Thanks ordered. my last one kept beeping and giving me headaches.
That's a good price for a combined detector, but I'm wary of them. Not just that if one box fails, you've lost smoke and CO detection; but also that a smoke detector needs to be mounted high up to sense products of combustion carried up by hot gases, and a CO detector needs to be fitted low since carbon monoxide is denser than air and, more or less, fills up the room from the floor upwards (which is why a bedside one should be fitted at the height your head is at when you're sleeping).
Edit: but according to this comment by WaftyCranker, it appears I have been misled by whatever leaflet it was that told me that CO is denser than air and I should mount the bedroom one at head height. So you may choose to disregard the second part of that last sentence above. Thanks for the correction, WC.

I have one of these which is now 3 years old. The instruction on mine says replace 10 years after installation. It is probably the same with a new one too, but I can't be sure.
(I paid £4 or £5 more for mine so I think this is a good price.) Heat Added

You had me worried there as my monoxide detector is on the ceiling but it would appear that carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air.

However, carbon monoxide is only very slightly lighter than air at the same temperature and pressure so the normal rules of diffusion and convection will apply: it will mix with it, so the detector should be placed where there is a good circulation of internal air. Then the height shouldn't matter.

Aldi one is far better as it has voice alarm, was on tv the other day that kids sleep through normal alarms
I have a wood burning stove, so one in each bedroom upstairs with a chimney breast, one in the fire room, one in the kitchen and one in the boiler room.
I have received warning from a gas grill (brand new oven) and from a faulty boiler (2 years old sealed combi). So don't think you are safe as your appliances are new.
To name and shame, the grill was in an Cannon Professional oven, and the boiler was a Vaillant. So not cheap no name stuff.

Don't forget recent news that 80% of children sleep straight through smoke alarms. Recent UK research showed that by lowering the sound frequency and adding a human voice to the alarm, most kids wake up. Expect to see a new generation of alarms within a year or 2, especially ones aimed at kids bedrooms.

I bought one of these last week after our old CO alarm went off at 4AM. I was sure it was a false alarm as the only fuel burning appliance we have is a 3 year old combi boiler that was serviced shortly after Xmas and I've scheduled it to turn off between 11pm & 5am. I've put it down to an increase in deodorant usage and the other halfs dry shampoo affectnig the sensor.
Also bought one of these as well, just in case: http://www.homebargains.co.uk/products/12231-status-carbon-monoxide-alarm.aspx
Has pretty much the same features as the Kidde but for £12 and only 7yr life span (from date of installation, not manufacture date like the Kidde).

I personally would NOT buy this alarm, i think it's a lot better to get one with a sealed battery for a long period such as the FireAngel CO-9X as when the battery has died, you buy a new one.
With this i think, unless i have it wrong - it uses normal batteries and you have the risk that you keep it longer than the sensor is working.
It's about the same price to get one with a sealed battery for 7 years..
Plus when you add the cost of the batteries it most likely cheaper :/ (depending on how long the batteries last and it looks better)
