The chances that most of us will be within distance of your local Chinese place are probably quite low compared to an M&S food hall.

This is as dear as buying a takeaway or going to a Chinese café!
Close to where I live is a café full of Chinese people the meal they do is Soup, main course and boiled rice, plus a drink for £6.50 with table service, far better than any pre prepared meal.
To me this is poor value compared.

Yeah takeaways near me are 5.70+ for the main and 1.90 for boiled rice starting prices so multiply by 2 people..... A takeaway usually costs 20-30 quid for 2 people with starter mains and side

Close to me there's a Chinese supermarket where I could buy all the ingredients and cook these meals from scratch myself for much less than £10 but comparing that with a M&S deal is as logical as comparing a banana with a parachute.

Very similar to round here.
A sit down meal in a Chinese restaurant for £6.50 (inc drink and table service) sounds highly unlikely.

I love Chinese food but I unfortunately I find the quality of Chinese takeaways very hit and miss.
Also when the food hygiene scores are released a lot of Chinese takeaways score very poorly- sometimes even a zero rating (how are they not instantly shut down for that??)
So although an M&S Chinese meal wont be as authentic and tasty as a proper Chinese, it is probably going to be of a higher quality.

The one local to me unfortunately has a low "scores on the doors" which tends to be off putting and the better ones, in terms of hygiene ratings at least, are a fair distance away - so for me M&S it is!

I have found their take away deal to be good value. Don't buy rice as a side but buy it separate and you get better value for money

At least you can be sure that the pre-packed meat is definitely what it says it is on the label and that the standard of hygiene in the Marks and Spencer food processing plant is second to none.
Can you get this @ MandS food stores at BP garages?

spare a thought for your local Chinese takeaway yes they are more expensive but supporting them helps a family. Whereas Marks and Spencer is a coperate beast. heat either way coz marks and sparks is delicious.

Our local chinese is across the river channel, so my partner and I had to board a ferry to get crispy duck and sweet and sour chicken balls, £300 in total so this is a bargain.
