I wouldn't put McAfee or Norton on my worst enemies laptop, let alone my own.

Seem terrible to me. Huge pixel (not even Full HD), slow due to lack of an SSD, and with McAfee slowing it down further. An i5 CPU is nice, but it does not even specify the generation (I guess Broadwell?). DDR3 RAM is already obsolete, and especially for a laptop not recommended. Seems like they are trying to get rid of old stock.
I would avoid it like the plague. There are much better offers out there.
Thanks. the 25% was in reference to Capacity, not speed (256GB vs 1000GB). But yes, clarly teh speed advantage and in all honesty I think we might struggle to use even 100GB.

If only it were that easy. Malware filters reach deep into windows and you may lose Internet upon uninstall. Only solution is to reformat.

For a non techie, why do some people choose SSD over a normal HDD?
I believe there's a speed advantage but it's a big trade off for say 25% of the capacity of similar priced 1TB.

There's really no comparison. My laptop boots in under 6 seconds now, loads and processes everything about 100% faster. SSD all the way. :P

Because the speed advantage is huge. They run silently as well, so my laptop doesn't make a sound.
Also, I don't think storage is the issue it was five years ago. I used to need lots of storage space for music, films and other media. Between Spotify/Netflix/cloud storage, they've eliminated the need for big storage capacity for most people now, me included.

Speed my friend. SSD's are about speed, not capacity. What do you really need to store on your computer that cant be stored on an external drive?
25% is an understatement. The speed is very noticable on boot time and opening applications. Take a look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j84eEjP-RL4

I find the av comparatives website handy to look at once a year before choosing which free AV i will install. The current chart is here https://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php

That deal was just a few days before brexit then the £ tanked after the vote so things have got more expensive. It was a seriously good deal that's for sure, but then comparing a 13inch screen to 15inch isnt comparing like for like. It is a bit silly reminiscing about a deal that is from 9 months ago when we are looking for a bargain today.
Trying to find a laptop that's a bargain right now isn't easy there simply haven't been any really good deals in recent months.

Yes that site is like anything just an opinion, for example their top rated AV is Qihoo 360, you will get adverts popup from the system tray by the clock regularly and all the AV engines it contains aren't enabled by default. Personally I'd pick Avast if you want a free AV that's OK.
It should be remembered and I'm serious about this, if you're stupid then it doesn't matter what AV protection you have you probably will end up getting a virus.

For the antivirus and internet security i use Kaspersky. You can buy it in Amazon for £10, excellent support and not much cpu intensive. For notebooks and all McAfee eats lot of CPU.

Lenovo laptop keyboards are horrid to use, they've shortened the right hand shift key and squished the arrow keys in so that every time I try to use the RHShift I end up typing on the line above.

Don't. Thinkpads are for business users who just need some businessy looking laptop. I'd rather have a HP or something much better built. It feels like a 2000 era laptop rather than a modern day ultra book.

No need to be obnoxious. Since your comment followed immediately after one saying that 1366x768 "looks terrible" I looked up the screen resolution. Since it wasn't listed prominently I thought I'd post the info to save other people thinking it was a better screen. No, I wasn't "having a laugh", thank you.

Found this for ~£360 at various etailers...
Although it's it's only got 4GB RAM (DDR4 too), I'm guessing an extra £40 should get you another 4GB stick.
The hook? It's a 7th Gen i5 processor. I've not seen any 7th Gen iX processors sub £400 http://www.ebuyer.com/766653-acer-extensa-2540-laptop-nx-efgek-002

I think this from ebuyer is better spec for an under £400 laptop. Better cpu and 256mb ssd.
Good find. I got max budget of £350 though. I know eBuyer got an ex-display one for £378.

A lot of the complaints are from tight ass Sun readers that lack the wit to buy the laptop some extra memory. Yes it might say 8GB, but you deduct a couple of GB for graphics and a couple of GB for other purposes, that leaves 4GB for windows to function in which is not very much

8gb ram really too little? I got 4gb on my yoga and i had a hundered different windows open of multiple different apps and runs fine. I3 processor as well.
