Popular myth, probably due to
a) confusion with Carbon dioxide which does actually sink to the floor
b) pets die first, but only because the lethal dose is smaller, not because they are on the floor.
CO has a similar density to air and tends to mix evenly. See this study by the HSE.
They actually found that the most effective position for a CO alarm was almost always at the ceiling.

Got excited when I saw 'kidde smoke' as my daughter needs a birthday present and i thought i could get her some cheap fags. Sadly it's just a smoke detector. Sad.

I ordered it 2 days ago and it's just been delivered. I don't think its bad for the price delivered in all honesty

I didn't say anything about CO detectors either if you read it again.
And I did read it and he said
So I don't see any relevance in your reply.

I know. I was joking. It's just the way they worded it

Why does it tell you danger has been detected after the event ? What good is that if you've died of carbon monoxide poisoning or your house has burned down?

You might have had a small Carbon monoxide leak whilst you where out of the house that the detector picks up. When you return the leak may have gone (i.e. heating switched off so the leak stops or becomes too small to detect) but the alert is still there to let you know what has happened in the day.
I take your point on the fire alarm warning though

Do you really want to die with the nagging question of "why me" left unanswered?

That's what sneakybifta said if you read it again. Noone said they do CO detectors for free

But they won't do it for free in my area. Only the "vulnerable" and low income people qualify.
"Fire brigade fit one for free" always comes up on smoke detector deals and it's just not true for everyone.

Get separate smoke and carbon monoxide detectors if you can.
Smoke rises. Carbon monoxide sinks.
A slow CO leak will fill the room from the floor up, but you need your smoke alarm high up.
If you must beat the price, get a cool CO alarm like this with a digital display showing the actual CO level, and get the fire brigade to come out and fit you with smoke alarms for free.
