I got mine today and it has a blue bezel too, even though it is called 'black' on the box. Seems like a bargain to me, but then I have low expectations of tech kit that's not Apple (for which read well made and mad expensive)...it has a good heft, the screen is fine, speakers not as bad as I'd expected....all for under a hundred pund....

I just came back from Argos. I ordered the tablet several days ago despite the mixed reviews and went to pick it up today. I asked them if I can return it after trying it if the performance is not what I am expecting and they said I can't do that - I can only return it only if it is still fully sealed. So I then went to John Lewis, talked to some people there, decided not to risk it with this tablet and went back to Argos for a refund. I have to say it was a huge hassle to return an unopened item that I collected literally 30 mins earlier because I ordered it from Argos Ebay store and paid with Paypal. Fingers crossed my refund appears on my account soon.

I just picked up one of these Tab 3 2Gb(TB-X103F) to possibly replace a much older Lenovo 10" 1Gb (A7600-F) tablet which I got for about £80 at the time. Having tested with Quadrant Standard, and Antutu this is looking pretty bad in comparison. I mean, really bad.
Any suggestions on a different benchmark app maybe as I know there is a lot of debate around them and how accurate they can be?
tuckeral
8 Mar 17 #68
I'd be wary buying that cover - as the seller has responded to a query stating explicitly that it doesn't fit this model (TB-X103F). (3rd question down, 4th answer)
I have an A10-70 and the camera is at a different position to this Tab 3 so (if camera is important to you) then any case listing that suggests its suitable for the A10-70 will not be fully compatible with this version of Tab 3 10 (unless it's got multiple cut-outs for possible camera positions).

I've just bought one of these tablets and am looking for a suitable case (a task harder than it should be!). If anybody has got/found one - ideally a protective one suitable for kids - please let me know ASAP.
(Ideally something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N5OKB8G )

Are these Tab 3's better or worse than the Tab 2's (A10-30 which is £20 more on the Argos site)? The Argos site is so inaccurate with the specs and I can't easily find them elsewhere.

My kids have the Tab 2 models and they're really pretty good, so if the Tab 3 is comparable, it's a good deal.

I not someone above says it has Android 6, so it has to be a quite recent model?
