The Imation LINK Power Drive lets you move and store data to free up storage space on your iPhone or iPod touch. The drive also lets you restore battery life so you will stay connected longer and be able to backup photos, videos and files wherever you go.
get the firmware update for later iOS versions, imation seems to have disappeared to grab the file while you can:
Works a treat after updating - open the zip and run the file inside it as administrator (copy the file onto your desktop, right click, run as admin)

You could but most Android devices come with a memory card slot so no need. Unlike the iPhone which doesn't.

It stores photos or videos (and nothing else) taken by your iPhone/iPad, so far so good.
What's the security like in case you've taken pics of private documents on your iPhone and they get included in an auto backup to this storage device?

So just got mine - couple of issues; imation has been shut down and the firmware doesn't support current iOS versions!
However, you can download v5.0 from the web (there's a youtube vid showing where - sorry not got the link handy at the moment)
Update the firmware (make sure you run in admin mode). It then works fine with my iOS 10 iPhone SE and acts as a flash drive connected to a PC, so actually it *might* well work fine for VLC playback (I'm assuming that was meant as on a non-iOS device).
